Excellent tutorial. In and out in less than 10 minutes. Another channel with supposed Dell "experts" was garbage. The guy in the video removed the screws, unclipped the screen, and then literally ripped it off the mainboard without disconnecting the video cable.
Thank you, my unit now can run 10 hr + while reading online with new 41w battery. A bit heavy and thick compared with my older hp spectra x2 but HUGE performance difference. I bought my i7 16gb 5290 for less than US$380 and new battery cost $35. looks like new. The funny thing that I found is with old battery the unit run hot, but with new battery it run cool almost no heat while reading online. Only get hot when installing or watching youtube.

I can only assume that if a non genuine Dell battery is used, as in my case, the operating system does not 'see' the battery. Changing power settings in bios makes no difference.

According to the dell website, the 41 Wh battery just for 5285 2-in-1 version.. But i guess it support for 5290 2-in-1 too Th difference is the 31.5 Wh / 11.4 V VS 42 Wh / 7.6 V battery So, does 5290 2-in-1 just support 11.4 V battery?
As far as I am aware, the battery compatible with both the Dell 2-in-1 5285 and 5290 is a 3-cell 42Wh/7.6V. The 11.4V battery is not suitable for either of these devices. I have included the link to the one compatible with both models. amzn.to/3XWGUiv
If you tried the file and it didn't work, before you replace the LCD, I would recommend to reset the device and reinstall windows. The LCD's are available on ebay.
This model comes with two different battery models. I upgraded from the 34-36wh model to the 42wh as in your video and had the same issue with needing the AC to kick start the laptop. Are you sure it’s a bad batch because the voltage on the 34 and the 42 are different and is the reason I was informed

The only bad is the screen resolution is slightly lower than the surface pro 6 but everything else on the dell is better. This is a device you can upgrade apart from the Ram.
With a fresh battery on the 5285 i5 7300u 8gb how long will the battery last doing mid-end games? Maybe 4-6 hours? My battery is mega low at 9,000 Wh from 42,000 so massive difference in comparison, will the 60 watt battery be compatible
The 60Wh battery is not compatible as it has a 11.4 v instead of the 7.6v. By the way if you still have your 5285, bear in mind that the device has a 7th generation CPU. This CPU is not officially supported by windows 11. Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 in October 2025. You may want to upgrade to the 5290, which is going super cheap on ebay.
The Ram cannot be upgraded on any surface. The SSD drive on the other hand can be upgraded on the SP3 and 4, if you manage to remove the LCD without breaking it.
How do you feel for new battery? How many hours you can run on that. Recently I have battery replaced on my dell laptops but could not feel much different from used one that 1-2 hours running
That is a wider topic. The heat could the cause of various issues. An app running all the time causing over utilisation of the CPU. Or maybe the thermal paste on the cpu needs redoing or maybe the fan is clogged and needs cleaning. May do a video on it.

I had a similar issue with a replacement battery. The issue was the new battery itself. I returned it and purchase one from another seller on ebay.

@@RayVermey correct. I was informed to use the battery with the same voltage as your existing one. Otherwise, u could damage your laptop long-term.
If you leave the unit off and on charge for ten to twelve hours you will find that you can turn the laptop on without it being plugged in to the AC.

Where is the RAM located in the Dell 5285 laptop?
The RAM for the 5285 Dell 2in1 is soldered into the motherboard and cannot be upgraded.

There are a lot of cheap quality ones but the good ones will perform significantly better. Mine gives me up to 5 hours of autonomy.
Is this laptop recommended i bought it for 260 usd, but the battery wasn't good 4 h watching i think
