Absolutely have another go! (Sorry Mark & Sam - It isn’t that I want to see you having a hard time, I am simply living vicariously through your efforts while working to overcome Achilles tendonopathy.)

70 k is very good, it's not necessary to go again, mountains are extremely hard, they are a whole different game. I think you guys did a great job 💥💪🏻

Thank you. Genuinely one of the most amazing things I have ever done. The route it stunning, despite being a bit scary at times. I really want to experience it all, and finish it 😁

This is a great video. 👍 A few jokes aside, I love the attitude presented. You guys took on an incredibly hard challenge, and more often than not you can't do that in a single try and expect success. But the challenge doesn't stop just because it didn't work out the first time. Good luck and great preparation for next time!

I've basically done one fourth of what you have attempted in my Austrian alps here last year. 30k and 2350m elevation. I did it in around 10,5 hours and I started hating it basically 2 hours in because I realised I was not prepared well enough to enjoy this. But I also will try it again and will really enjoy it while hopefully knocking an hour or 2 off my time. Can't wait for the video once you've completed this challenge!

I know this may sound odd, but this is probably one of the best videos you’ve released, for many reasons. Thank you.

There are many, many, MANY examples of people at all levels of hikes, climbs, walks, adventures, etc where they decided to push on and it ended very badly. Sometimes the smartest decision is to stop. At least then you can review the many decisions made before and during the event and prepare for another go at said adventure in a more positive, balanced, prepared and equipped way. Congratulations and I will certainly look forward to hearing about your next attempt. PS, I am 16 operations, 15 years into my rehab, never able to repeat anything close to what I used to do. Resetting the goals and challenges is a whole different challenge in and of itself. :D

Really helpful video. It makes me feel better about bailing yesterday on my recce ride for a personal 250km charity bike ride after just shy of 180km. My mistakes were inadequate route planning and kit problems. Lessons learned.

Great job guys, regardless of the result. Loving the addition of James to the team, sure he can bring a lot of (recent) race experience to the channel and a fresh view on common topics.
Good honest discussion in this video, keep up the good work!

A little harsh, Jason... 🤣🤣🤣 This challenge is so tough. I'd like to see Mark and Sam give it another whirl, but only if they can have time and opportunity to prepare thoroughly.

Get yourselves booked on The OMM. A great test/practice of a lot of those skills (mountainous terrain, route choice, kit choice etc). Also a great benchmark for mandatory kit lists that James mentioned.

Totally can relate to the emotional damage these navigation errors can cause :D Once did a ride home from friends who live about 65km away in the winter on a bad bike with luggage dragging me down. Took me a little less than 3hours to get to them but took 1 or 2 wrong turns on the way home and had to ride over muddy wood roads in the middle of nowhere. Took me over 5 hours for a bit over 80 km while the sun went down. Never in my life have i felt so destroyed and i have done a 24h benefit run :D

Awesome video! I'm training for the Swextri in August which is essentially 1/4 of this (26.2 mi with 2300m elevation gain). What are the biggest mental tips you can provide for getting over the hump when the pain sets in? What would you do differently preparing and executing next time? My longest run will be about 17-18 miles beforehand, think that is sufficient preparation?

I am preparing for l'échappée Belle in France, and I do 50-70 km runs about weekly. Perhaps the mentality is different when its 105k, but giving up before 70k I don't really get unless Theres an Accident😅

Rookie errors by experienced athletes. Underestimating the challenge of an endurance event like this can, as demonstrated, result in failure at least and potentially worse. Fundamentally the issue was a significant lack of training. And perhaps an element of complacency with regards to capabilities on the day.
