Idea for the garage: install a screw in eye at each end of the room and use a temporary clothes line to hang wet stuff. I do this for my 10 person tent. To make the line even faster to put up, use the style of clips for dog leashes.
Tucker IS perfect, even if it is your show gosh darn. :) Also end of video thought - that was ~41 minutes with you talking us through it. I expect you could do it in half that time if you were just doing it and not explaining at the same time. To avoid having a number of half-empty isobutane gas canisters in your storage bin after trips - or worse yet taking one out on a hike - you can use a handy little device that attaches 2 of them together with valves, in order to empty one out and refill the other. Like the FlipFuel or G-Works Gas Saver. Miranda‘s buddy Eric Hanson recently had a video with the creator of the FlipFuel explaining how that process works.

I’m a big fan of setting the tent up to air and dry. I’m just amazed at how fast a tent dries on a sunny or windy day! Plus, I can check for holes, tears, etc. I store my tents loose in a box, to decrease creasing.
GIRL, I had NO idea you were soo organized!!!! I am vibing hard core with your mad organization I love it!!! Loved the real time video. Unpacking after any type of trip is super stressful and overwhelming, so it was really nice to see it real time!
@Miranda Goes Outside!! Hey! get you a Fuel Transfer Device By FlipFuel from garage grown gear. It transfers leftover fuel from one partially filled canister to another...so you can use up the canister fuel and not have a ton bottles left over.
I looove this channel!! I would love like a complete tour of every backpacking thing u have idk why I just love gear videos so much and All your organization makes me happy lmao
May I suggest hanging a clothesline in your garage with a carabiner or something so you can temporarily hang your tent/ bag to dry? It works a little better than a ladder. If you're in a hurry you can setup a fan also.
I hope you get to go backpacking with your mom. You inspired me to go out for the first time since the 1980’s and I had a wonderful time with my husband last week. I am now 67 and have been hiking a lot since moving to Colorado. I loved the experience camping. Sleeping on the ground was tolerable with a lot of your recommendations for gear. Keep up the videos. I enjoy watching you and your crew and your friends.
I got one of those giant REI storage bins for my car camping gear and it is amazing. I've got a Rubbermaid tote and a couple sets of Rubbermaid drawers for my backpacking gear
This was a great idea for a video! I think I need to compartmentalize my big sotrage bins like this. Brilliant! Y'all seem so happy since relocating. Loving the most recent vids! ❤️
I wish I could be so organized! That's so briliant, and your garage is amazing! I live in a 3rd floor walk-up currently and when I come home from a trip now, instead of taking stuff down to the basement storage, I just stuff it in random bins somewhere. I have too much stuff! 😂 I hang my tent over the shower curtain too 😊
Has anyone ever done this before? I've seen how to store gear videos but never a I just got back this is what I do video. Thanks Miranda! Thanks for offering something different.
I'd love a video sometime on how you plan your trips. How do you find trails, how do you decide the mileage you want to do, how do you find backcountry campsites along a trail/get permits, what type of maps you use, etc.
Oh - and what's the deal with leaving your car at a trailhead? I've been told to leave a copy of your itinerary under the drivers seat in case of emergency, but do you have to display a permit or anything on the dash for rangers? (or does it vary by park/forest?)
Thanks again for this video!! Two questions: 1- have you heard about the flipfuel device to empty your canister? 2- I was told to also store my sleeping pad half inflated instead of rolled up in its pouch. Any comments about that (it's not very space friendly to store it inflated). Love your videos!! Can't wait for the next one!
The more I see your custom pack and fanny pack, the more I want them too (or something similarly bright and fun). I hope you all had a wonderful weekend 💚 Ps. Please give Tucker (and Rainer) a pat on the head for me 😊
I actually just came back from a quick back packing trip and was going to wait til later to unpack, but then I was like no. So I unpacked, showered and decided to watch UA-cam and BAM! Unpacking video!! lol something to occupy me while my tent dry on the clothes line 😂
I use an over the door shoe organizer for all my small items for backpacking and camping. Each pocket is labeled and clear so it makes packing and unpacking super easy
39:19 for me it takes about 15 seconds. I open up the bag, and dump the contents. I do have to go and put everything away, but that usually takes me a couple of days to do that piecemeal.
I would love to see a video on how you and Rainer store your gear. It has been super helpful to me to see how you pack and unpack your pack, even though I'm a fairly seasoned backpacker. I always get helpful tips from you both. Thank you for informing us and making us smile at the same time!
Definitely jealous of your storage system(s)! I'm currently without a garage so most of my gear is in bins in the basement. Definitely looking forward to rebuilding the garage WITH gear-specific shelving / storage in mind - YAY for organization! 🙌🏼
Hi Miranda! I discovered your channel recently and I love it! Would you please do a little overview and review of your various dry packs for your gear? I’m looking for alternatives to plastic and ziplock bags. I’m aiming for light and durable dry packs if you’ve got suggestions! Thanks 😊
Every time I hear you talk about lmnt I want to check it out so badly...but they don't ship to Svalbard and Norwegian import rules for supplements are super strict 😢
Would love to hear more about board games you take camping. Haven’t heard anyone talk about it yet, but I’ve seen “worlds smallest” uno or farkle nano and wondered if they would be any good for backpacking.
36:30 I only have two sleeping bags, and can’t really afford to replace them. So as soon as I get home from a trip, before I even shower, I remove my sleeping bags from my backpack and l lay them out to air out. I usually air them out for a full day before stowing them in their designated loose-knit cotton sack.
For you repair kit, I have it flipped, instead of duct tape rolled inside I roll it on the outside of the pill bottle (makes it easier to unwind later) and cord is tightly wound in an easy to unwind coil inside the pill bottle - it keeps cord dry and nothing to slip or unwind from outside the bottle. I am sure there are pros and cons to each method but duct tape outside, cord inside has worked well for me as repair kit so far.
My unpacking is basically a gear explosion on a (game) table (sort of like at camp). I've not put anything away because it's the same stuff I'll need next time 😋. On my wish list, now, is staging storage for between trips (I have more formal storage for post-season and for my "other" gear (that would be used on less common trips, or so I tell myself 😂).

I find that washing bladders and collapsible bottles can be a pain. Same with drying them. We typically store our bladders and cnoc bottles in the freezer after a hike. Empty of course. Keeps them out of the way, we don’t worry about mold, and it’s quick. At the end of the season they get a wash.
I kept hearing Bob Marley singing "Is it Love" followed by the raccoons at the trash cans, in the car insurance video, "this is terrible, you gotta try it" every time Miranda asked Rainer to smell something. #best friends are THE BEST FRIENDS

Ok a suggestion for a real time video, cleaning your “Mess Kit” (Cooking gear) at Camp. I’ve tossed this out too a couple content makers and only seen one give ideas on this subject. It was Chef Corso. But different folks have different ways. Chef basically boils up any leftovers in his pot and drinks it. To me not very good if yer on a long hike in the back country. Solid poop”ok”, liquid poop “ not ok”, hurling even worse. Not all the LMNT in Maryland fix that, and “Medevacs” are expensive.
Yeah that’s the plan as much as we can from now on. Love the lav mics but sometimes they can knock into something and rub and you get some audio chaos like happened in this video. I try to monitor audio and run camera at the same time but doing that inevitably you can miss something.
