I got my R3 refurbished for 180.00. I use it on my Goldwing and my car. The best all around detector, hands down. So worth it for the price. make sure you stay up to date with updates. Its free and Uniden is a great company with fantastic customer service.

Great video!! I just got an R3 a couple weeks ago, WOW, what a GINORMOUS HUGE improvement over my old unit!! This thing has a GREAT range, and the filtering is fenominal, it’s so quiet, unless there’s an actual issue. I did a lot, A LOT of research, and found this to be the best option, the best bang for your buck. Yes, an R8 would be great, but out of my price range.
Thank you for watching our video Rick! Although it took time I am sure, it's always a good idea to do a lot of research when you are making a big purchase like a radar detector. The R8 is a great radar detector for sure, but you can't beat the R3 when it comes to price and performance.

Which was your old unit?
I purchased an R3 last week for a long roadtrip.. it worked much better than my Cobra 480. The R3 and Waze were extremely useful.
Does it work good like let just say you might of forgotten to turn off the stove at the house so u speed back home to turn it off will it go off if there are any cops near by and how long of a distance will it let you know how far they are?
Like Waze directions app? What did that help you with? Lol
@@bradenmay8862 the notification of the police locations... it helped minimize false alarms or verify alerts from the R3.
A few years ago state troopers in Florida were deliberately posting random police locations to make drivers not trust the app.
@@bradenmay8862 Waze is only good for sitting cops running radar but it won’t let you know if a moving cop car has its lasers on.
You can mark the location of clocking units on the waze map
Do these only alert you when a speed gun is being pointed at you, or will they pick up police who are not tracking you with a speed gun ( ie can they detect police radio comms? )

Hi James . . . great question. They will not pick up police radio communications, but they will detect radar and speed guns (laser or LiDAR) regardless if they are being pointed at you or not. Radar detectors like this can give you a good "lay of the land" and let you know if an officer is driving nearby or waiting off to the side of the road. Is there a remote version?
No, unfortunately ... all the Uniden radar detectors we have driven with have a wired connection. The K40 Platinum 100 has a remote to help control the detector, but it's still a wired connection for the power.

Yes, you can use it in the Great State of Alabama.
Does it work against lasers?
Yes it does, although it's important to specify that since laser guns shoot only a narrow beam at first, many radar detectors will miss them initially. That is because the officer is aiming for a small but flat surface on your car, such as the license plate or headlight. Looking through the gun as the operator, it will appear as a small dot when you aim it. Thus, if you are the first car targeted, your radar detector (regardless of brand) will likely not alert.
As the laser (i.e. LiDAR) spreads out, then a radar detector can pick it up. You will have more luck with your radar detector alerting if you are a few cars back from the initial car that is targeted by laser.

Why does my R3 only show a red dot whenever it’s on ?
You likely have the display set to "Dark Mode," although typically in that mode, you will see a single white dot in the lower corner that moves from bottom left to center to bottom right-not a red dot only. Try changing the display settings (via the Menu button on top), which will show more than just a dot on the screen. There is the Scan, Mode, and Time displays. Do you need a newer vehicle? I still whip around my 99 f150 and this seems like a great buy. Any other info I should know about? Thank you in advance
Hi Josh . . . thank you for watching! And no, you don't need a newer vehicle. You just need to place the radar detector on your windshield where it's not obstructed.

So how does it even "see" a narrow beam laser to warn the driver (before being pinged)? Also, there seems to be a lot of confusion as to whether this unit is equally effective vs money-grabbong law enforcement in the UK.
I bought an R3 for my new Chevrolet 1500 had to buy a USB to cigarette lighter when it is plugged in it interferes with my radio

Doesn’t the r3 unit come with cigarette lighter connection? Does the interference only happen when the r3 is hard wired into the car’s electrical?
