Honestly thank you, I’ve been blessed with a Dodge Journey and started hearing this noise and was bracing for the worst. This brings me closure to my stress to know it’s not something serious. Cheers man.
iirc, when my roommate's bearings kept going bad we would also notice the vehicle slowing down at low speeds (or premature deceleration?). Hard to explain, but definitely noticed the vehicle slowing down on it's own when it wasn't supposed to. Instead of gliding like normal until putting pressure on the brake to stop. Once this gets really bad it WILL start smoking and has the potential to catch fire due to metal-on-metal friction. Which is very hard to cool down with water because it IS metal which is hot and it's hard to actually get water to the source of the heat. Not to mention, a drastic change in temperature w cold water hitting hot metal has the potential to cause even more damage (temp shift cracking of metal, etc) when this happens. My advice if it gets really bad. Don't drive it! Get it fixed asap. Better than it catching fire or causing more damage which will cost much more money.
Nice vid, but just saying. For my own experiences, most of time, some bad wheel bearing wont be heard untill certain spd, dosent matter turn right or left to isolate. Wheel bearing is very decisive, very easy to misdiagnosied with tire noises, steady bearing, intermediate cv axle support bearing. And i just realized that sometimes, a good chassis ears would be very helpful.
Absolutely! That's what I think in my Highlander - sounds like a rotary engine with a propeller. Very helpful video here, puts my mind at ease to know.

Almost 10 years later and you just help me! I couldn't figure out if it was these new tires with kind of a weird treadware or not but yesterday I didn't alignment in my tires was a weird humming thank God it doesn't sound like this lol
Thanks for the video, buddy! How much should an axle bearing replacement cost? For one of them? Also, do you ever worry the car might fall apart while you are diagnosing the problem? (Being that you're a mechanic).
This video is exactly what my car is doing right now. I thought it was a hole in my exhaust and took my car to my mechanic for that. Ironically, I actually did have a hole in my exhaust, which was fixed, but upon leaving, the sound was still there, so I went back and told them about the noise still being there. I took the car out with my mechanic, who, sure enough, figured that it was the wheel bearing. I'll actually be getting it replaced tomorrow morning.
The easyist way to determine bad wheel bearing is just jack up your car spin the wheel and touch the shock absorber plate near in the top of your tire and you can feel rough while the wheel is rotating.
This is hands down the best video demonstrating the noise associated with a bad wheel bearing. Very helpful, thank you.

You broke it down so quickly! This problem started today for me and it sounded like a growl (your exact words )thank you very much I had no idea what was going on I thought it was my engine making that noise
Indeed
Not only do bad wheel bearings make that sound but they also make a grinding spinning sound underneath the gas pedal. $40 each bearing and $160.00 for the labor because they use a special machine to press and put them in.
Have a Chevrolet avalanche and it’s making very loud noise not only it’s the wheel bearing , but it’s making noise near the gas petal. So I have to get it towed too the shop ,because of the special machine has to put them on.
@@CJMusashi87 for wheel bearings you can use a special tool it does not necessarily have to be a pressing machine.
@@CJMusashi87 The Noise by the gas pedal could be the wishbone motor mount in the bottom of the truck or you're CV axles might need replacing.
@@davidtravolta5293 Yeah it’s frustrating had just got a full brake job done two weeks ago got everything replaced. Now this happened at the wrong time start noticing when I was driving working real loud noise. I’m over it. Have to get it done though.
God bless you for making this. I have been racking my head trying to figure out what was wrong with my car.
FOR ANYONE WHO HAS THE SOUND, BUT CHANGING THE WHEEL BEARING DID NOT MAKE IT GO AWAY, MY NOW NEW MECHANIC HAS FOUND THE ANSWER TO MINE AND MAYBE IT WILL HELP SAVE YOU HUNDREDS!!! I thought for months it was my wheel bearing, other mechanics told me it was too. But I took it to another guy at a shop in a gas station self owned by himself, and he said it wasn’t that. It was my back shocks and needed new wheels they had wave like appearance and feel to them that was causing the exact noise of a wheel bearing it imitates so similar it is hard to tell! Please make sure you know what it is first DONT just go by noise!! Feel the inside wear of your tires
"I thought for months it was my wheel bearing"
Bro you drove for months with your car making that noise? Do you realize what happens when a wheel bearing fails? "It was my back shocks" you got taken for a ride m8.
Tires I can believe, shocks? Lmao get out of town.
You got played by that mechanic 😂, shocks don’t make noise and if ur tires had a wave in them you would feel it, as if ur wheels where unbalanced.
@@JarthenGreenmeadow tires you would feel the waves, There’s no way it was the tires.
Actually, it was the issue. Noise gone and everything passed inspection after and no issues since. But nice try bud 👍
It’s called doing what you hve to when you don’t have $ to fix it but need to work/get around to keep food on the table for your family. Not everyone has the luxury of paying installments or having a savings/extra cash on hand for emergencies. Life happens. Nice try trying to bring a complete stranger down though, but doesn’t work with me mate.
I was hoping I didn’t have a wheel bearing going bad,but this is exactly what my Nissan Versa sounds like,I already replaced the right rear making a woo wou sound and when I took the bearing apart I could see the inner race had a rusty spot, replacing it fixed that noise, now the right front? The growling noice got to go,thank you for the demonstration and now is confirmed.👍
does anyone feel any vibration
When braiking in high speed
Yep! as you hold tight to de steering weel i can feel some vibration.
Honestly thank you, I’ve been blessed with a Dodge Journey and started hearing this noise and was bracing for the worst. This brings me closure to my stress to know it’s not something serious. Cheers man.
When you started rocking the wheel I totally thought you were going to lose that entire assembly to the side of the road.
For my Honda Pilot, its the left front wheel. The noise is noticeable between 65 and 75 miles. Sometimes the noise is really deafening hum/ growl.
iirc, when my roommate's bearings kept going bad we would also notice the vehicle slowing down at low speeds (or premature deceleration?).
How do u fix it tho?
My prayers are for you brother
"It's very loud"
me hearing nothing but high rev engine noise:
also me looking at the rev meter standing at 2k rpm: oooooh now i get it
That noise is coming from the 33x12.5 Super Swamper Boggers you’re running 😝
Wtf that's a wheel bearing going bad?!?! I was worried mine were but there isnt anything like this
Nice vid, but just saying.
I’m in my car rn and it sounds EXACTLY like this
My suspicion is confirmed thanks to your video sir. I definitely have a bad wheel bearing in my Honda CR-V. EXACT same noise. Thank you!
great video now i know its my front left wheel hub assembly... thanks Buddy!
After watching this I find that I have the same exact problem as yourself!I thought my engine was knackered before this as I'm no mechanic!
Uzi Movie the left and right can confuse you; the left can sounds as if it's the right and the right can sounds as if it's the left.
My Silver 2004 Cayenne made the same wheel bearing noise before. It got fixed in November 2021 (thanksgiving break)

Same as in a Tacoma I drove. Like the sound from inside the cabin of a Dash-8 turboprop.
😂😂😂love it
Absolutely! That's what I think in my Highlander - sounds like a rotary engine with a propeller. Very helpful video here, puts my mind at ease to know.
would this be considered a "hummmm" I'm hearing a him sound at around 40-60 mph
Brea Lindsey my '06 Chevy Trailblazer is making a similar noise. I would describe it as a "low hum".
Is this like a bird small sound? Like a tiny sound?
@@DansCalara yes also facing this issue
It’s a love/hate relationship living in a place with awful rounds. At least I know immediately when my wheel bearings are going bad lol
Wait, thats NOT my engine? You sir, are the cure to my anxiety😅🤘
Yes I felt the same when I went to the autoshop and the guy said it was the bearing. I was driving with this noise for like 4 months
@@ConanObrien22 how much did it cost to fix?
Thank you for the video. I have a similar sound that I thought was an exhaust manifold gasket leak, until I was driving turned my steering wheel slightly to the left and noticed the the sound all but disappeared and reappeared after I straightened the steering wheel. Live and learn.
Mine is in connection with acceleration, everything else is the same though, with the exception that it only growls when I'm on the gas.
Liked and subscribed as soon as u said well if ur watching this it probably made a sound or i wouldn't post it 😂
Just had my tourque converter replaced and started hearing this sound. Im relieved to hear it could possibly just need a new wheel bearing :)
Almost 10 years later and you just help me! I couldn't figure out if it was these new tires with kind of a weird treadware or not but yesterday I didn't alignment in my tires was a weird humming thank God it doesn't sound like this lol
Very helpful exactly my problem
10 years later and still saving folks 🤙🏾💯
Most definitely need to get my wheel bearings fixed. 😂😅
Update: they’re fixed now. 🤪
$340?? I'll do it myself on my car. I ain't paying that much lol
Just had mine repaired. I described it as sounding like the old barnstormer airplanes or a motorboat 😀
Thanks for the video, buddy! How much should an axle bearing replacement cost? For one of them? Also, do you ever worry the car might fall apart while you are diagnosing the problem? (Being that you're a mechanic).
Damn no one answered after 5 years 💀
It depends on your vehicle, the wheel bearing also need to be pressed in
I had a feeling my wheel barring was going bad and this video confirms it thank you so much.
Thanks this help me know the mystery sound on my car.
If you people couldn’t hear it over his voice you should be watching hearing aid videos.
da teatorjr ppl need to explain everything then stay quiet.
Lmao true
I heard it just fine on my phone and my hearing is really bad
👍😉😆🤣👍
Good one!
men am cracking my ribs open, tell them
This helped me find out that my car's strange sound is most likely not a bad wheel bearing. So thanks!

Greetings from South Africa. We had a 1994 Ford Laser 1.3 and before we sadly sold it in 2015 it had the same noise but from the back.
Thats how my car sounds!!!
Exactly the same noise, I thought it was transmission, now I can narrow down it to the bearing. Thanks for the video!
The easyist way to determine bad wheel bearing is just jack up your car spin the wheel and touch the shock absorber plate near in the top of your tire and you can feel rough while the wheel is rotating.
God bless you! I have an oil leak and then this sound started. I was afraid I was going to blow up.
