  • A slightly longer and more in-depth walkaround this time, of two Case IH AFS-Connect Steiger construction tractors ready to be delivered to their respective jobsites. The first one is a 540 HP Quadtrac equipped with the CVXDrive constantly variable transmission, AFS-Pro 1200 monitor, and 30" tracks. The second one is a brand new 500 HP wheeled model with the CVXDrive transmission, AFS-Pro 1200 monitor, dual 710/70R42 tires, and hooked to a brand new K-Tec 1228 scraper pan. These tractors are powered by the FPT/Iveco "Cursor 13" 12.9L six-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine which is capable of producing nearly 1850 ft-lbs of torque. The Steiger tractors, especially Quadtrac models, have become a popular choice for construction outfits looking to upgrade from their old self-propelled twin-engine scraper pans, as the Steigers have proven more versatile and easier on fuel while being able to produce more pulling power (and with tracks, provide much better traction) compared to the old scraper units. Both of these tractors are ready to provide many years (and tens of thousands of hours) of service on construction sites in the area.

I drove that tractor for the last 5 weeks for rice spring work in northern California. I've never driven a tractor before, and I found it to be a breeze. Very user-friendly.

That's quite the machine for a first-timer to run! The cabs are definitely very ergonomic and easy to figure out. I didn't run these Steigers regularly (or for farm work) but it was always weird controlling a 600+ HP machine with just the arm console.

@MichaelTJD60 I believe what really helped me was not knowing any better. To me, it was just what everyone was working with. If I had started on something smaller, I'm sure it would have been a leap getting into something that big.

Those things are massive. Don't see many that size around me

Probably not too many of them being used on the hills out your way.

Hey Michael can you give me your sources for tractor enthusiasts preferably for the GE Elec trak lawn and garden tractors if possible.😁

MyTractorForum and GTTalk are great forums to join. I've been more active on the JD and Cub Cadet forums in recent years so I can't really recommend any forums specifically for the Electrak, but I think the two sites I mentioned may have good information on them.

The wheeled unit will run you just over $500,000. The tracked one $650,000. Keep in mind both of those are equipped with the CVT transmission and construction specs - the ag versions with powershift transmissions will be a little less.

Sounds like the points cover was removed? The points being out of adjustment would be a likely cause for the sputtering, sounds like the previous owner had the points cover off to adjust them and never put it back on. The points when cleaned and gapped will produce a small spark.

All of my vehicle walkaround and tour videos are done this way. I'm much more steady with my camera movements now than in my old videos from 8-10 years ago...not to mention the stabilization feature built into our phone cameras work much better now than they used to.
