  • Edward Elgar's Salut d'amour ("Greeting of Love" or "Liebesgruß" in German), Op. 12, is a short piece originally composed for violin and piano but also arranged for cello and piano in the first edition. Elgar completed this piece in July 1888 and when he returned to London from vacation, he gave it to his beloved girlfriend Caroline Alice Roberts as an engagement present. The dedication "à Carice" is a combination of his wife's name Caroline and Alice, and later also the name of their daughter.
This recording was performed live by Fermín Villanueva, cello, and Gerlint Böttcher, piano, at Aschersleben Town Hall on June 20, 2024.
