    Simply the best prop I have seen tv show. I remember my parents buying me the walkie talkies like you have in the 70s.

      What's so funny is back when I was a kid in the 60's, I always thought how neat it would be that in the future phones would be like the communicators on Star Trek.
      And now it's real.

    54 myself and not what you would call a trekky but I do love these replicas. The phaser and communicator are great fun and the communicator looks fantastic as a bluetooth device.

    I'm a Star Wars diehard fan too but this star trek Communicator is amazing brings back memories of my childhood watching the original star trek series late at night I'm trying to get one they are out of stock the only place is ebay but the prices are at 4 to 500 hundred and up but eventually ill obtain one .🖖🙏

      The prices have really gone up since they released them and stopped making them. Be on the lookout for a working Tricorder from the same company that made this and the TV remote phaser. $250 and will be released on a few months. Check it out! The Wand Company is making it.

    I have the phaser and the communicator. As a kid in the 70s, I had a cheap plastic communicator. They both have satisfying heft. The texture on the communicator is impressive.

This video was just what I was looking for to help me understand all the cool functions of the communicator when paired with a new IP6s that I'm still trying to figure out.Noticed that u used a 512 in the audible dial. Ima just down the road in LG!Thanks again for the great job! Live long and prosper dude!

      Ha! Great comment. I’m in the same boat, but I still had to have one! If it could only text. Actually, it can. You can activate Siri, or whatever digital assistant is on your phone, from the communicator and dictate a text message!

    Just got the wand Star trek commuicator and is beautiful. I nice and loud when phoning someone through it. Music is clear when playing music, but up full volume it does distort a little a couple of clicks then fine.
    2 grips. The buttons are so small they are almost to small for my fingers. The off/on button gets a bit finicky. I see they no longet have the warning message about the off/on button. Overall very nice but the buttons, may not last especally the off on button. Seems there is a certain point on that button that there is a postive off on click feel. But works. Just wished the off/on button felt better when you switch it on and off.

    I don’t know if you still have yours after all this time, but I wondered if you had ever discovered the “easter egg” voice message on the device?!? I count remember the sequence off the top of my head, but I seem to remember that if you did the communication with Spock on the double tap, but kept the button pressed upwards after the second press, you’ll hear Captain Kirk say something.
    I don’t know if they hit anything else on the device, but I did find that one.

      Philip, do you have to have the sound assigned into your phone as the default ringtone. If you do then that sound will come out of the communicator.

      +protoborg i'm talking about the ringtone, I took the botswain's whistle out of the CBS communicator iPhone app, assigned it as my iPhone ringtone so when I'm connected the communicator has that default wail, then the chitter sound as you Flip it open.

    My clamshell Mil. Spec. cellphone by Kyocera Duramax has Bluetooth so maybe... And the cellphone has eight hours of talk time for the chatty types. This Star Trek Communicator may be BIG for a cellphone, but is small for a Sat Phone passing calls through LEO ! Thank you for the video ! tjl PS Has anyone connected this with a real Sat Phone ?

    Millennials see this as a replica, because it looks like the TV show's model, just like they think an inflatable Scarlett Johansson is… well, anatomically correct. But what they forget is, the original was supposed to be able to speak to star ships at about the distance of the moon, that's 384 million meters, and sometimes, even further. Meanwhile a bluetooth device only speaks to another device 100 meters away. So here we are, 2016 and our simulated Star Trek communicator speaks to someone at a range shorter than a 1960's AM walkie-talkie!?? Whoa! Not impressive.

    • @savvy727
      @savvy727 8 років тому

      And here it is 2016 and we still have racial tensions, poverty, and hunger. We earthlings are not so impressive as a whole - so the unimpressive technology you see in this Bluetooth device is to be expected. Lighten up Francis, its a fun tech review.

    • @SocialSpit
      @SocialSpit 8 років тому

      Just give it a few years with the state of miniaturization and advances in technology pretty soon will have a protocol that could reach that far. And there are satellite phones that do reach up pretty far. Verizon also has a service that connects to a satellite as well, you just have to get their cellular modem. It doesn't connect to a cell tower but to a satellite. You can connect as many Wi-Fi devices to it as you want.

    • @SocialSpit
      @SocialSpit 8 років тому

      Also when you consider that Heddy Lamar was responsible for creating the technology that is used in all smart phones, pulse width modulation... It took a long time for that technology to become as widespread as it has.

    • @protoborg
      @protoborg 8 років тому

      Dude, we don't have transporters either. What's your freakin' point?

    • @SocialSpit
      @SocialSpit 8 років тому

      +protoborg I wasn't talking about transporters I'm talking about using this as a communication device, compared to what the device on television is supposed to do which is reach up to a ship in orbit. If the cell phone that you are pairing this to is connected to a Verizon wireless hub, then you are in fact reaching up into planetary orbit, as those hubs connect to satellite. I had to set up a guy's entire office network onto one of those things, five computers because they had no cable or DSL broadband in that area, The wireless hub connects to the satellite, then the computers connect to each other on the wireless Lan. so each of those computers are getting its Internet signal from a satellite. If you connect your smartphone's Wi-Fi to that network it will also be reaching into orbit, when you make a wireless call. So the paired Bluetooth communicator would in fact be communicating to a signal that's in orbit. And I'm still using my communicator to send this reply.
