- Thailand’s parliament passed a same-sex marriage bill in a landslide vote on Wednesday, paving the way for the nation to become the first in Southeast Asia to recognise marriage equality. Speaking to France 24's Nadia Massih, Human Rights Watch's Asia Division Deputy Director Phil Robertson hailed the move as a “huge step forward” for equality, not just in Thailand, but the entire region.

LGBTQ is not a sin in Buddhism paradim. Some conservatives in Thailand may stilll disagree with transgenders, but overall Thai society has been open-minded for any gender
The Buddha teaches to live in reality. and always adapt to change He does not discriminate regardless of your gender. He commands you to be a good person. Bow down to receive the Lord Buddha with reverence.

Yes, I love Buddhism. It focuses on self-improvement and is one of the least judgmental religions there is.
Brunei , indonesia , Malaysia left the chat🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We don't need them in our country and don't care for their negative comments. However, they must realize that Thailand is not their own country.
The muslim majority do not support such thing.
Excellent news. Let's hope it get all the way through!
The bill has already been decided.
Will be in effect at the start of 2025.
I come from Thailand and I’m also transgender, I have a white husband I’m so glad to see our parliament pass the same-sex marriage law because we need it. nevertheless, recognition of the same-sex law is going to pass easily because we are a Buddhist country and we don't have the experience of anti-LGBTQ people. We are not the same Christian country as and Muslim country which is always resisting lgbtq people.
You are right!
The Buddha teaches to live in reality. and always adapt to change He does not discriminate regardless of your gender. He commands you to be a good person. Bow down to receive the Lord Buddha with reverence.
But its not priority there are many other problems to discuss!
Congratulations 🎉🎈
I wonder how the southern part of your country would react if this bill get passed, considering the majority of people over there are muslims?
Really nice Thailand because all people is the Human !!!
For those who might oppose this. I hope you stop thinking about the religious things.
Secularly, when the two people who love each other, work and pay taxes but when the state did not recognize thier same-sex marrige. They would not get benefits they should get as a tax payer that normally the hetero-couple could enjoy
including the tax reduction, rights to inheritance or marital property, and most importantly, imagine if your partner is in Coma and doesn't have any relatives and without the marriage recognition, you won't have any rights to let the Doctor do anything or heal your partner at all) and much more.
It is possible in Taiwan since 2019
Yes, but Taiwan isn't a Southeast Asian country.

Thailand is a tourist city. It will definitely be able to attract more foreigners.
Be careful with such words. If a country will legalize a law involving human right with such powerful controversy as this just for tourism promotion it means that that legalization needs overwhelming supports from majority of world and without or with minimalized risk. But how many LGBT people out there on earth actually? People who are lukewarm and against this are much more or you wouldn't see this law only made it just in 30 / 195 countries. If this is worth it for tourism in such easy peasy way without a risk of immense setback then what are the other counties doing now not legalizing the law.
and crime

Thailand is a tourist Country !!!!
This proves the country's leaders are thinking toward the future, not stuck in the past.
One parliament member even stressed their desire to show the world that Thailand accepts anyone regardless of any differences. Best of all, they show they care about their people, not just the religious side. It has already boosted tourism interest, and global recognition and respect.
Way to go, Thailand. You just climb the ranks amongs SE Asian countries in terms of humanitarian gesture. Congrats to the LGBTQIA+ community there.
Marriage equality 👍🏻🇹🇭🏳️🌈
Btw where is legal gender change recognition and Equal prefix?
_+_ Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🏳🌈🏳🌈🏳🌈🏳🌈🏳🌈🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆
I've been thinking of moving to Thailand for a while, hopefully which will happen soon, and I'm really glad to hear about this as everyone deserves to be themselves and equal rights. And as LGBTQ+ myself, I fully support this movement. Hopefully more countries across the world will also be able to see Thailand as setting a good example.
It's about time.

Southeast Asia .... please read
Its because thailand tourist business declines. China which is no.1 source declines as a one source of income they see legalizing same sex marriage as alternative and will bring money and tourism to the country. Its a struggle for many nations in the world to deal with economic slowdown. This is good news but also has consequences. It cN be a temporary
Solution for thailand economy
I'm from Thailand and I'm not LGBTQ. It should not be viewed as tourism aspect alone but in many aspects that those LGBTQ has not gotten their deserved benefit comparing to normal people marriage.
How do you know
@@Naiphoenix we watch the news
@@theauroralightyr i hope your right their. …. We are happy for the legalizationof gay marriage in that nation. But lets dont celebrate yet as maybe rhe government is using as an alternative.
Thailand will be westernized more, thats why they never been invaded by west
Some see this as another dark day for the institution of Marriage and the Family.
Only those who have never truly love anyone but themselves would see this as another dark day for marriage and family.
Only closet-case people are angry about this 😂 Why would the average individual care about 2 consenting adults loving each other.
Lol. What's preventing you from getting married and having a family?.

God willing in the Philippines big no no no because we are the only Christian Country in Asia 🌏
Disgusting..shame
You're the 1 who is disgusting Thailand is Buddhist majority nation not a Christian majority where you can excuse your anti same sex marriage. In Buddhism there are no suttas or Buddha's sermons that say marriage is between man and woman, because in a country where Buddhism is the majority the marriage is just a cultural and civil issue.
