This is the second book in a series of two. 'Hadon of Ancient Opar', is the first and 'Flight to Opar' is the second. My copies, both published by Magnum Books, both say they were first published in 1977.

Oh definitely. This is totally the second book. I just pulled my copies which are both Daw books and they were definitely 1970's books.

i picked up both books just for the Roy Krenkel art honestly, Roy is a grand father of fantasy art, he was best friends with Frank Frazetta, he also influenced Frank and shaped his career, showing Frank different artists and teaching him what he knew. without Roy, Frank would just have been doing funny animal comics and not become the fantasy painter we know, those Conan paintings had input from Roy because Frank didn't read the books. Roy would also help and influence William Stout, Jeff Jones, Michael Kaluta, and Bernie Wrightson, and more.

Holy Hannah! I had no idea!
Those images are indeed awesome and when I am looking back and some of those ones in the Flight to Opar one I can see where Frank may have been influenced.
I'm going to have to look out for more of these now that I know - Thanks for the lead!

Great video. It's good getting different authors, who have the vibe of Howard, recommended. This author is a new one for me and I will keep in my list of "to be checked authors and books".

I'm definitely putting this book on my recommend list. It was a lot of fun and really did have the S&S epic feel to it. If you do find a copy and get a chance to read through it (and you like REH work already) I think you'll definitely enjoy it.

This I know nothing about, so I can't say anything.
    But here's a supportive comment! :)

What a fun video! I read the two Hadon books years ago and really had a great time with them! I might need to revisit these stories now. You briefly referenced a later author who expanded Farmers world build- Philip Paul Carey wrote 5 books that are worth the read.
    Have a great one buddy!

Yeah, this Opar book was great and I really enjoyed the feel the author threw in there. Lots of fun reading this one.
I think when I finish the first book I'm definitely going to look into buying the newer ones too as I'd like to see how the character developed further after book two (even if it is a different writer).

I disagree with the common idea that there being a fixed "unchangeable" future you know of (like in many scifi stories) means there is no free will. Knowing the outcome of all the events doesn't change that people's free decisions lead (will lead) to it. And if it involves a time traveller coming back that's all already built into to it.
I explain the idea like this: when you watch a replay of last weekend's football match do you think to yourself all these footballers have no free will, since you know the outcome of the match, they're all "destined" to win 2-3 for Barcelona, to score that goal to take that penalty, they can "never escape fate" no matter what they do? Obviously it's already happened because it's in the past in this case, but the future would be the exact same thing. You are just getting a glimpse of what will have happened, I never understood what free will has to do with it whenever there's a fixed future in a story
