The most shockingly cutting edge contemporary album I've heard. No idea how to categorize it, elements of Hardcore Hip-Hop, Hyperpop and Post-Hardcore to name a few, but none of them suffice. I bet that's part of the point. In the album, labels for sexuality, legality and the human experience all come into question. So the music reflects that; what even is "genre" or "aesthetic"? I almost wanted to call it post-modern, but that feels like it's missing the point. There's a lot of struggle and fight in this album: surviving against the State, finding love, overcoming the Self. It's kinda romantic in its celebration of human anger and vitality. Will need to revisit this album again, a lot of depth to be worked out...
Ngl this is one of the best albums I've heard. It all sounds like my mind, years and years of listening to different genres mixed with reflections and existential questioning, but the song that made me fully immerse into this album was The Begging of the end, it also reminded a little of Nmesh's Dream Sequins, sounds like a deep dive into hippocampus where the sounds of our conscious mind shows up. Thanks for this. You and 100gecs are my jam :)
My brother showed this to me after Fantano reviewed it, and I was shocked by the quality, and how much I wanted more once it ended. This is the kind of music people want to hear, and producers wish they could create. Some real bangers in here, especially Brainworms. Love it.
