@karoleqPL In the USA, lane discipline is hardly ever enforced, if someone is coming up fast, I move over for them, but you would be shocked at how many people sit in the left lane at or below the speed limit and will not move over for faster traffic (we call them left lane hogs). Great video. I'm very familiar to the route you took. I'm especially close to the latter half. Studied in Hampton University and went home weekends to Virginia Beach. And you're lucky to have only caught a 4 mile backup, It gets worse, and you're right to assume it's because of the tunnel. People get last-minute claustrophobic and creep through the tunnel.

MMBT was built as a bypass for Norfolk and Va Beach and points east. Shaved off approx 20 Miles and distributes traffic the opposite direction via the Hampton Roads Beltway. Going to NC Outer Banks, this is the preferred route as it is signed that way
I have some nice day footage (the following morning) coming but I did not get downtown Norfolk, it just didn't work out that way :( BTW that song is one of my favorites, thanks!
At the beginning where it says route 58 east Portsmouth, va, your actually in the bowers hill section of Chesapeake, not far from Portsmouth city limits but still not portsmouth
LOL Sounds like this New Port News is the Detroit of VA! Great Video! So the bridge at the beginning of your video (suspension bridge) Is that part of the Hampton Roads Bridges! We are going to Norfolk Next week and I would not mind to do all the bridges.
A lap around Hampton Roads. Passed within a mile of my home. Next time call me and I'll take you to the Surf Rider for some seafood. The HRBT is way overloaded with traffic, probably triple what it was designed to handle. Add to that tourists, truck and tunnel phobics and you have slow traffic.
Neat music on all your vids!! Next time you're in Hampton Roads, try 8-lane Mercury Blvd/4-lane James River Bridge..5 mile bridge with vertical lift span over James River. It gets ignored b/c its not on the interstate. Built in 1929(?), rebuilt-widened 1982.
Really enjoyed going over the James River Bridge the last time I was in Hampton Roads. It’s out of the way, but a nice alternative if there is a wreck on one of the bridge-tunnels or traffic backups.
It makes me wonder why the hell they ran I-40 southeast from Raleigh to Wilmington when it would have made a world more sense to send it northeast to Norfolk via US-64 and US-17. However, having a descent sized metro area with every conceivable I-x64 prefix route is unique.
Michael Vick referred to it as that "Bad Newz Kennels" I guess there are some bad dudes there or it's not a nice place to live, I never got off the highway to find out.
The speed sensation is perfect, I keep bracing for the centrifugal force that never comes! What is that, about 145mph? Man, people drive fast on the east coast. Must be a ghetto thing.

@Freewayjim its simple, when you overtake you drive on left lane, as soon as you finish overtaking u get out of the left lane. What if someone wanted to go 90-100 mph behind u? Of course he would be driving against the law but still.... Maybe I shouldnt say all the time but deffinetly at some points you've been on the left lane without a reason. However still a great video ;)
A part of Newport News is also known as Bad newz not all of Newport News has that nick name just the downtown area of the city (the area he was driving through in the video) it’s called bad newz because of the high crime in the area specifically the east end area of the city you have bad newz which down town Midtown(the mid portion of Newport News) and uptown (the area that basically borders James city county-Williamsburg)

1:40 is the exit to my house. We're moving soon to Virginia Beach, but for now we live just about 10 miles north on US 17. Awesome video :)

Oh One more thing Do you know why it was backed up for 4 miles is that typical rush hour or an Accident?
