Lego Racers 2 very quickly stood out to me as a game in which you take part in street races full of destruction of property, then you get in a taxi and drive recklessly. Also, the 1st and 3rd bosses give you special car parts when you defeat them. The second one? He throws a tantrum and storms off. Then your mechanic helps you steal the shield generator from the boss' vehicle. You and your mechanic promise themselves that they'll give the shield generator back after you're done with the racing tournament, but you never do.

Inklings can go in water but can't be fully submerged. The drink water based things like coffee and smoothies. The director of the game (I think) explained that Inklings and octolings evolved to be on land but in order to do so they have to sacrifice thicc skin for thinner skin. That and what @Gady Gady GSSG said about having a more inky structure which is unstable to water.

For the splatoon part in the vidio. The humans died because the earth heated up to much that the north and southpole melted and the water rised. The co2 that the humans had produced with the factorys mixed with the water and made it lethal to the see-animals. And the radiation from old toxic waste has caused the sea creatures evolution. They evolved to escape the deadly waters. Thats why you cant touch water in the game too. Its way to toxic for them
Even better when you reconsider the fosil found in that sunken scroll, not only is that human dead, but was most certainly playing the very game of Splatoon, as the procontroller with the wii mote straped to it will tell you. So yes not only did all of that happen, but it took place on a world that actually had Splatoon in it. Good night everybody!

I know I'm like a year late but Kingdom Hearts definitely fits this list. Majority of the franchise takes place after the great keyblade War which saw thousands of children dying and the entire world was split into multiple different worlds. You may also notice that the populations of every world in the early games are scarce.
Legend of Zelda: wind waker. It’s cutesy art style makes you forget that the opening cinematic says that the hero of time never returned to hyrule to save it from ganon so the gods just flooded everything. It said they were told to get to safety but this hyrule is vastly underpopulated. The zora, instead of living in the water like you’d expect fish people to do, decided to evolve into birds and reside in death mountain. What that says about the mysterious disappearance of the Gorons is disturbing.
It's been pointed out that other official source material for Mario states that only the question mark blocks are the ones that are transformed citizens, not the bricks themselves. When Mario hits them they are released from the spell and as thanks give him a reward in the form of coins and powerups.
Don't forget that one Frozen Planet on Kirby 64 that is shown to resemble Earth, and also take into consideration the terrifying final bosses of many of the Kirby games, that are more nightmare fuel than the Nightmare man himself from the original. I'm talking about Miracle Matter, Zero, Zero2, Void Termina, and all those guys.

Every single Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game. All of them. The Pokémon world has encountered a whopping FIVE near apocalypses, all of which would have resulted in virtually no life remaining, and one of which would have resulted in the entire planet being destroyed. Oh, and every single ending is bittersweet as hell.
Well, the one in the Gates to Infinity is much sweeter (if you don't refuse to return to the PMD world and, therefore, don't trigger the game over). Your protagonist now can jump between two worlds at will, spending time with family and friends on both sides!
While i mostly agree, there are a few things i find off about your statement. Not every PMD "Apocalypse" would result in a lifeless planet. In the PMD Explorers games (Time/Darkness/Sky), at one point in the story, you get to visit the dark future (or rather are taken there by force) and get to see what happens when the planet is paralyzed. Sure its a dark future ruled over by a ruthless, insane version of Dialga, but Pokemon still live in that dark future, the planet still has life. If the planets paralysis had killed off all life, you and your partner never would've been able to go back in time and prevent the planets paralysis from happening in the first place. I've never played either of the rescue team games, and i never finished gates to infinity, so i don't know much about the possible "bad endings" for those two games, but i doubt they could be as bad as the possible bad endings of the Explorers games and super mystery dungeon. Other than that, i agree with everything else. Also, Five? I'm pretty sure there have only been Four near apocalypses in the pmd verse. As there have only been four generations of PMD at this point. Red/Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, Gates to Infinity, and Super Mystery Dungeon.

And the murderous A.I. that has imprisoned, brainwashed, and blended over 10,007 test subjects and more. And who makes the blended test-subject remains into a primordial ooze that it plans to destroy the world with, AND who succeeds if you die or don't finish the final fight within the time limit. And how Captain Cuttlefish and DJ Octavio were probably friends before the Great Turf War. The Inkling talking with an Octoling in one of the sunken scrolls has Captain Cuttlefish's hat, badges and Bambozler/cane, and the Octoling he is talking with is wearing DJ Octavio's hat/helmet and is holding a wasabi plant.

Poor? Salmonids are basically feral and salmons eat squids and octopi in wild life, guess what those things want to do to Inklings? I'm more worried that Grizz could start making salmonids under his control, which kind of sound cool for a DLC like octo Expansion.

Yup. Shiver Star from Kirby and the Crystal Shards. Though, as stated previously, that's only scratching the surface. I'll always take a frozen planet populated by robots over ripping out a boss's eye, in a literal bloody storm, with a weapon that supposedly uses the power of love any day.
I do love that that happens in the games where you can pet them. You pet a Pikachu's cheeks, you get shocked... and the Pikachu has an amazing troll grin the whole time.

NPC Indeed. Gyrados goes on rampages that leave miles of devestation; in a world were more than half the population has pokemon. Hydregon is potentially worse, as it also rampages... and is most likely going to be at a higher level. And then there are the legendaries. Shaymin has destroyed entire forests with seed flare. It's one of the weakest, lore-wise, as this group also includes things that erase the memories of anyone who looks it in the eye, trap everyone nearby in endless nightmares, control time and space, are the avatar of death, and created the universe. And yes, you can catch all of them.
Probably more like Reign of Fire. The entire world feared him as his dragons turned everything into ash and consumed them. In desperation, the humans launched all their nukes, but this only gave the dragons more to eat. Red, somehow having survived the nuclear holocaust, has returned to claim the lands the remaining few humans cling to. Humans hide underground, eating what few rodents and insects still exist. Thanks for the advice! I went to the Steam page and saw that it had a warning and thought, "Hmm...maybe nooooot...." I do hear good things about it though. I think there might be a sequel coming out (I saw a Game Theory about it) that might be dark from the get-go and I might give that one a try. Maybe.
My boyfriend and I played it (it was like a free trial thing) and we got to finish two maybe three endings but after that the trial ran out. We did have a few Theories based on the archive articles, that we were the last human remaining and it was a post-apocalyptic world ruled by birds etc. But we never did find out the ending... Well until now I did, I didn't even notice it was on the spoilers list but I'm kinda sad that I watched the whole thing :/
What about Grey Goo from Tasty Planet? It was supposed to be a prototype bathroom cleaner, but the more it eats, the more it grows! Those adorable eyes look through your soul before it gobbles you up.
General rule of thumb I've found with Nintendo games in particular: the more cutesy it seems, the darker it really is. Kirby and Earthbound are both full of existential nightmares from the outer veils invading cutesy, colorful worlds; Pokemon's Pokedex entries reveal the creatures are a lot more dangerous than you'd think; Splatoon, Pikmin, and Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker take place in post-apocalyptic landscapes; even the Mario series dives into existential dilemmas and horror surprisingly often.
Actually here's a slight correction on the slime rancher part they are generally happy except when not fed they don't need food only want it because if you don't feed them they don't die and finally yes the plorts are used for war and such but they are also used for clean energy sources

I once saw the cutest little thing when we were on vacation in Canada to visit my aunt. Of course, me being only 7 years old at the time, I immediately ran up to it and started petting and cuddling it. My parents didn't really notice, until they heard me scream. Turns out the cute little thing was actually a small bear, which nearly bit two of my fingers off when my hand came too close to its snout. Six broken bones and years later (I'm 20 now), one joint is still a bit crooked.
Ah yes, the game about animal capture, breeding, incest, and beating to death with a magic shovel. The review of this game on X-Play back in the day was even darker than usual. I could swear I remember the camera zooming in for a closeup on a horse pinata's tear-filled eye just before it exploded into candy.

Hollow Knight. I know it's obviously an evil nightmaric dystopia, but please notice that the art style is cute. Also, notice how they use nails, lamposts and even homes, all the same ways humans did, yet not a single human being exists in the game. Interesting.

Well, when you consider the environment slimes naturally live in, the largos make more sense. They can eat more kinds of food, and gain more abilities making survival easier, and plorts may not be... you know. It could be energy stored for the transformations, specifically.
Also, tarrs handle populations of slimes, since it can get really crazy without them. They go away once they haven't eaten for long enough, which means there aren't enough slimes.

Also, any respectable slime rancher who KNOWS what they are doing would NEVER allow an outbreak of Tarrs to occur on the main ranch. (by main ranch, i'm referring to the areas where you can build slime kennels and stuff like that)
Fine with slimerancher points above except for the following. One, Different *species* (yes, species) of slimes desire and seek out other types of plorts to consume naturally. So it's part of their established ecosystem. And 2, Yes, the plorts are valuable. Why else would you ranch them in the first place? Having the byproduct of your creature be more valuable than the creature itself? Yeah, seems like it could be better than say *the creature's dead body being more valuable than it being alive.* Like a cow.
Mother 3 deserves an honorable mention, I feel. Adorable pixel art and a soundtrack with tunes like "Bein' Friends" and "I Believe In You" is in stark contrast to the games storyline and themes. Your brother gets turned into a killer cyborg by the abused sociopathic child from Mother 2 that has preserved himself in a mechanical cradle for the last thousand years.
How can you show Pikachu and then forget to mention Pokemon. The Pokemon main series games are set after a "Great War" as stated by Lt. Surge from Red and Blue and it also explains why there are so few adult males. Also the "Origin Story" of pokemon isnt much better either. An old sad guy killing hundreds of pokemon to revive his favorite pokemon. Pokemon is dark yall

What is it with Nintendo and humans being wiped out/hated? In AC, there's only one human, in Splatoon, humans are extinct, in Pikmin, humans are extinct, in Pokemon, humans treat the little creatures like slaves, and in Kid Icarus, Viridi literally throws shade at the human race.
Doki Doki Literature Club? Even though there was a brief warning at the beginning, nothing prepared me for everything that happened after the first two hours. It caused me an existential crisis and lead me to debate the fickleness of life, the course it is taking and the content of my daily routines. 5/5, would let a dating sim mess with my mind again.
DDLC is deceptively cute, but it's horror is at the forefront. With these games (excluding the dating birds one), you can play the whole game and not realize the terrible reality within.

I love Harvest Moon, too (admittedly only played AWL, IoH, and ToTT) ...but there’s some pretty dark and/or shady stuff already existing in-game. That...and all my friends and I have a pretty wry, morbid sense of humor. So when we weren’t snarking at plotholes and implications, we intentionally RP’d much darker settings during recess (or in fanfics). And the other games I didn’t get the chance to play...aren’t much better. Still great for DarkHumorFodder and enjoyable gameplay, though

Ok I wanted to spread the news about this game I love, but it is not popular at all. And I think it should be. There’s this game I love called dreaming Mary. You play as a young girl named Mary in a dream, of course. A bit of the same premise as Yume Nikki, but it’s so different. I don’t wanna spoil the game, but let’s just say the pink and bubbly dream isn’t as nice as it looks.

They're slimes. I'm surprised they have any orifices at all. They probably just excrete waste from whatever surface they please. So maybe not feces in the strictest sense, but it's still waste.
I have watched three videos from this channel while doing some chores at the house and I'm happy to see them as now I'm about to subscribe. A couple of other games I'd like to mention are Kirby 64 because of shiver plant looking a lot like a frozen Earth with machines ruling. And a much less known N64 game that actually had a pretty hilarious commercial when it came out that's made by Ubisoft and you could tell by how the character looks like in comparison to Rayman, a game called tonic trouble.

Pikmin 2 was my first pikmin game and it seemed obvious to me that it was Earth. There are many many treasures that are known brands... like the very first treasure, a Duracell battery. I just assumed that the humans were still there, we just don’t see them because we’re so tiny.

The water is to acidic for them to survive and the fact that they can transform made their skin to thin to actually survive it

I know I'm like a year late but Kingdom Hearts definitely fits this list. Majority of the franchise takes place after the great keyblade War which saw thousands of children dying and the entire world was split into multiple different worlds.

Legend of Zelda: wind waker. It’s cutesy art style makes you forget that the opening cinematic says that the hero of time never returned to hyrule to save it from ganon so the gods just flooded everything. It said they were told to get to safety but this hyrule is vastly underpopulated. The zora, instead of living in the water like you’d expect fish people to do, decided to evolve into birds and reside in death mountain. What that says about the mysterious disappearance of the Gorons is disturbing.
I mean, Gorons can't swim, so they probably helped raising the tide, not to mention the game had one of the most violent endings of a Zelda game.

Every single Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game. All of them. The Pokémon world has encountered a whopping FIVE near apocalypses, all of which would have resulted in virtually no life remaining, and one of which would have resulted in the entire planet being destroyed. Oh, and every single ending is bittersweet as hell.
Well, the one in the Gates to Infinity is much sweeter (if you don't refuse to return to the PMD world and, therefore, don't trigger the game over). Your protagonist now can jump between two worlds at will, spending time with family and friends on both sides!

While i mostly agree, there are a few things i find off about your statement. Not every PMD "Apocalypse" would result in a lifeless planet. In the PMD Explorers games (Time/Darkness/Sky), at one point in the story, you
get to visit the dark future (or rather are taken there by force) and get to see what happens when the planet is paralyzed. Sure its a dark future ruled over by a ruthless, insane version of Dialga, but Pokemon still live in that dark future, the planet still has life. If the planets paralysis had killed off all life, you and your partner never would've
been able to go back in time and prevent the planets paralysis from happening in the first place.
I've never played either of the rescue team games, and i never finished gates to infinity, so i don't know much
about the possible "bad endings" for those two games, but i doubt they could be as bad as the possible bad
endings of the Explorers games and super mystery dungeon. Other than that, i agree with everything else.
Also, Five? I'm pretty sure there have only been Four near apocalypses in the pmd verse. As there have only been four generations of PMD at this point. Red/Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, Gates to Infinity,

And who makes the blended test-subject remains into a primordial ooze that it plans to destroy the world with, AND who succeeds if you die or don't finish the final fight within the time limit.
And how Captain Cuttlefish and DJ Octavio were probably friends before the Great Turf War. The Inkling talking with an Octoling in one of the sunken scrolls has Captain Cuttlefish's hat, badges and Bambozler/cane, and the Octoling he is talking with is wearing DJ Octavio's hat/helmet and is holding a wasabi plant.

Hydregon is potentially worse, as it also rampages... and is most likely going to be at a higher level. And then there are the legendaries. Shaymin has destroyed entire forests with seed flare. It's one of the weakest, lore-wise, as this group also includes things that erase the memories of anyone who looks it in the eye, trap everyone nearby in endless nightmares, control time and space, are the avatar of death, and created the universe. And yes, you can catch all of them.

My boyfriend and I played it (it was like a free trial thing) and we got to finish two maybe three endings but after that the trial ran out. We did have a few Theories based on the archive articles, that we were the last human remaining and it was a post-apocalyptic world ruled by birds etc. But we never did find out the ending... Well until now I did, I didn't even notice it was on the spoilers list but I'm kinda sad that I watched the whole thing :/

General rule of thumb I've found with Nintendo games in particular: the more cutesy it seems, the darker it really is.
Kirby and Earthbound are both full of existential nightmares from the outer veils invading cutesy, colorful worlds; Pokemon's Pokedex entries reveal the creatures are a lot more dangerous than you'd think; Splatoon, Pikmin, and Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker take place in post-apocalyptic landscapes; even the Mario series dives into existential dilemmas and horror surprisingly often.

Actually here's a slight correction on the slime rancher part they are generally happy except when not fed they don't need food only want it because if you don't feed them they don't die and finally yes the plorts are used for war and such but they are also used for clean energy sources

Well, when you consider the environment slimes naturally live in, the largos make more sense. They can eat more kinds of food, and gain more abilities making survival easier, and plorts may not be... you know. It could be energy stored for the transformations, specifically.
Also, tarrs handle populations of slimes, since it can get really crazy without them. They go away once they haven't eaten for long enough, which means there aren't enough slimes.

Also, any respectable slime rancher who KNOWS what they are doing would NEVER allow an outbreak of Tarrs to
occur on the main ranch. (by main ranch, i'm referring to the areas where you can build slime kennels and stuff like that)
And gordos were formed to get more food, so slimes are used to being in close proximity to each other, and they get food consistently
Fine with slimerancher points above except for the following.
One, Different *species* (yes, species) of slimes desire and seek out other types of plorts to consume naturally. So it's part of their established ecosystem.
And 2, Yes, the plorts are valuable. Why else would you ranch them in the first place? Having the byproduct of your creature be more valuable than the creature itself? Yeah, seems like it could be better than say *the creature's dead body being more valuable than it being alive.* Like a cow.

Mother 3 deserves an honorable mention, I feel. Adorable pixel art and a soundtrack with tunes like "Bein' Friends" and "I Believe In You" is in stark contrast to the games storyline and themes. Your brother gets turned into a killer cyborg by the abused sociopathic child from Mother 2 that has preserved himself in a mechanical cradle for the last thousand years.

How can you show Pikachu and then forget to mention Pokemon. The Pokemon main series games are set after a "Great War" as stated by Lt. Surge from Red and Blue and it also explains why there are so few adult males. Also the "Origin Story" of pokemon isnt much better either. What is it with Nintendo and humans being wiped out/hated? In AC, there's only one human, in Splatoon, humans are extinct, in Pikmin, humans are extinct, in Pokemon, humans treat the little creatures like slaves, and in Kid Icarus, Viridi literally throws shade at the human race.
Doki Doki Literature Club? Even though there was a brief warning at the beginning, nothing prepared me for everything that happened after the first two hours. It caused me an existential crisis and lead me to debate the fickleness of life, the course it is taking and the content of my daily routines.

DDLC is deceptively cute, but it's horror is at the forefront. With these games (excluding the dating birds one), you can play the whole game and not realize the terrible reality within.

I don't know what you're talking about but I like the Harvest Moon series. Have since the first one and I still have to try Stardew Valley at some point. That game looks awesome too.
I love Harvest Moon, too (admittedly only played AWL, IoH, and ToTT) ...but there’s some pretty dark and/or shady stuff already existing in-game. That...and all my friends and I have a pretty wry, morbid sense of humor. So when we weren’t snarking at plotholes and implications, we intentionally RP’d much darker settings during recess (or in fanfics). And the other games I didn’t get the chance to play...aren’t much better. Still great for DarkHumorFodder and enjoyable gameplay, though
lol I can agree with you there. I never paid a whole lot of attention to the plots for the games cause I always just wanted to get back to my farm but I do recall it being very odd. The damn cows and sheep are so cute, though lol

There’s this game I love called dreaming Mary. You play as a young girl named Mary in a dream, of course. A bit of the same premise as Yume Nikki, but it’s so different.
I don’t wanna spoil the game, but let’s just say the pink and bubbly dream isn’t as nice as it looks.

Slimes don't poop plorts, or are you saying that the whole slime is a big butt? Plorts can come from every part of the slime, head, back, left, right, face, and etc. Ithink they are just allocate plorts from their skin, not pooping

I have watched three videos from this channel while doing some chores at the house and I'm happy to see them as now I'm about to subscribe. A couple of other games I'd like to mention are Kirby 64 because of shiver plant looking a lot like a frozen Earth with machines ruling. And a much less known N64 game that actually had a pretty hilarious commercial when it came out that's made by Ubisoft and you could tell by how the character looks like in comparison to Rayman, a game called tonic trouble.

Pikmin 2 was my first pikmin game and it seemed obvious to me that it was Earth. There are many many treasures that are known brands... like the very first treasure, a Duracell battery. I just assumed that the humans were still there, we just don’t see them because we’re so tiny.
