As someone who has always been overprepared when purchasing a new vehicle, it's surprising to me that most people don't do their homework with such a large purchase.
We live in an instant gratification society, where many want to be seen by others as being well off. Do you need it or do you want to be seen by others would solve a lot of problems, if people asked themselves that question.

@@elche1976 there's a reason poor people have cars that make them "appear rich" old bmws, Mercedes, etc. Yet they can not afford the payment or the maintenance.
I remember used Nissan Leafs were selling for $9000.00 a few years ago because no one wants them. I will just stick with my 2012 Civic. Getting 40 mpg and it is paid off. One good rule is to buy Toyota or Honda. Always have good resale value.
Great advice! People should be doing much more research before buying. Especially when prices are insanely high. It’s shocking that a lot of people don’t know features/options and value of the car they are buying. The bigger mistake is buying more car then needed such as buying an SUV for just a commute to work alone. Also, how to handle dealerships/salespeople ignoring informed shoppers? I’ve gotten ignored for asking specific questions about a car’s pricing and financing. Are we supposed to play the game along?
The average person who makes $50,000 should not be buying a new car that costs $50,000. They probably should not be buying a new car. They certainly should not be buying a new car every 3-5 years, like they do.
I would replace one of yours (probably #5) with this: Have a good idea of Maintenance (Tires, Oil Changes etc.) AND Insurance Costs. Most people don't even think about that. If you have a $900/mo car payment and can't afford to do proper Insurance and Maintenance on the Vehicle, you will be in deep trouble before you know it, especially if you buy a car that Looks nice but is a Maintenance Nightmare or has High Insurance. For example, I am looking to buy a new vehicle (2023) same model as what I currently have (2008). I just purchased new tires for my 2008 Vehicle. While in the store I asked them how much tires would cost for the 2023 Model. They guy quoted me a price and it was only $40 more on a set. He told me - "Wow, you're pretty smart. No one ever asks us that". Maybe I'm just "CHEAP".
Maybe I missed this if you said something about it (listening while working), but what is your feeling about being pressured by the finance person to buy extended warranties and maintenance plans? I don't see the need for it on new vehicles, especially those with legendary reliability like Lexus. I've always done my homework on cars, credit and financing after going through the process the first time. I'm always pre-approved and know exactly what I can spend and have a very good idea what my trade is worth and how much their car is worth if buying a used one. Not that difficult to do these days, but then again, I've always been a car guy since before I could legally drive.

Seeing as Camaros are discontinued in the future and manuals are becoming more rare I’d say that your car will be very valuable as the years go on
