Luka's superpower is his ability to adapt. Before the rule change he had a 70 pt game and led the league in scoring, Game gets more physical, fewer fouls, Luka adapts and is still scoring, still assisting. Playing up in age as a young pro taught him to adjust to the game quickly to who he is playing with, against and the refs. He has always played fast with Slovenia because that is what they needed.
The thing is--again--you can say the exact same thing about Jokić. Every time a team *thinks* they have an answer for him, he has an answer for their answer. It's just not as noticeable with Jok as it is Luka because teams usually don't even have an answer in the first place.
agree@@1337slic3
@@1337slic3 the different is jokic have better team than luka. early season mav had problem with injury until all star break they make trade..after that team start clicking back.. remember early season kyrie not play many games. only luka carried team
No rule has changed. They can't change rules during a season.
@@1337slic3 To be fair, teams don't think they have an answer for Jokic. They just try things and fail to slow him down regardless of what they choose to do. Jokic and Luka are at the top of unguardable players right now.
1st place in points 2nd place in assists 2nd place in 3s and top 10 in steals. Cmon now.
ELITE
You forgot top guard rebounder. Out rebounding 15 teams’ centers
@@jarrettthomas4865 exactly. This feat deserves more recognition. A guard outrebounding centers, all while putting league best scoring average, assists and steals leader
@@naimas8120rebounding has sort of lost its meaning in recent years to me because nobody really boxes out and goes for boards like an actual great rebounder. Guards kind of just stand under the basket and wait for a missed shot, 90% of rebounds now are just waiting for the ball to fall in your hands although (guards specifically)
@@MM-jc7uv
So why don't they all catch 10 rebounds a game when the ball is just falling into their hands?

What luka is doing probably wont be replicated for a longggg time, he has to get it
Neither is jokic. This year is a historically difficult year to be MVP, doing something that "probably won't be replicated for a long time" is not enough
@lukakaps9548 The Mavs locker room might as well be a medical ward with how much time they've missed this year. Luka has done more with less, give that man his flowers
They won't give it to him... but I do think people will look back at these last 4 seasons and wonder how Jokic won 3 MVPs and Luka won 0. I think Jokic is a great player, and he deserves a couple MVPs, but I think Luka deserves one in that span, and so far he's not even come close.
@@monkeyassassin21 take the flowers, but you ain't getting the MVP. Deserves this and that, buddy don't trynna make this a pity award again. Although he's million times more deserving than embiid last year.
Well....Luka will likely replicate it or exceed it next year.
The difference is injuries. Mavs most played lineup just passed 100min, Nuggets got 850 min. Ofc nuggets should be higher in standings
Part of that is the trades that occurred and that the Mavs are deeper though. Starters for the nuggets have been playing a lot of high minute games. Either way it will be down to the wire to see which one of them is the MVP favorite
@@timholland2129 even before the trade deadline mavs were like a hospital with all the injuries they had to kyrie dereck lively and others
I mean they’re also just a better team
@@zaydelbash1580 +- they almost the same now, i would still give a edge to nuggets but with playoffs luka and kyrie idk, maybe we will find out soon
@@kimo9728 I am not saying Mavs didn't have injuries but that was not the only factor as they had many trades and signings that caused them to adjust their team leading to a multitude of different lineups.
Luka , has made the NBA better, not just teammates.
How?

For real
@@ludomirsteinbruck9376just look at todays game
@@akashir5580I agree. He is the face of the league
Man made a very intersting point. Jokic steps up whenever his team needs it, he's cool just having a 20 point night or less when they don't need him to score. But on the other side luka doesn't have that luxury where his team has nights where they don't need him. They need him every single night to be the BEST player on the floor. That's what makes him more valuable. If nuggets need jokic to do this or that, he'll do. That's valuable. Mavs NEED luka to be what he is EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. That's a necessity. But hey don't none of us choose. (Shrugs)
Nice emote dawg 💀
"(shrugs)" is crazy
That’s the problem. If the Mavs don’t need just shot creation they don’t have a star that can fill that hole.

High quality studio and basketball talk
AND high quality banter !
"And we back" 🔥
I agree, it's between those two.
Luka is closing the season on a slightly higher note, but Denver has been so good the whole year I think this is Jokic's trophy to lose.
Luka has a fantastic case, tho. The 50 wins mark should do wonders with the voters, if Dallas reaches it
Dal is 8th seed still? Not MVP. He's barely the best player on his own team. And they don't win as much against great teams.
@@jjqq41165th buddy and only 2 games behind the 4th seed.
5th buddy and only 2 games behind the 4th seed
@@jjqq4116 I fact checked just in case, and yes, Dallas has lost more games than they won against above .500 teams, when they had Powell, Kleber or Holmes at the 5, and Grant Williams being (reportedly) disruptive.
After the deadline, Dallas is 8-7 against teams above .500, and most of those loses were between the 5th and 10th game post-trade, when they were figuring themselves out.
I get your point (it's the same I made, Denver has been good for the entire season), but I stand by what I said. Dallas had a great resurgence and closing the season strong.
@@jjqq4116they are 5 not 8 and maybe soon 4 and luka is easily the best player on the team bro
As a Nuggets fan, I wouldnt be mad if Luka won the award. hes been balling this year.
Not a real nuggets fan
It’s called MVP, most valuable PLAYER! Why is this so hard to comprehend for some… And Luka is that guy.
Well by that logic it's Jokić.
Take Jokić off their team and they are out of the play-in. That team is built around him, and by that definition he's the most valuable.
@@dismantledbrain5910 you dont think the same is true for Luka? If anything thats EVEN MORE of the case for Luka lol
@@imnorevives It's true for both, which is why people are struggling to pick one.
It's just that the original comment framed it as if this is an exclusive case for Luka.
@@imnorevives The mavs would still have kyrie they'll adjust 😂
@@imnorevivesJokic’s on/off numbers are more than double Luka’s differential so this is a false statement and not backed up by anything
Wow people who actually watch nba basketball talking about nba basketball on espn. Feels like an alternate reality
They the goats, check their podcast out Numbers on the Board 🔥🔥🔥
Exactly what I was thinking lol
Luka's having the best season of his career and a lot of y'all once again taking it for granted. Jokic aint playing any better or different from last season yet the media wants to give him another MVP cuz they regret not doing it last year.
Nope, it's because Jokic is better.
That’s exactly it. He’s playing just as well as he did when he won the mvp. Luka is great, but he doesn’t play on both ends.
@@vietnam1978I can comfortably say jokic doesn’t play any better defence than luka let’s be honest
@@vietnam1978you just don’t watch mavs games, just say that. You are just parroting what someone else who also doesn’t actually watch the games said. Luka isn’t great on defense but he is still good. Jokic can also sit at the 5 on d and Luka is getting smaller more mobile guys which take more effort and energy to guard.
@@racimegacar Jokic might be better but the best player does not get MVP every year hence Jordan and Lebron didnt win every year. Thats how it was historically. Giving Jokic his 3rd MVP when his numbers are down from his previous years is hilarious especially since he is getting made up votes cause he didnt win it last year from somne of the voters.
Wow! Watching Kenny go from 2K rebuild videos 7 years ago when I first found him to THIS is so amazing and inspirational! Proud of him and the rest of the fellas, love to see my Chi-town fam doing BIG things!
Luka is the clear mvp 34,9,10 is insane
when he was the 7th seed the argument for jokic was more clear, but hes the 5th seed, might be 4th by the end of the season. jokic might be 2nd-3rd
Remember when kobe averaged 35 a game 05/06 season and he still didn’t win MVP? The voting system is seriously flawed
@@KidZekai i think he should have won it that year, but he was the 7th seed. him not winning it wasn't crazy ridiculous, its more who won over him
NOTB being featured on ESPN brings a tear to my eye. 🥹 I miss TOW but NOTB fire. 🔥💯 Love y’all and insanely proud of y’all fr 🐐

Luka got it. Jokic close second but come on man what Luka is doing this year is absolutely incredible
The Pod is on ESPN? What the hell! Awesome work guys.
I'm SO PROUD OF YALL. LOOK AT THESE YOUNG MEN!
Jokic or Luka are MVP.
Both have historical seasons and I think thats what should count in the end
You guys are great! Excellent analysis and discussion.
That was very enjoyable
This is the style we want more of
Both Jokic and Luka should be co-mvp. They've done co-rookie of the year before. Why not? Both are deserving.
They would like they probably
That would be great, but I think they'd just have to tie in the voting... but from what I hear, the voters have already made up their minds to give it to Jokic again.
Andre Roberson catching a stray 😂
26.8% from the free throw line in the play-offs 💀
When thinking about MVP for me I like to think of the quality of help as well. When I look at Luka vs Joker I see Joker with 2-3 all-star level or high preforming teammates vs Luka with just Kyrie and on occasion Tim. To me I think Luka is actually more valuable because of how much he has to do in order to win. I watched a highlight reel of all of his best passes and half of the passes ended up wasted because his team bricked. I feel like Luka has to literally will them a victory at times and if he isn't there they aren't looking hot unless Tim or Ky pop off. Meanwhile for the Nuggets they'll look ok with or without joker as long as they don't have a bad playing day.
As a nuggets fan without Jokic they aren’t the same because the team is not that deep. Murray can probably keep the team afloat but he is inconsistent and injury prone and the young core is lost without Jokic or Murray so I think they would fall faster than Philly did without Embiid.
Look how calm they are.
Taking their turn to talk.
These guys are so insink with each other.
I always see their shot video never new they where this good in analysis.
I have to find their channel so I can watch full clips.

Luka is the only player in nba history to have voter fatigue for an award he’s never won
That should tell you his greatness 😊
Yet his team isn’t winning
Voters fatigue for missing the playoffs last year? If anything, Luka only has a chance because of voters fatigue for Jokic
@@vietnam1978 Injuries bro. If you actually watch the mavs and don't just look at the standings, you would understand. This is the problem with only looking at the box scores and standings and not actually watching the games unfortunately

The fact that Luka is doing this with basically a whole new team around him is the tie breaker. It’s just more impressive. A year and half ago most of that team wasn’t there

jokic so good like bunch of his teammate is what i called "forgotten" player
AG, KCP, Deandre
he makes all these dude became MUCH better
Luka is having the best NBA season in the history of the league. 34 9 10 has never been done by any player in the history off the game. He's the clear MVP
I don’t think 26, 12, and 9 has been done before either they are both statistically great it is a matter of preference. Better stats for a team that has struggled throughout the or slightly less stats for a dude leading the number one team. If nuggets end up anywhere but 1st I think Luka easily gets it but if nuggets get 1st Luka needs to be 4th or 5th to be the favorite.
@@timholland2129 Mavs is the 3rd most injured team in the league. 34 is 8 points higher than 26. Big difference right there. If Mavs finish 5th, Luka should have it
So wierd, so this year Jokić should won the MVP because of last year , I hope Luka won't be in the same position next year.
It's so unfair, with everything Luka does this year, i'm speachless...
Naw it was Embidd last year. People says it should have been Jokic because of the playoffs. But regular season it was Embiid. This year it’s Luka. His numbers are better and he has had more MVP moments this year.
@@JeffreyAllen-sy2ti I see a Jokic hater here.
This year Jokic will win it because he is better than the other players this year. Last year, Jokic deserved more and Perk interrupted the voting by saying "Jokic is too white to win it". Somehow it worked.
Jokic should win because he's statistically more valuable than Luka.
You Mavs clowns lie to yourselves and then will go on believing your own lies.
you guys gotta consider the injured players on the mavs. they were killing it at the start of the season before the injuries occured. lively missed 20+, kyrie missed 20+, exum missed games, green, and kleber too. but luka kept the mavs afloat. if they had gafford and pj at the start. they would be top 3 in the west for sure. LUKA is the MVP this season. Jokic is just surrounded by better players.
Kenny bringing some actual rationality to ESPN.
This is the best thing espn has done in 10+ years
All NBA fans remember team record and Championships is a team accomplishment not individual. MVP should go to the guy with best stats and value he brings to team. Will team make playoffs without there MVP and who is th supporting cast?
Kenny is in ESPN? Wow😮😊🎉
I need a Nuggets vs Mavs this playoffs. Been waiting for it for years, gonna be an epic battle.
The west is such a close race even down to the 10/11 seed. Total wins should matter more than overall conference standing in this discussion
100. If Dallas wins 50, it should be Luka no question!
These guys know ball actually
LUKA THE DON IS MVP!!!!!!!!
Not to far into the video, but it’s got to be Luka because of injuries alone. Also the most minutes played together with a five man lineups is 135 with Luka, Kai, DJJ, PJ, and Gafford. Jokic had over 800 with his starting 5.

luka, jokic, giannis my top 3
Most Valuable Player. To me, that would be Luka. No hate on Jokic because he is the best player in the world. But when it comes down to it, he is more valuable? Luka Doncic has my vote when it comes to that category. But there's no wrong answer when choosing either player. And to add to the fact that voters might feel bad for not giving it to Jokic last year, that shouldn't have to do with anything.
🔥🔥
Luka and Jokic are my top 2 with SGA and Giannis fighting for that 3 spot but any of them could still win
Common Kenny W
This was literally convincing rather than listening to clowns in ESPN
When they’ve been healthy Dallas has been crazy good. Started season 8-2 then the injuries started. Luka carried them during that time to mid conference. They get healthy again and here they come. The 2 new guys a major factor yes but they new and major reason gafford been great is Luka.
Then add in his crazy numbers. He’s actually trying on defense now. Nobody sees it because it’s a convenient knock because he didn’t try much before.
If Russel Westbrook and James Harden won MVP then Luka should 100% win MVP, it doesn’t always go to the best player on the best team.
Saw a stat he generates the most offense in nba history 😳
I’m telling y’all right now Kenny is the future of first take 💯

People here arguing why Luka deserves it more over Joker. Guys, trust me that Joker will be probably more happy if Luka wins it then if he won it himself 😂They treat each other like brothers so its win for both of them either way and huge win for European basketball, because they are ruling the NBA right now.
You could argue Luka has carried the Mavs, because he carried them for the 2 months they didn’t have Kyrie. Their record with kyrie shows if they had him all year they would be top 2 in the West, which would have given him the MVP anyways
I think I speak for everyone when I say Kenny deserves a vote. This is one of the most educated media presences in basketball, much more educated that most on first take. He does his research, he loves the game, he's been a part of the community for a loooong time, he gives all players their props, and his opinion isn't biased. I say take away Perkins' vote and give it to Kenny

How and when did kinny get on ESPN?
You guys gotta mention that Kyrie was injured for 22-24 games this season and in the beginning of the season we always had 2-3 players always injured at a time and Luka had to carry.. just how Jokic had Murray injured when he won his first mvp and Russell didnt have a team forreal… Luka barely had his players all year
Even right now Josh Green and Lively are injured. I’m pretty sure Josh missed at least 16 or so games this season and Lively is approaching 20 if he isn’t there already.
