I can't get over how good your content is. you are basically giving us high quality cinematography masterclasses for free while being genuinely funny at the same time. This channel is pure gold for filmmakers, thank you very much!
Pure gold!!
I totally agree. Thank you Patrick!
2:37 - “good luck telling that to the wife” 🤣🤣🤣
I really laughed at that. Genuinely funny
It's refreshing to know I'm not the only one who scrubs with the playhead back and forth and adds voices to the video. I like to have some hip hop playing on my radio and do that so it looks like people rapping. I'd say that's 60% of my day.
Me too! I do it even before I'm grading. Did it watching the sun set on a hyperlapse I got yesterday. Music can vary but yeah
Me: Ow, that lighting looks pretty decent!
"It's not really flattering"
Me: Exactly what I thought
Hahahah
The GIF part had me laughing. Hilarious.
"You wanna shoot SPHERICAL ????!" Lmao, great breakdown sir!
This is like a new informative stand up of some sort 😂 I come for the breakdowns stay for the comedy!
I just want to chime in on the last ~20 secs. It's that type of advice that clearly displays experience and a depth of understanding that isn't confined to, say, one dimension of filmmaking but instead meets the actual demands of reality (for instance considering the psychology/perception of a shot versus the originally planned imagery). There's content out there that tends to show only perfect scenarios and polished technique but I have a feeling that even as budgets get bigger the universe will throw you a curve ball and having both the required good humor and confidence is what will likely set you apart. At least that's what I took away from this! Thanks!
Apart from everything else, I love the fact that your BG is green today - matching the spot-on art direction for the palette of this commercial.
Was just watching something else, nope, pause! We got new breakdown guys!
You should do Stand Up Comedy for Cinematographers
the 3s joke ddn't hit me for like a milli second, but when it did ... LMAO
Man, this cracked me up. Great sense of humor (0.38 and up). And I really love your insightfull brakedowns. Awesome.
"Good luck telling that to the wife." That sent me 🤣
I learn so much from these breakdowns. Still very advanced but I'm starting to understand the principles at play.
If these one-liners don't make it into some Wandering DP merch I'm going to be upset..
this has so much value. thanks for sharing!
Love it my man! great content again!
Always a blast brother!!
The gang at Wonderland Video Productions says a big thanks for your videos. We sit and go over them as a team. Tons of fun while learning some amazing lighting tips
On 10:02 if I'm not wrong, it can be seen that two keylights are used with different intensities coming from different angles on the guy sitting on the table and the Swedish one taking picture. Tell me if its OK and its not a fault.
Keep going ma master. Always iam waiting your break down videos. ❤️❤️❤️
This is insane, can you make more this type of breakdowns where the light support motion with shadows?
great cinematography breakdown as always. I'm learning much from this content, thank you.Bruno Delbonnel is a master!
he certainly is.
This is soo good 💯
Mate, its unlikely to ever happen but I would love to work on one of your sets. I bet they are so much fun. I've only recently discovered to world of the Wandering DP but beasting my way through the back catalog not just for the info laid out in a non pompous way, but the humour. Thank you for not being another bell end.
I recently paid lot of money for an online cinematography masterclass with actual hollywood DP's, and while they are all great and nice guys, this is way more practical and hands on info - really well done Patrick. Also a podcast question: When will we ever get an episode on leica photography? Been waiting since episode#1. 1/10 - fake news
The problem I always find is they try to make courses so that its accessible for beginners but Patrick just assumes you have some knowledge. Very refreshing
"Everything is better in 3's...Good luck telling that to the wife" LOL
0:47 hilarious! 😭🤣
Really enjoy these breakdowns and so much to learn, thx!
Just thinking as a different approach and what you think. From time to time, Is it possible to get breakdowns from really bad content and how to get it better?
I know probably not easy and shouldn‘t be blaming.. :) Because i think most of us consuming your great content are low level and then to see such level of content and how to get it really better would be worthful. Just an input.. thx for all your content! Greetings from switzerland
With your talking I 3 times had to make sure I'm running the video in normal speed :D But that's what I like - keep it condensed and packed with info!
What would you have done at 11:50 if you noticed the light was actually too hot for your taste? Is scrimming it down just enough so that is becomes softer a good solution?
This is just awesome 😂😂😂
Awesome breakdown! Just wondering, you mention "framework" in a lot of your videos, what exactly do you mean by that?
67k holy smokes congrats, coulda sworn i followed around 10k and thought wow youtubes algo sucks 😂
Tq for the knowledge sir
Felt like I was watching this video at 1.5x speed haha. You were SUPER into it, man. I set it to .75x and it was perfect so no worries.
Life comes at you pretty fast
I NEED to know how you get that slit of light behind your head, is it some kind of tilted mirror? Where does the light even come from? It's freaking magic
Nice content! What is software you're used for pen drawing on screen?🧡
"U wanna shoot spherical?" "No Sir, just the packshot in the very end"
the beer man only shoots spherical
can't believe that Jon Hamm became a DOP now
Is that true? Is there actually a totally different DP for the beer shot or does it say gullible on the ceiling?
what is that chart that's out of focus behind your head? I've rented lighting equipment once in my life and I saw the same chart and felt very novice for not knowing what these things are..
I had this paused and I came back to my screen and tried to add a new node to davinci resolve
Haha dude the looking part 👌
Why do you use the Photek umbrella instead of the light dome every other UA-camr recommends?
It looks nicer
"Good luck telling that to the wife". HAHAHAH
Nice one Patrick,
I always wonder how production can pay for del Toro but hardly get the correct continuity edition.
Is that a very difficult thing, almost utopic? I get very disappointed every time I "realized" everything shot was in fact fake.
In this one, in particular, I see the guy with a pink shirt taking sit behind the Swedish woman; he is gone in the next cut.
I think I get what you're expressing, but of course it's fake; it's a commercial. On the day, with only one morning to get it done, and not much time of ideal light, they are going to be moving pretty fast to get those shots. It could also be that those two takes were the best performance of the actor, so they chose what sells the moment instead of technically perfect.
I hadn't even noticed him until you brought it up, and it's likely only truly noticeable when looked at in a shot-by-shot breakdown. For the average viewer, in real time, they probably aren't going to notice that guy. If they do, the DP isn't drawing focus to the correct part of the frame.
@@bullettin Thanks, I guess you are right, but it is difficult to get rid of that feeling.
Benicio looks more like Brad Pit on a hangover
How is this about cinematography angles and not lighting different shots?
"stand in shot" lmaooo
anyone with.a link to the commercial
Wait, no 1st AD’s daughter? 😂
Maybe the people are from the netherlands ;)...this would fit with the beer from it.
These breakdowns are the dogs gonads.
i laughed way too hard bruh
Great videos!! Could you review some of the videos of "Match_Berlin" on Instagram ? They did a few Audi, Mercedes and other.
0:40 :'D
You just need to tap "P" to full screen
Could you do a breakdown of the new Sony Alpha 1 camera release video? Here’s the link:
ua-cam.com/video/4vTWf0LYoDM/v-deo.html
Are you any relation to JT O'Sullivan who does the QB School on UA-cam?? You look like bros... and have the same last name... and his on camera shot doesn't look half bad.
I can neither confirm or deny that I have remote DPed a family members youtube set up
@@wanderingdp Your secret (or non secret) is safe with me.
Not as good as Peter Mckinnon though, Just tell us how to shoot cinematic B-Roll. LOL
Had to look up Peter McKinnon. Just a UA-camr indeed. The difference is that Patrick could've shot this commercial, Peter McKinnon couldn't.
Love your arrogance, 'This is our shot. We're shooting this...We've got that...'. Shame on you for your lack of upfront disclosure in identifying the 'real' DP, followed by the lazy armchair critique...'looks like Cooke anamorphics...'. Dude, if you dare to break down someone else's work, show respect by talking in the third person and offer full disclosure for who's work you're pulling apart. In the meantime, keep playing with the kids in the sandpit...
lol.
You just affirmed your own ignorance of who the DP was. Grow up and demonstrate respect of your peers
Does it matter who the DP is?
Wow, your lack of respect and apathy (through a lack of copyright acknowledgment) for (a fellow) artist's work is breathtaking. Therefore let's all refer to say fine artworks as Ours and We chose this brushwork or We framed our talent in front of blah blah blah. You're a little too wandering in your self indulgent (isolated) opinion. Instead show genuine support and revered love for the craft by acknowledging the artist upfront. No one likes plagiarism
You forgot to answer the question.
