  • Pinlights Pinball Stadium Lighting Mod - Better Than Pin Stadium?
    Today I'll be showcasing a new pinball mod product I picked up for my Stranger Things pinball machine. A set of stadium lights from a new pinball modification company called Pinlights. Let's see how well they deliver on their first economic offering to the pinball market, and see if Pin Stadium should be worried about their new competition.

    Wow! I remember assembling and testing your order! I had no idea you'd do a review! First off, thank you so much for the excellent quality review, and I'm glad that it fit your needs well. We're constantly trying to improve, so your feedback was absolutely invaluable. Happy pinballing! Also, definitely subbed!

      Thanks for making such a great product, I'm really happy with the results. I'll be grabbing a set of your "pro" light rails as well whenever you have them available to sell! Also thank you very much for the sub, I appreciate the support.

      Would this work in an older SS game like the system 80s or bally/Williams stuff?

    • @JimmyHacksThings
      @JimmyHacksThings Місяць тому

      @@noahmorris7940 They do indeed. All you need is a service port (or wall outlet) to plug our power brick into, a flasher connection and a GI connection. Both flasher and GI connections are rated up to 48V. So as long as you're not hooking it up directly to a coil, you should be good to go!

    Thanks for providing quality pinball content. It's really good that Pinstadium is getting some competition.

      My pleasure. I think competition is definitely good for the industry, forces everyone to innovate or provide the best value you can consumers they can. So seeing someone take on the industry leader in lightning is refreshing

    Very interesting. You know I have stadiums in almost all of my machines and right away I noticed several differences that I like. 1. Price. 2. Better packaging. 3. Shield that doesn’t allow the lights to shine to the side. 4. Quick disconnect on the back. 5. App seems to be easier to use and I like the tournament mode.
    Thanks for the great review, I’m going to have to try a set. I got a set of the PS Atom X for Jaws. Extra $200 for a light effect that does not look good at all, on that game, so I shut them off.

      Yeah I figured you might be interested in these, as they certainly address many of the pain points of pin stadiums a lot of owners have stated for a long time

      not knowing any better and about to buy a set or two of pinstadiums thanks for listing the differences. I may just go down this route to save some $. From the video these look awesome. Any reason other then reputation to still pursue the pinstadiums?

    I've never used any lights like this but think they would be great for 90s era games or other games that tend to be a little dark..not against them at all just never used them amd like them in tournament mode where they aren't crazy flashing

    • @cooltoy
      @cooltoy  Місяць тому +1

      Tournament mode is a nice touch for sure. I’ve played some local tournaments where the game had lights similar to these and the strobing during a multi ball mode was nauseating. Wayyyyy to much flashing so I’m glad it’s optional to turn that kind of thing off

      @@cooltoy Absolutely! I know exactly what you are talking about..that mode makes me want to consider these

    The perpendicular light shield is a MUST. I won’t touch the others for that reason alone.
    That ballast looked the size of a bread truck, though. I wasn’t sure if you put it on the outside or inside. Maybe I missed it. 🤷‍♂️

    Wow does a great job can think of many games that need the middle playfield lit up

    • @cooltoy
      @cooltoy  Місяць тому +1

      Absolutely, some of those classic 80s and 90s Bally/Williams games especially are prone to being super dark, these lights would definitely bring out the best in some of those colorful playfields and help views during gameplay.

    Interesting. Prob spent $7k on stadium lights but now with 32 games it’s just too expensive to do for all. This maybe a good solution. Maybe bulk discounts?

    How to turn a Stranger Things into an Elton John 😁

      Man Elton John Pinball is on a whole other level when it comes to lighting, I would likely have to hook up my home generator to a game to get it that bright 😂

    I was hoping for more of a comparison against Pin Stadium. Why are these so much less expensive? Seems like a great alternative but it would be helpful to know what you're losing (?) by going the cheaper route.

    • @cooltoy
      @cooltoy  Місяць тому

      There is a really good "How are pinlights different" breakdown on their website that I think breaks down their comparison to Pin Stadium for you: pinlights.net/faq/

    • @strells
      @strells Місяць тому

      @@cooltoy Thanks for pointing this out! But I still don't see what the cost difference is. Then again, it really doesn't make sense to me why Pin Stadium is *so* expensive for basically LED strips. These Pinlights seem much more in line with what something like this should cost.

    • @JimmyHacksThings
      @JimmyHacksThings Місяць тому +4

      @@strells (Disclaimer: I own Pinlights) - So one thing you're "missing" compared to Pin Stadiums are the ability to set any color you want for the GI. Pinlights offers warm white, cool white and a "UV/bright purple" flasher circuit for the classic editions. The other thing, we manufacture all of our own hardware, and we do it at scale, so we can get a lower cost on the materials that go into it. The other thing is when you're the only shop in town, you can charge whatever you want, which I think is the situation you've become used to. We still have profit margins baked into Pinlights, so it's not like we're selling anything at a loss, which would be predatory and bad for the industry.

    • @cooltoy

      I try to avoid that sort of thing mainly because when and if a price changes on a product in the future, I always get some dumb commenters saying “I lied about the price” of something because it doesn’t match the price they currently see when they watch a video.

    • @Mechulus
      @Mechulus Місяць тому

      @@cooltoy Fair enough, but I'd think if you said something like "As of 4-7-24, the price for this kit was $179.00 - compared to the cheapest Pinstadiums which currently go for $300.00. Just a thought, but you do you.
