Cursing and gossiping are sinful actions. It’s not a penance to “ give up”. They’re actions that need to be removed from our lives anyway
These are such good ideas!
here’s a couple I came up with:
- waiting 1 more minute before eating food or ending your prayer time
- forcing yourself to close your eyes and pause with God for a second or two before continuing what your doing
- don’t sleep in
- being gentle and loving towards yourself when you really feel like beating yourself up about something
- eating a type of food/picking the meal you like less (the one that isn’t your first pick on the menu)
- talking to people kindly and lovingly
- listening (don’t just pretend to listen). a lot of people just want to be heard.
- resisting giving unwanted advice or telling your own experiences when someone just wanted you to listen
- not buying your favorite foods
- get out of your comfort zone in a good way (talk to someone new, try a new food, take a different route to work)
- spend extra time with your pets (they get lonely too)
That's a good list
I would definitely recommend giving up social media as much as possible. Several months ago (maybe a year now?) I deleted instagram and snapchat and have been much happier ever since. I also agree with not talking about personal problems on social media, that's nobody's business! If you need help talk to a friend in person or over the phone.
You're inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing your penance ideas! I will definitely follow the advice! 🙌🙌🙌 God bless you!
Wanting to add and recognizing the need for more penance in my life has been heavy on my mind the last 2 days. Thanks for sharing this video. I now have a grasp of the many different ways that I can better perform penance for my sins and the sins of the world.
Thanks for some great ideas. I especially like the one about purposefully waiting in the longer line for Christ.
Just to clarify though, some of the things you mentioned as penance have more to do with working on a fault. Giving up cursing for instance cannot really be considered a penance. But it is still a good thing to do.
This is a great list.
I do cold showers (from lukwarm to cold), doing general stuff I don't like, sleeping on the floor, no heated seats in winter.
Been looking for #36. Exercising isn't pleasant for me after having tried so many different programs. Then, I wondered can I offer it up as a penance for the holy souls in purgatory? Now that's a motivation!
Previously I used to walk to church for mass instead of taking any vehicle as an act of penance….. but the walk was only about 10 mins so it wasn’t in any way hard
As life progresses the penances seem to come all by themselves. These small voluntary practices help us deal with big crosses when they come.
Suffer is unnecessary. Suffer is damaging. Suffer makes us weaker. Our patience is limited.
Suffering is an essential part of life. Look at anyone who achieved a great goal and you will see that they succeeded because they suffered. "If you wish to be my disciple take up your cross daily and follow me."
All good things comes only from God. Suffer never comes from God. Suffer comes from sin. Is sin with its fruits necessary to succeed? No.
It might seem you succeeded because of the hard work, but actually you had that hard work to do just because you live like a lost son in a foreign country far away from Fathers home. And that is consequence of your sin. In heaven you would have all good things without hard work.
And it might seem that your success is what you created, but no. It is only a gift from God. God not gives in any other way.
Yes!! Thank you! I've been thinking of what penances I can do! Happy Saturday!^_^
These are all amazing suggestions! God bless xx
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this!
These are great! Thank you so much!
Thank you for the inspiring videos! God bless you always. 😇
Thank you for the nice suggestions

Excellent ideas thank you
Daniel fasted and prayed and didnt eat meat and didn't use lotions for 3 weeks...i believe in penance.
I didn’t think I’d learn anything new but I wanted to watch anyways and I was surprised there’s a lot of new ideas here!!
Did you hear what that friar said today he said that were in the end times,he said that by the spring that we can start going down hill he also said that this was the most evilist time ever.
Awesome post's thanks may God bless you
Also, yes! Us Orthodox go vegan Wednesdays and Fridays all year, during major feast days and the 40 days preceding both Easter and Christmas. (there are however exemptions for people with health issues).
So inspiring friend!
You are so inspiring .. such a young soul , all for Jesus ..
I'm having a problem with #7: "Give up sugary drinks and food"
Giving up sugary drinks wasn't a problem.
I'm definitely struggling with giving up food.
These are all good ideas 💡
I gave up TV for Lent one year, and I found that my life was better. If you can't give up TV altogether, getting rid of the cable or satellite or whatever is good.
And cold showers yes, absolutely 🥶
💜 Cool Welcome tune.
Just curious, why is the video mirrored?
I'm a poor man I made this channel to help my family👨👨👧👦🙏🧡🧡🙏👩👩👧👦🙏
I am new but linking to all social media sites is a narcissist red flag.
I was thinking self-flagellation. Oops 😂
There are so much needed to be a good Catholic
Don't think of it that way. You don't need to be the perfect Catholic in order for God to be pleased with you. You just have to do your best for Him and He will be happy.
why are you talking with your hand
😂🤣😂
In our prayer congegration we recently made a christian all male weekend seminar to discuss why christianity is increasingly insignificant and a fading force in the world, unable to attract the piety. I attended cause i thought the causes would by obvious. We assembled around 60 people (we are a small town in northern germany) which is a LOT. And then... most of them were unable or unwilling to even discuss the reasons for the waning away. Its all so tiresome
What is a penance?
Penance is when you give up something you love, such as the examples she gave in the video. And offering it up to God in reparation for your sins!❤️
voluntary self-punishment inflicted as an outward expression of repentance for having done wrong
THE ANGELUS!!! SUCH A GOOD SUGGESTION!!!
Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariae.
Et concepit de Spiritu Sancto.
(Ave Maria, gratia plena; Dominus tecum: benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.)
Ecce ancilla Domini.
Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum. (Ave Maria)
[Genuflect] Et Verbum caro factum est.
Et habitavit in nobis. (Ave Maria)
Ora pro nobis, sancta Dei Genitrix.
Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi.
Oremus.
Amen.
6:23 NO
What's the point of all of this?
to give loving offerings of sacrifice to Christ, in union with His sufferings for us.
Let's say there is a dad who works a lot to bring food on a family table. Like.. really a LOT. Kids know it and decide to throw away that food. Why? Because they want to suffer together with their dad.
What a result we have?
Dad suffer is in vain. Plus he suffers now even more, because his children suffer hunger.

Everything what is good on this earth came through Jesus' suffer on the cross. You want to throw it away or to take it?
@@loveandideas7826 Your examples have nothing to do with penance and do not relate at all. The Bible along with Tradition ask us to fast, pray, and do penance. This has been the same in Old and New Covenant law. If you wish to disobey God that is your affair.
Yes of course we enjoy the things of God. But abstaining from those things at times reminds us to be even more grateful for them, and teaches us to not indulge. Fasting for God is a way of being on the good side of the Sermon on the Mount - Blessed are those who hunger.
Jesus Christ Himself gave us fasting, prayer, and penance. He also gave us food. We should enjoy both things and not refuse either the spiritual gifts or the gifts for the body in due season. There is a time for fasting and a time for feasting. Medical science shows us what happens to those who indulge in food and drink and never take a break from it.
So you anyway believe that we should from time to time throw away what Jesus bought us with His precious blood?
@@loveandideas7826 Jesus bought our salvation with His Precious Blood. But that salvation requires our participation. The only way to throw away that would be through sin. If we choose to ignore His commandments and instead indulge ourselves and take His graces for granted, then we would be throwing away our salvation. I hope that you don't wish to commend others to throw away their salvation, paid for by the Precious Blood of Christ.
