I've changed my switch, got the common leak through the switch, bought a cheap one from amazon (as I needed it quick) and around 2 years later it's still good, I'll take that one you've got spare if its not already away, just in case mine ever goes bad again
@@craigshovlin9756 that's good to know the aftermarket one has done 2 years long may it continue! The switch has already gone to someone buddy just before this video came out. Many apologise
Finally did my full service today, also changed all fluids engine gearbox ,break fluid and power steering. used 3 ltrs to give a really good flush cleaned bottle all so. used the correct green fluid but my steering is no different at all noy lighter still kind of stiff checked all pipes new switch oh well just have to live with it i guess.
There should always be a difference after what you've done. There are a number of other components that can cause this as well, old tyres on thin tread, worn track rod ends. All contribute to stiffer steering.
All replaced for MOT track rod ends tracking new tyres. Done all 3 engine mounts today too. It's been as bad as George lol. Next job is thermostat dreading it did my friends a while back. But my 8mm bolts are badly corroded on heads 😮😢
Out of interest what did you use in the ultrasonic? Im guessing it was not washing up liquid. Thanks for this video, my girl, blew her switch and as you say when it goes, it really goes. Thanks.
@@usuallyfixingtinkering yes you know your stuff - thank you, well changes fluid made a little change which is positive, tyres are fine, your prob right rack (costly nightmare) or maybe PS pump ? its orig 20 years, belt alt is fine - thanks pal ;)
The part ordered is correct for the Zetec SE motorization. But the distribution of the hydraulic system in your car does not correspond to a Focus DAW MK1 1.6 16v, which is appropriate for the piece that has arrived to you. In the mentioned distribution, this switch is embedded in the middle of a metal tube that comes out of the steering pump towards the rack.
It's picking up wear from the rack. That's normal either age and mileage. Also the fluid does break down a little and stops doing what it's supposed to. You will have heavy steering at this point.
@@usuallyfixingtinkering ok, will take another look. I've had this machine since 2004 and that's what the dealer told me it should be. As a brand new vehicle the Power steering fluid was red so I was a bit confused by the green fluid
That's new advice to me. Leverage doesn't work in many circumstances. You need an impact I.e. a blow. It's not always appropriate so I always decide om my technique for the fastener in question :)

You do exactly the same as the video, no cranking please - you'll end up in a mess and cause damage to the pump 100%. 2to 3 bottles for a thorough flush through.

You have the parts numbers and it will be the best long-term fixes to prevent future issues with your c-max! It is also possible that it may be a different switch I haven't checked!

Is there a TSB from Ford regarding CHF? I know there is one for OAT replacing older coolant. If not, do you know the year maybe? CHF is technically superior to ATF as far as I understand but the correct ATF, not some generic one, is still a proven fluid so I don't think it's too bad if you run ATF. It doesn't seem like you should though when you have a superior choice. From my (minor) research mixing them isn't good as they have different additives that don't like each other. And about parts made in Mexico. There is a reason for this. Firstly, Bosch is very established there since a long time and has several production plats. Secondly, there are US companies that design/make parts for European Fords and a lot of production has moved to Mexico, a bordering country with lots of cheap labour.
The parts manufacturing in Mexico is something I've only just heard of and your comment has confirmed about Bosch's existance over there! Mixing the fluids is what has happened to many MK1's because the fluid 195-A as quoted in the Haynes manual is ONLY for topping-up purposes, therefore owners and garages have been following this. However I am gobsmacked that no questions the use of ATF, when these cars clearly came out the factory with green CHF fluid. As stated in this video, ATF won't cause any damage (unlike not changing the fluid at all which helps kills the rack) but is not the optimum fluid to gain a true MK1 driving experience from when they were new! That is the aim of this video ultimately, to warn on preventing expensive issues with the switch and to use the intend fluid from the factory to gain the best experience of a MK1.
@@usuallyfixingtinkering Volvo did a good thing because they put either a red or green colour on the underside of the cap to tell if you should fill ATF or CHF... however something went wrong and some red caps were put on cars filled with the green stuff and the manuals were often wrong. People are still discussing what fluid is correct. To me it seems confusion arises when it comes to the Focus because Ford wasn't really clear enough that CHF was the correct original fluid with 195-A circulating everywhere.
I have to agree with that, it's very unclear and I'd advise that as well as videos like this that enthusiasts spread the info about this. Hopefully ATF usage will stop in the enthusiast world of the MK1 at least!
I would certainly love to do something like that... however my cars need to win something for me to have those credentials. Amazingly none of my cars I consider to be concourse, they tend to be used!
