I am planning on building this desk but instead of a terrarium inside, a small shallow fish tank. I was thinking of putting something small and hardy like a Dwarf Crayfish in there, I think it would look great from a top view and the crayfish would also take care of mold/algae. I'm sure you would have to make sure that the entire tank fixture is even more water-tight and you would have to account for the extra weight of the water. Maybe just 5 gallons of water, or a little more than that should be good and won't add too much weight. Or maybe no live animals in there, just a planted tank, almost like a pond. What do you all think?

You've really outdone it this time, dude. Looks so friggin' awesome! Wish I had a desk like that. It's visionaries like you, Kenan, and Ants Canada that truly inspire the many like us to want to further our techniques on animal husbandry to further enrich the lives of our beloved critters. Thank you for all you do!
Whivh brings me to this- I would like some good advice, if that is alright. I've been thinking about this for a couple years, but I would like your thoughts on this project that I would like to soon undertake. My grandfather was the reason that I love working with animals, especially dogs and birds. In his honor, I want to attempt at making a bioactive flight enclosure for small finches and button quail. My measurements would be around 2 ft wide, 6 feet long, and perhaps 3 feet tall, so that each bird would occupy its own niche, the quail being on the bottom. I thought about using tubs on the bottom to obviously hold in the water, soil mixture and plants hardy and safe enough for the birds to use. I also plan on adding wheels on the bottom to move the cage out on nice sunny days. It would all be covered in wire and most importantly be cat proofed. Do you believe this to be too daring of me to attempt? I already keep Japanese quail in outdoor hutches with a run to roam grass while supervised on good days. And I've seen many great outdoor aviaries for finches. Plus, my turtles are in outdoor pens all year round.
Forgive me if this was a lot to put in, but basically would like your thoughts on a bioactive flight cage for small birds. Thanks, and keep on designing!
    -Marc

Looking good TanMan&helpful tip I like to make others/you aware of too. Confirm lid(s) are completely sealed&store your stain/paint upside down. What gradually&unavoidably begins to settle on the bottom will be on top instead. Easier to mix&continually use.

the woodwork on the other hand was painfull to watch. I get that it is made from scrap and you probably didn't have many tools but atleast you could have set the woodgrain to be in the same direction. Also some additional planing would have helped on the bottom but atleast that wont be seen.
