  • It's always been a HUGE goal for me to enter the Redbull Thre3style Competition and I'm proud to say I finally accomplished this goal. Whether or not I'm selected, I had a great time putting this together and it would mean the world to me if you could check it out!
    Also, big shout out to Fatman Scoop for helping me out with the drop, Joseph Pagliuca for always having my back with media and filming, and Jason Jani for letting me use his buttery smooth Technics in that beautiful damn piece of furniture. 🙏🏼

    The Red Bull Music 3Style World DJ Championships have been advancing the culture of DJing and entertaining audiences all around the world since 2010. Last year’s World Final in Krakow, Poland was absolutely incredible and they are now set to embark on their ninth year as a global event series and don’t worry, it promises to be even bigger and better!
    From April 15th - June 1st, 2018, DJs from all over the world can enter the championships with a 5 minute #3STYLE performance video submission that will be evaluated by their panel of past World Champions. In late June, the participants of the World Tour will be announced and starting in September, National Final Events will be taking place all over the globe.
    The winners of these events, along with a select few global wildcards (from countries without National Final Events), will then make their way to Taiwan for an all-expense-paid trip to participate in the Red Bull Music 3Style World Finals IX.

    This is has to qualify for sure. Nick demonstrated the following which is perfect for a Application routine
    1.Clean and sharp. While live routines can be forgiven when time is slightly off due to nerves etc, its never when its recorded, you can tell nick practice this routine meticulously which produced clean transitions with time,scratch and flow.
    2. Minimal serato face, piggybacking from the first, due to nick practicing, his face rarely looked at his laptop.
    3. Music selection was on point, even his timing on using his own voice added comedy and his style to the mix.
    4. He fulfilled the number 1 cardinal rule all djs must follow and that is... having fun. I mean look at that 2 step in the end....which leads to my last point.
    5. The 90s called.....they want their dance moves back LOL
    GREAT JOB!!

    Def got my vote !!! we need more of these sets that actually sound good to listen to and less of the pre edited tracks and excessive cuts. This is after all the Thr33style and not the DMC. Good work !! I hope this gets you through.

    When you double a song and leave the cross fader in the middle so they’re both playing, how are your levels the same? Is it because you have vinyl? When I do that on my DDJ-SX2 and leave the fader in the middle the song gets louder because the songs are on top of each other.
    Do you know what I’m saying haha? Idk if it makes sense.

    • @SCEEventGroup
      @SCEEventGroup  6 років тому

      Not sure I'm following you? So do you mean when I'm playing two songs at the same time, how are the levels even? I mean I just keep my volume channels to the max and adjust using the gains on top... you'll see me making random adjustments throughout because some songs are recorded differently with different levels etc. But if I'm not understanding you, let me know and we'll figure this ish out! -NS

    • @MasonThomas
      @MasonThomas 6 років тому

      If you have one song playing on left deck and double it to the right deck and leave the cross fader in the middle so it’s same song same time, does it sound the same volume as if the cross fader was only playing the left deck?

    • @SCEEventGroup
      @SCEEventGroup  6 років тому

      No it gets much louder and sometime distorts.

    • @MasonThomas

    • @djgonz123
      @djgonz123 5 років тому

      check your crossfader curve and make sure that it's on the sharpest slope so that your volumes are max and not fading in when you have the crossfader in the middle

    Nice job. Biggest feedback I could give you... the drums drop out too much. You'll lose the crowd every time you transition to an intro without a backing beat.

  • @jooelewis
    @jooelewis 6 років тому +1

    I like some of the ideas a lot. Not entirely convinced at the level of comfort in different genres. Fading out of Fast Forward To 2012 just feels like you were flowing for three and half minutes and just ran out of ideas. Everything in the set works but I really was hoping for more logical flow from one idea to another within track groups, especially after that fade out-I was expecting something a bit more flashy and complicated after that point and it kind of stayed the same in style. It just feels like you go from one two track combo, into another two track combo instead of trying to extend them into 4-6 track combos- That is definitely something worth practicing. It may just be because you wanted to show smaller combos because its a submission? I dunno. I would also spend time working on slower tempos. You pushed the beat just enough where it's noticeable. Slower BPM's will always be harder than faster ones.
    Because of how pitch and time (pitch n time?) works, intervals and pitches can behave weird when pianoing to intro another track to another.I say this because the ones you used musically incorrect (the most noticeable issue was at 1:07 or so) . There may not be anything you can do about that though, that may just be a Serato thing since its just stretched or condensing the wave forms to create the pitches. Would be nice for a mixer to introduce 16 performance pads, that would really help with a lot of your ideas when pianoing.
    Just some thoughts. Solid stuff regardless.

    • @SCEEventGroup
      @SCEEventGroup  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching Joe! So I kept to smaller combos to stay more raw because it's a submission. To be honest, I was DYING to drop a metal break down because I feel like that hasn't really been done before, but fading out and giving the ol "Was that too hard?" comment was the only logic way to get out of it at that point. I tried different ways of scratching the Fast Forward to 2012 but they didn't down right most likely because its a straight up metal punk song and there's no sharp edges yanno? As far as my tone play at 1:07, Intoxicated is at it's regular BMP (125) and iSpy was sped up about 3 BPMs I think pitch n time didn't really make a factor. I also used the actual notes of intoxication, not Pitch-Play. If I had 16 Pads that would be crazy - if I get selected, I'm gonna have a very very crazy routine with all types of multiple combos. I have so many ideas, I may just make the routine regardless haha -NS

      SCE Event Group Im gonna be honest a lot of the gripes I had were extremely minor. It also came off like I disliked the routine, which is not the case.

      Joe Lewis yeah, I THiNK I understand your point about 1:07? Your talking about how he used those musical “hits” and slowed it bpm into the next and I think you were concerned the tone got compromised because he did it st a slower tempo? I have a pretty good ear being a life long musician and a new dj assistant and I think this is splitting hairs, very minor. Unless something I’m not understanding.
