I am going to a chiropractor appt at 10 am, stopping in at a discount grocer called Freshco here in Ontario, royal gala apples on sale only 88 cent a pound we are almost out, want to get some bananas, then go to my parents and spend time with their new puppy.
Time out of the house at hopefully a minimal cost ❤, seeing the chiropractor doctor is a must for my back

I never spend $200 on any day. People with children can do that but it has always been that way the last 30 years I can remember with my 3 kids.
I started driving in 1978 and remember gas doubling overnight from 60 cents to 1.20 a gallon. Then rationing! Long lines! Heating oil was absurd. So we’re not even close to that. Food and other items go up in price every few yrs since I’ve been alive. Lots of ways to beat the inflation. I’d like to see you show folks how to do a budget, reconcile to each month end and they would be pleasantly surprised at what is spent and how much they could save! Let’s see what you can do!

I make about 50k a year, after taxes. I do not eat out, use as minimal power in my house as I can, make all of my food at home so I wont have to buy something on my way to or back from work, flip old books and stuff for cash, go for long runs with a simple shirt and running shows and pay cash for everything. I'm out of debt but still do not have much to buy my own place. But I think I live much better and calmer than most of my friends who constantly use credit and take loans. It's hard, definitly, but it taught me how to trust myself and build myself slowly and consistantly.

In news today I read that an assisted living business in Ontario is increasing their monthly costs to the residents by $1000 a month. Yes, $1000. How on earth can you be prepared for that kind of increase? One of the residents affected is 93 years old and has to move, she has no idea to where. It scares me to death for those folks and for my own future.

The cost is terrifying for Assisted Living. In the U.S. the alternative is to “spend down” your assets to get approved by Medicaid, but you have to be in a place that accepts Medicaid which is not Assisted Living but a Nursing Home. I know someone in a private board & care home that pays $8K/month. She’s out when her money runs out unless I can get her into a place accepting Medicaid before she runs out of money. They take everything from you in the end of your days if you don’t have Long Term Care insurance.

You know what I think is sad ? What happened to going over to visit friends at their house and having a cup of coffee and visiting or maybe play cards ? Remember on the show Desperate Housewives they used to that ? It seems like right after that show ended it all changed. We all need to make an effort to do things like that again. Ask your parents about life in the 70s..backyard gardens, weekly rotating card or boardgame parties, carpooling, bartering and just helping each other with tasks like painting or wiring or plumbing when there was a competent person in the clique . Friends are the answer to many of today's problems. The phone does not help when it actually keeps people apart. You can visit virtually now without making the effort to entertain, in the old days the only option for a group of people to all get in touch at once and share thoughts was the aforementioned rotating 'party'. That was a great way to cooperate when money was scarce and so we're resources.

When I was growing up my mother thought gasoline was expensive. Therefore we hardly ever went anywhere. We stayed at home And we're always busy working in our vegetable gardens taking care of our chickens mowing painting scrubbing this scrubbing that, baking cookies and taking them to the neighbors etc etc. On Fridays we would go to the grocery store to get the things we could not grow ourselves. Run a few errands and then on Sunday morning we went to church. That was pretty much it unless the school year was in of course. My parents spent very little money and I think a lot of it has to do with.....just stay at home and take care of your stuff.

The only way we've been able to keep our grocery costs under control is to do the following: no meat, no processed foods/snacks (chips, cookies, etc), meal planning, eating less food, no food waste, and making everything at home and by scratch. Also, we don't go out to dinner anymore unless it's for a very special occasion. Four years ago we used to go out at least twice a week! That would be utterly ridiculous now. I truly don't know how people who have low incomes are getting by! They are the ones that are being hurt the most with this runaway inflation.

It isn't as costly here in southeast Iowa, but it does still cost plenty of money to leave home. I am perfectly happy here on our homestead, so I drive to town twice per month plus we drive to church on Sunday mornings. My husband drives a Prius to work and back (52mpg) so that helps a lot. I work from home because I have a woodshop here on the homestead.

Every time I go to Walmart, seems I spend like $75. Tired of it so now I put blinders on and walk directly to what I went in there for and get right out. Those look like strip steaks. They can come with a bone in or boneless. Great price. Cheapest here are 5.99/lb. We all love you too PP!

I seldom shop anymore - I grow food myself and I go to farmers markets so I stay out of the stores. The last few weeks when I have gone into a store, it's to get 1 or 2 things I "need" - that's it! What I have Noticed is How EMPTY the stores are!

To use less wood, you could place some bricks below your wood to elevate the fire, or lower the grill closer to the wood. Either would use less fuel and time.

It sounds like a problem with ultra processed food ingredients which basically we all have but if you eat them all the time you get used to feeling rubbish! You are used to eating natural, healthy food so you notice the difference.
Ultra processed ingredients are basically anything on the ingredients list that you wouldn't have as a normal ingredient in your cupboard. Our bodies aren't designed to deal with this stuff so it takes it's toll.

I like it very much when you talk about your backyard garden. I normally eat frozen or fresh vegetables. I don't buy canned or glass-jarred vegetables anymore because I don't like the taste; and since I don't eat as much salt anymore, highly salty foods give me a headache. I really like artichokes. I tried cooking artichokes once, and the outcome was both a sad and laughable experience. Prepper Princess, will you please consider doing a cooking video on how you prepare your home-grown artichokes?
