Kamon I finally tried grafting and mating the virgin queens. I got 6 out of 9 grafts to take and 6 virgins all came back mated. Thank you so much!!! Couldn’t have done it without your knowledge. Gonna try more today.
LOL, I just can't help it! Every time a bee buzzes Laurel & the microphone on the camera I duck my head away from the side the sound is on no matter how hard I try not too.
I'm anxious to see how this beetle buster works out! Although I don't YET have bees, I am planning to have a hive within 2 years. In the mean time, I'm gleaning all the information I can from you, & other UA-cam bee keepers.
Yea had my eye on them but a little price heavy, looking forward to seeing your vid on the outcome! Glad to see you trying different products to help everyone general knowledge! Please keep doing them!
Really poor spring flow in Southern Ohio too. We got a good start in late May and early April but the cold and rains set in like it did you you. Freezes eliminated our Locust bloom. We did have a good blackberry bloom to help the colonies. Honey harvest will be half or less than normal for us. Love your common sense videos.
Please mate please, when you put queen excluder on lids ect, place lid or excluder on one corner flat then slide lid or excluder along the top of hive body that way your not squashing all the bee's on the top of hives, please just have a try.. save the bee's.. 👍. Love the videos keep them coming buddy..
Love your videos it's great that you're in a area where you can raise your own Queens I'm in Arizona and lots of mean bees and I spend a lot of money on Queens trying to keep my bee yard with good bees it's a big job
Hi. I've had a shb problem once or twice and I'm here to offer what I've done to eliminate my problems. There's a lot to cover. First I'll say that I created my own problem by not cleaning up deadouts fast enough. It got pretty ugly a couple yrs back. I cleaned up then drenched the ground everywhere a bee hive is or was. Used permethrin from farm store. I drenched the ground every week or so all summer. Point is that most ppl don't realize that they're raising small hive beetles in their yard. The next part is giving bees the right size box. A strong colony manages the shb. Strong means a dense colony capable of defending their space. Too much space turns strong to weak. Keep em strong. One more thing. Ditch the screened bottoms, use no inner covers, and use migratory outer covers. If you don't like shb...run them that way. I've tried it all. I'm in central Illinois where shb is a minor issue. Hope this helps.
This is unrelated to this video but as far as making splits, would you make a split if there are no queen cells in your hive? If so how would you make sure the new split would make a Queen?....make sure there are eggs in the split? Thank you great channel! Very informative!
Yea, you don’t get the flow, just have to feed. I’m one of the lucky ones. We don’t have to feed, but to grow fast to produce more honey, feeding is where it’s at. Of course in the fall I have to feed a few light ones, but we are very fortunate. I don’t feed regularly, but I also only look for about 100 gallons a year. But guess what? Swarms happened. Crazy year. Now, I wish I would have fed a few of the singles I had. Had an entire yard killed one year and fed like crazy to get 6 hives made into 20. And made 100 gallons that year. It’s just regional and presence best I can tell. In the south though, you don’t have to feed to keep them alive and too many beginners are taught to feed, feed, feed. Just a couple hives and some honey for friends and family, and then, no feed required. They can live if the balance of take and leave is right. Up north, well, that’s another way of life. By the way, I heard you in that sad video. Man could I relate, big time.
Sorry for asking an oddball question. How long are you supposed to keep robbing screens on your hive, once you have determined robbing has been happening?
People that don't feed aren't selling bees or honey..you feed bees to grow em, you feed when their weak, you feed before the flow to get broodnest fed up.. people that don't feed probably aren't very skilled Beekeepers, let me rephrase that, they probably have weak hives.. difference between bees in a box, and bees jamming Packed in a box..Good Video Kamon as Always
Hi Kamon I have a question about the beetle busters. I really want to try it and I think I am going to order one, I have 3 hives (all 3 are 8 frames) and I can only afford to buy 1 for now. Do you think it's possible and safe to come up with some sort of rotational schedule to rotate it out between hives so that all 3 hives benefit from it?
A little off subject here but Kamon, I have my first hive this yr and it’s doing outstanding but I just added my second box because about 8 of the 10 frames are PACKED!! Problem is, all I have in second box is plastic foundation and I’ve seen where you paint on fresh bees wax first but I don’t have any and I’m afraid my bees will swarm because they won’t hardly go up in the second box. I don’t have an excluder on either?!? Any suggestions?? Thanks so much!
@@kamonreynolds I kinda did once. 🙄 I put diatomaceous earth in my pest tray and the last time I checked it there was a bit of pretty bright orange pollen in there and...I carefully plucked it out and ate it. It was So yummy and may have had a teeny bit of d.e. on it. 🙄🤣😊
Don’t buy the white DT I know it’s food grade but is harmful when breathing or getting on your skin!but the red kind good name brand is red lake from TS I’m sure you can buy it other places,I been using it for over 25 years when I had to order it st8 from Utah, yea they sent me the white king one time and clearly says that on the bag!yea the agreed and sent me the right kind.
They don’t work. At all. I bought 4. 2 of the hives are overrun and the other 2 are on the verge. I’m going to go to every UA-cam channel that reviews them and let everyone know not to waste your money. One of the hives o had was a super strong hive and it still got over run with the beetle buster installed.

I know the filling we had frost in the middle of May my bees just didn’t put honey up we had 50 hives in North Alabama
I caught a small swarm last week and I'm feeding them to help them get population up and not have to lose everything they bring in. 👍❤🐝🐝🐝
Since it’s late in the year, NEVER let them run out of syrup. You got this!!!
Those beetle busters are so expensive.. Looking forward to your live chat tonight.

Is it better than screened bottom board with the catcher tray or they are similar in efficiency?
❤️
Question: when are your flow times normally?

How many bee hives do you have
What was that powdery substance on that board?
Who sells that beetle base board?
Bruce at Beetle buster sells them. You should be able to find them online and a distributor in Texas

Could you spell the name of that powder you used in the Base board? Many Thanks.
diatomaceous earth
diatomaceous earth
Also good to put in your house in small amounts in corners of your house for spiders and other insects.
I have a friend that eats a teaspoon of food grade diatomaceous earth every day!
I have eaten food grade from time to time.

All it takes is one beetle to slime a weak hive. They are over priced for what they kill though
