  • So how did my innovative state-of-the-art TC Polytune Clip chromatic tuner hold up after 18 months? It comes at a price, but it's a great piece of innovative, high quality kit - when it's working. Mine failed after over a year of working just fine, but both TC Electronics and the dealer, (Andertons in Guildford) were very good in replacing my faulty item without fuss and very quickly. It's robust but the electronics are delicate and it has poor battery life, and the battery will fail without warning [might be better if I used high quality batteries].

Since making this video, my Snark tuner has lost a rubber foot, and is eating batteries every 8 to 10 weeks. Also, my Polytune is proving to be far more accurate. - updated April 27, 2023.
*metal clip is virtually indestructible, but it contains sensitive electronics.
** *Maybe I got a bit of special treatment due to my UA-cam channel. Andertons have a really cool channel of their own - check it out HERE:

DO I RECOMMEND? Yes, for home and studio use. It's really not something you want to chuck into a gig bag though.
Safe to use on nitrocellulose guitar headstocks? = No.
[But neither are the Snark range of clip-on tuners.]
[Since making this video earlier this month, the Andertons price for the TC Polytuner Clip has increased to £44.00 + £4.99 shipping within the UK. That's around a £10 increase since I bought mine almost 2 years ago, [which probably reflects the global recession / inflation and chip shortage than anything else to be quite honest]. However, as soon as Andertons get them in stock, they sell out really quickly. I'm glad I bought one, but I'm also very glad that I didn't pay nigh on £50 for mine.]
I have to give a nod to Andertons for their excellent after sales care. They replaced my faulty unit withy no fuss at all, (although they were aware that I was doing a long-term UA-cam product review).

Did you replace the battery on the first TC tuner when the display went off?

Yep. Changing the batteries is always going to be first stop. The challenge with these TC tuners is that they eat batteries, and to help ease battery life, they switch off after 2 minutes. I need to do a follow up video, because I've found the cheap Tiger tuner is the easiest to use at home, (although you don't want to take it to a gig because it's all too easy for it to go into violin or uke mode etc.)
The other thing of course is that there isn't a single "correct" pitch for a string - there's a load of harmonics going on, and how one strikes the string will affect pitch too. So at the end of the day, nothing can replace the human ear!

Not had time to get my bass out to check yet, and don't want to answer you without actually checking first.
