Teddy's discussion of the Australian-style punters at 1:10:25 was golden. I'm Old School and so agree completely. "Some things we just don't lower ourselves to do." Didn't mention Tawee, boys! It looked like a fat man run on that 60-yarder that got called back. Walker should 100% be RB1. "But he doesn't have breakaway speed!" Give me five yards a pop all day every day, and the fat man rough and tumble for 20 whenever he's feeling froggy. Instead of just running a carousel of backs for 2-yards per play. They may be better backs, but not with what our line is capable of, it seems. The man for the job is the man with the tool for the job. Tawee's got that tool, son!

He had less touches and did more with it again. He gets hurt by the big hold call on his final stat line though. What am I missing? Is he bad in pass block? Is he not a receiving threat? I don't necessarily believe the "it's a cycle" or "reputation" that keeps Riley from having good defenses.
I think it comes down to simple "opportunity cost". And that is that when you focus on offense as much as he does, that will always come at the expensive of something else. In Riley's case, it's defense..
It's incredibly rare for teams to have great defenses and offenses at the same time. It's always going to be a little up and down each year based on a number of factors. But in general, you get what you prioritize. Riley prioritizes offense.

  • @cryhwks
    @cryhwks Рік тому +1

Walker should be RB1, right now, he's leaps and bounds better than everyone else. And I don't think it's even close.
I think he can wear down a defense, the first guy almost never takes him down, he always falls forward, and occasionally he can hit big chunk run, like against ISU that got called back for holding. And, he's just way more consistent than every other back. He really reminds me of Trey Sermon.
I don't understand why Major is playing so much more over him? Is it really only because Major has the scholarship?
Gabe mentioned Major making an awful decision on that catch and run play. How, can Major not understand making his cut towards the direction that Drake is blocking his man towards isn't a good idea? There was no one around for a mile if he cuts the other way.
And the problem is, that's happened constantly throughout this season. Major should have 400-500 rushing yards this season if his vision or decision making wasn't ass.
I think the RB pecking order should be Walker, Sawchuck, Major.
Walker, he should be getting 20-25 carries a game. Sawchuk, the hope is with practice and in game reps, he can find a rhythm, that maybe comes out in full force towards the end of the season. And Major just so you don't run the other 2 into the ground.

I would ask Ted, if its true that Linc cares about Defense, why is it that recruits like Okoye has said that on his first recruiting visit, he never saw Lincoln Riley? Does Lincoln WANT a good defense? Yes. Does he want one bad enough to actually devote his OWN time to recruiting it?

Honestly, major can run hard and decent speed but for some reason he can’t see holes very good or if somebody’s blocking, he’s not paying attention to the side they’re on and which way they’re blocking them or which way they might change he needs better eyes but there isn’t a lot of space, but he really needs to use his eyes better

I think you missed it on Colorado. They were given a blank check this year. Their strong start meant they can ride the hype wave the rest of the season. I don't care that they "fought back" against a much lesser team, namely their defense.
What people are missing is Colorado will not have this hype next year. The fun will be over. Their expectations will be a lot higher so unless they really have a great team, no one will care (and they won't). Also, people are forgetting they're about to join an incredibly boring conference. If I'm USC all I have to do is say, "Do you want to play Cincinnati, BYU, and Kansas? Or do you want to play Oregon, Michigan, and Ohio State?" Dion won't stay that long because it's Colorado and for the other reason I just stated. CU better enjoy this year, because it's all they will get.

The pass rush has to get home on Ewers. Theres been a few times they've had a quarterback dead to rights and flew right by him kind of out of control. They have to get under control and make the play. Ewers will make you pay for that and he tends to get rattled when hes hit a bunch.

    Second time I’ve asked this.
Gabe, you’ve went a little in depth about the O-Line’s poor play. How much does that affect how underwhelming our RBs have been so far? As others have mentioned, the RB room got a lot of hype coming into the season. Saw a lot of good things from them last season. Are they just not getting enough open holes/space from the o-line? Is it all on the backs or the line or both?

I’m leaning towards the offensive line, myself. Time after time I watch these backs just plowing into just a mess of defenders and our own linemen. It’s ugly to watch. You can’t think that out of 4 or more of these backs that none of them can run… I think they’re just not getting any open running lanes at all. But I’m not an expert. I’m just curious what Gabe and Teddy think.
