Hello guys, and welcome back to Car Obsession. I've been a passenger in a turbocharged MX-5, but believe it or not, I've NEVER driven one...until now. It's not just any ol' turbocharged Mazda MX-5 - it's MINE! Yes, that's right, I have stuck a turbo inside 'Monique', my Eunos Roadster S-Speciall II. Well I say 'I', the hard work is thanks to M-Tech Automotive, a specialist when it comes to turbocharging Mazda MX-5s, although that's not where their knowledge ends.
In this video I take Monique out on her maiden voyage and of course, give you my first impressions. The weather was far from perfect, but it certainly didn't dampen my spirits. The turbo build is rather extensive so there will be a separate video which will feature Adam from M-Tech. There will also be a POV video, providing the footage has come out OK.

That's a great little car I want to go a similar route with my 2.0 NC I'm looking for a few options looked at BBR which is quite pricy been told around 270 bhp the limiting factor will be the clutch
One thing I've learnt is that you may need more add ons than you first anticipated... I've just had to fork out for a big brake kit as my standard brakes aren't up to the job on trackdays anymore. Thanks for watching.

ITBs will sound awesome, but you won't get the same power gains and the ITB route isn't cheap either. Turbo will give you more bang for your buck. Hope this helps.

How are you getting traction on those wet roads? My turbo would be spinning it up even on Rainsport tyres.

Love the video man! I recently picked up my first turbo charged MK1 last week. Best decision I ever made! Having owned 4 normally aspirated MK1s in the past, I finally decided to pull the trigger and boy.. I am never going back! 😅 Mine has a td04-13t setup using a ME-221, 2.5" exhaust / Kraken manifold etc. It's running 250hp at the crank at 14psi. It's a 1.6 base engine too. I can reccomend turbo charging to anyone. The smile won't leave your face, and it makes what is already a great car, the best version of itself. 🥸

I added a lot of stuff on plus they supplied the injectors and turbo, so all in I'd say it was about £6,000 give or take but I'd have to dig out the invoice. Thanks for watching!
