Awesome find, thanks! Early days of the OGWT. They're clearly miming the instrumental parts, but they probably weren't confident enough to play the songs live (the Fearless album had only been released a few days prior to this filming.)
yes, and the backing tracks would be new ones make specially for that programme, rather than ones brought in from the studio. It cut down on royalties to be paid. However, with OGWT they did prefer to have the band play live if at all possible. The first appearance of Focus was live and pretty incredible!
They sang over backing tracks as standard policy. Even a slightly remixed version of the album track would seem to have been acceptable...and it would have had to have been remixed to leave space for the live vocals
Many thanks to Steve Dinsdale for posting brilliant footage - I’m a huge fan of Family since the early 70’s and I’ve not seen this previously.
Incredible song. The classic Family Line up. Wetton is amazing here
Simplemente genial , Roger Chapman, que maravillas hizo con The Family... su musica , ya es patrimonio intangible de la humanidad!
Family at their peak. “Fearless” is their masterpiece.
~ I saw Family in concert in Avignon in 1971. Great times!
..a Paris, a l Olympia, si ma mémoire
m est fidèle.....
Grandios.
Wow. I've never seen this one before. Absolutely stunning...
Love Chapman's voice but Wetton's is underappreciated here...
John Wetton ! !

It was policy at the bbc to have backing tracks while the vocals were live

@@duncanparsons Backing track sounds identical to the record.

is shows how many takes are necessary to get a TV performance right.
For the uninformed: 2/11 means November 2, not February 11.
