      +Borpheus Maximus I'd avoid frozen microwavable meat products 1st. I've now had 2 doctors warn me about the risks of developing colorectal cancer if I don't cut that crap out of my diet. Thankfully, none of us will miss that shit all that much. But bacon? If I knew bacon would give me cancer on my 40th birthday (I'm 30 yrs old), I'd still eat the stuff on a semi-daily basis. Otherwise the terrorists win right?

      even if the meat industry is responsible for 91% of the world's deforestation, most of the greenhouse gasses, the pain and suffering of billions of animals. I dare you watch farm to fridge, and cowspracy and still say that.

      +Caleb The Fox im not trying to be mean or anything but if salad is the only vegan food that you can think of then I feel bad for you. most things people eat are from plants. and pretending that not having animal products makes life sad is just crap.
      again im not trying to be a jerk but im sick of that kind of talk

    • @sweetiepie9411
      @sweetiepie9411 8 років тому +13

      @Caleb The Fox eating plant based doesn't have to be sad. There are sooo many great recipes out there. You definitely don't have to eat salad all time or even associate with the vegan community lol. I sure as hell don't.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 8 років тому +2

      +Caleb The Fox This, but different tack.
      Everybody dies.
      Living healthily won't keep you alive. It just delays death.... if you're lucky.
      Harder thing to care about when you're aware of children dying of cancer.

    • @Vynzent
      @Vynzent 8 років тому +5

      +Kathryn Mercier As the video states, eating meat won't raise your risk by a significant amount. They are also speaking on 1 cancer.
      You might as well never go outdoors since the sun can give skin cancer, sunscreen doesn't reduce your risk to 0% after all.
      No, eating meat isn't to be compared to smoking. Smoking affects you rather quickly, exceptions are not common. On the other hand many people can live cancer free and enjoy their occasional family BBQ.
      Though Caleb is being lite on their statement, they are very right in the message. Obviously vegans don't eat just salad, that was beside the point.
      Yes it's sad when a loved one dies of anything at all, that is quite irrelevant. Might as well never drive because that gives you quite a high chance of dying, even because of other drivers.

      +Evan Neto2 Or, people will continue their own lifestyles and simply dropping meat is no going to change the way that companies process it. Look, I get that animals go through a hellish process in factories to be delivered, but honestly I am not dropping my meat because of that. Hell, if you consider what you're doing and if every suddenly did that, you'd be wasting literally TONS of meat that could be used to feed just about anyone. The key, I'd say here, is just stick with a balanced diet. Also, tell that to my family. They are both hunters and will regularly eat out at restaurants if they so choose. So, what, are they only HALF inconsiderate bastards for doing that? I like my veggies and all (brussel sprouts, asparagus, or broccoli with a bit of pepper and salt, yummy), but I'm not dropping meat because of vague moral arguments. Yes, animals can feel at a basic level. Yes, they go through mistreatment through factories. But I'm not letting it go to waste because of those arguments.

      Earth Linger Alright, and again, if someone is set on keeping their own personal diet, this is not going to do anything to change it. Also, what about the vegetarians who happen to eat fish? Are they terrible people for harming them, or do fish not count in terms of harvesting animals as food?

    • @CreativeGuyKyle
      @CreativeGuyKyle 8 років тому +1

      ***** I'm not speaking in favour of vegetarians or pescetarians, they are either ignorant or not in it for the ethics (even though veganism is supposed to be healthier than those two diets also).

    • @dizzydoom4230
      @dizzydoom4230 8 років тому +7

      Earth Linger Yeah, I know. But perhaps talking down to people is only going to do two things: piss them off and drive them AWAY from your advice. If you approach them with an informed and friendly demeanor, they may be more receptive. If not, well, you still tried. But ending your sentences in "SIMPLE!" is not it.

    Wouldn't this discovery bump down the chance of someone to develop cancer if they don't eat processed meat? And, by extension, not even increase the chance by almost 1% for those that do. I imagine the majority of average American families do eat processed meat fairly regularly, before this study was published. So the 5% chance would be including the risk from eating processed meat in the majority of people.
    So, wouldn't this study merely show that eating processed meat contributes to the 5% chance? (And, depending on the size of the population who do eat processed meat compared to those that don't, possibly incrementally increase it)

    Arent we all supposed to be stopping the global warming for our offspring by any means possible?
    Arent we supposed to be the moral animal?

      Well, apparently you arent very well read on evolutionary psychology if you dont realise that humans are, by nature, moral beings.Good reads are "Moral Origins" and "The Moral Animal"
      Wow,so many fallacies in one text.
      1.There is no humane way of death as there is no humane way of rape.If i slip a pill to a woman and she never knows of the incident does it justify rape?
      2.Naturalistic fallacy.Its so common among meateaters and homophobes, just google it.

      ***** Justice is a human concept, so its irrelevant? Logic?
      Rape and murder are definetely separate things that have nothing to do with one another cause its two ethicallly wrong actions acted upon a being without its consent, there really is no connection between them.
      "Wiped out" - is that what you call controlled genocide? Or rather one instance of a catastrophe where the population of species dies?
      "All life has the same directive, survive, thrive, and eliminate competition, period."
      Yep, like in human population.All the fat, mentally/physically ill, old,weak people (which make up a big proportion of the population) are just a side product of the "competition" you describe.Must be that.Or maybe that there is only little to no selection among the human population, who knows.

    Great video, but the argument should not be if one takes the risk of eating these products. The argument should be (shouldn't even be one in the first place) why love one animal and eat the other, to temporarily satisfy the palate at the cost of a living animal.

    Thanks for this video. An objective, unbiased, logical, scientific critique and analysis of these recent fad studies. A lot of people are advocating abstinence of meat (mainly vegans), others refuting/denying the importance of the study.
    Being healthy is all about moderation and avoiding unhealthy habits (smoking, binge-drinking/eating, reckless behaviour). Being vegan can be more beneficial than being a non-vegan but it's important to get the essential vitamins and nutrients you would have gotten from eating meat from an alternative source. Non-vegans can be equally as healthy but its important to eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, dairy products, cereals and grains (not store bought breakfast cereals) with your meat, and of course, all in moderation.

    People are acting so immature, just acknowledge the bacon is unhealthy and move on with your life, stop throwing hissy fits or make stupid statements like "everything causes cancer blah blah blah".. people aren't giving you this information for you to stop eating bacon, if you want to eat bacon then just do, but stop acting like doing research about what causes cancer is suddenly a bad thing.

      Arian hmn well everything probably does influence cancer but we aren't sure by how much, we are sure that bacon can cause cancer and having 50g per day will increase your overall risk by 1%, so if we made 100 clones of you, one of them would get cancer from bacon, while 50% would get cancer from something, it's up to you if you think reducing bacon is worth it to make yourself 1% less likely to get it, to me I think it's worth it, I've reduced processed meats to once or twice a week, some weeks I won't even have it, hopefully I can avoid it

      I just despise all the pseudoscience out there espousing veganism as the one true, best, most healthy diet for humans. It simply isn't.

    Thanks for the informative vid (as always). :) So maybe bacon won't increase your colon cancer risk by a whole lot but it's still terrible for the environment (not to mention cruel to the piggy who died for it). Not saying you have to go vegan just that we could all do with reducing the amount of meat we eat for the good of the planet. Y'know, save it for special occasions not everyday binges.

    I REALLY like how you made the distinction of the 18% chance higher than the typical 5% chance of getting cancer. It would increase the awesomeness of all things science if the base % were included in the increase or decrease statistic. So in this example, say something like "Eating X amount of processed food every day increases your chances of getting cancer from 5% to 5.9%, an 18% increase." I know it's a bit of a mouth full, but the extra information is so incredibly... well, informative.

      +lovingboarding Well, if you can keep it to only a few per year then the risks for cancer can be low. But there are other health problems related to smoking cigaretts, and cigaretts have a tendancy to make you smoke more than a few a year once you start.
