Thank you for a thorough review, as always. Just received this pen as a Christmas gift from my husband and I can't wait to ink it up! It certainly is beautiful!
Great review, Doug! I agree with your assessment of this pen completely. My husband gave me the same model (but with a medium nib) as a gift on a recommendation from my sister. I absolutely love it. My sister got the blue Zeus model with a broad nib and it gets lots of compliments from her coworkers. Visconti also just introduced a new, affordable Opera model with this same design language. Visconti's on a roll. 😀
Doug - this was a fantastic review, you did such a great job covering the features of this pen and giving us a sense for the experience, thank you! Also - that minute and a half riff on Greek mythology was comic genius! I'm curious if this experience has impacted your opinion on Schmidt nibs at all. I recall from an older video that you weren't a fan - and you felt that the name rhymed with a good description of their quality! Thanks again Doug, I'm always excited to see what's new on your channel!
Thank you kindly! Yes! The previous shitty Schmitty’s were on Chinese pens. Obviously not touched after installation. This Visconti was tested and tuned.
I agree that this is the first Visconti pen that I would actually consider buying. If it were not for an insane flash sale from Atlas Stationers this past week, I might have purchased one. Well done, Doug.
Okay Doug, my Visconti Mirage Apollo arrived today. What a lovely pen. Hopefully this will be my last, as $160 is a little over my budget. This is truly a piece of art. Thanks. KB

Love the pen as I thought I would. Thank you Doug. I have a Gucci brown pen with a stirrup for a pen clip (no idea of the age) and I bought the Hazelnut to go in it. Beautiful warm brown colour. Now I will be buying the Mythos in brown to go with the ink. I’ve been underwhelmed by Visconti so far, so I’m glad to see something worth saving up for. Thanks very much for this.
I just ordered the new Poseidon. I tried twice before, but it sold out at the retailers I use. Before I could get it. It's my second fountain pen. My son is a big percy jackson fan, and I am still (5 years on) not allowed to see him by his mom, so I get stuff that helps me feel like he is close. And I like the gunmetal color better.
It's fun to see your excitement about acquiring a new pen that pleases you. And I approve of Visconti issuing pens down in my price range. I wonder if the posted cap rattle was your bad luck or an inherant design flaw.
Well, a fantastic in-depth examination of this gorgeous looking pen and according to your thorough examination, this new Visconti model seems to be flawless. Which was not always the case with Visconti pens. I bought last year a Van Gogh "the novel reader" and only the box and the design of the pen was the best I could discover, because the first writing experiences were a catastrophy, almost no inkflow and scratchy as a rusted nail. I was so disappointed that I didn't touch this 280 USD pen for months, finally thinking about another rework of nib and feed (one of many attempts before). I gave it again several hours of grinding, disassembly, reassembly, disasassembly etc. In the end I got a decent inkflow, just because I found out that the nib tip and the tip of the feed needed a bit more distance to each other. Now I love it but I can't forget the first very negative experiences as well. And thanks for the in-depth lecture of a part of the greek mythology. Some parts I heard and read before I remebered in a slightly different way, but I have to admit, your way of introduction greek mythology has also something and its more amusing. So, as a conclusion, this Visconti came on my wish list. Maybe my favourite brick&mortar pen dealer in Bangkok might be able to offer it, as he sells Visconti pens on a regular base. And let me close this comment with the statement that you do your reviews and videos on a very high standard.

Joost has a box you can check to have Isabelle tune the nib before it goes out. This box seems to appear on some items but not on others. It was not an option on the sale of this pen. So, no, it was like this right out of the box. I didn't test the Fine nib before I sent it back to Joost.

Those are my thoughts precisely, Regina. This is an entry-level Visconti that is very well made and writes nicely out of the box. Many of their high-end pens cannot achieve these simple goals! The Van Gogh models are hugely over-priced.
I’m going to have to throw in my panties like so many of the commenters here… another excellent review. You leave all other fountain pen reviewers eating your dust.
Visconti seems a company only pen enthusiasts can love. I often hear what I consider horror stories, but people who can afford them seem to love them. Even if they have to work on them to get them to write. 🤷♀️
I owned the Mirage. It was horrible. The nib was worthy of opening packages but nothing else. I sold it, like you. However, this Mythos sounds like a winner. I do not own any pen with a Schmidt nib but it appears to be something I would enjoy immensely. US Ng a #6 nib seems perfect. Now, all I need to do is get the money to buy one... Thats visconti for yah. Look at the shiny updated model you must buy it. This was my first visconti pen though i ordered it in the blue Zeus model. The resin on the pen is beautiful. I will admit the brown apollo pen does have a brightness that he Zeus does not with its very vibrant bronze and brown swril. However the more i look at my Zeus the more i cant help but get lost in the stormy dark blue with yellow accents mixed into the resin like a storm cloud. Also i got a broad as well and wow is it nice a juicy. It also has enough material if i ever want to get it sent away to a nib meister for customization but honestly i enjoy nib as is so far. I dont have many broad nibs but the way this one flows so wet with oxford blue (really nice mix with the zeus model) is a great writing experince. I am glad your happy with your pen :D

I have been looking at the Poseidon but wanted to be sure before taking the plunge (no pun intended). I'm now leaning towards getting it for my birthday this big -0 year. Thank you for a good review, as always. 😇🩷🙏🙌
I ordered a medium Apollo then wanted a fine. Visconti wouldn’t sell nib separately. So I ordered an Aphrodite. I have both. I find I like both. I see you got a nib, but neither G-- or A-- could get one.
Like I said in a previous vídeo of yours, Dough.. That a 7, 8 Euro pen like a Jinhao x159 breaks in a specific point, yes, that could be normal because it is a low cost pen.. But that a 200 Euro fountain pen breaks in the barrel... That happened to my Visconti Van Gogh blue..
I love the name, Mythos. Fits, it seems. Ancient Greek Etymology According to Frisk, of onomatopoeic origin, from μῡ (mū). **Mu in Japanese means almost identical - Negation... The Japanese and Korean term mu (Japanese: 無; Korean: 무) or Chinese wu (traditional Chinese: 無; simplified Chinese: 无), meaning "not have; without", is a key word in Buddhism, especially Zen traditions. ** According to Beekes there are no plausible comparanda and the word is Pre-Greek. Others compare it to Proto-Slavic *myslь (“idea, thought”), as if via Proto-Indo-European *muHdʰ-. Ernštedt (1953: 55-57) argues that it derived from Egyptian mdt (“word, speech, affair”). If so, a cognate to Coptic ⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ (moute). Possibly related to Sanskrit मिथ्या (mithyā, “false, spurious, illusory”), from Proto-Indo-European *mēwdʰ- (“to complain or care about something”). μῦθος • (mûthos) m (genitive μῡ́θου); second declension something said: word, speech, conversation public speech (mostly in plural) talk, conversation advice, counsel, command, order, promise the subject of a speech or talk a resolve, purpose, design, plan saying, proverb the talk of men, rumor, report, message tale, story, narrative, tale, legend, myth a professed work of fiction, fable, such as those of Aesop the plot of a tragedy or comedy

I have been looking at the Poseidon but wanted to be sure before taking the plunge (no pun intended). I thought they, being an Italian company, would have named the pens after the Roman Pantheon names but when you described the columns etc I got it, so no Neptune only Poseidon. I'm now leaning towards getting it for my birthday this big -0 year. Thank you for a good review, as always. 😇🩷🙏🙌
Thank you so much, @sushanart! The only thing I dislike about the Mythos is the way the cap rattles when posted.
The only pen of mine that I post is my Kaweco Sport. 😁
WOW ONLY 159 DOLLLARS THATS AMAZING FOR THIS Pen !!!
IKR??
I ordered a medium Apollo then wanted a fine. Visconti wouldn’t sell nib separately. So I ordered an Aphrodite. I have both. I find I like both. I see you got a nib, but neither G-- or A-- could get one.
I got mine from the retailer because they shipped the wrong nib.
Visconti is still out of my budget, might as well admire them
Another free pen from Appelboom with their expensive stroopwaffels!😆
That's an expensive cookie!
Zeus is BLUE not black
Am I the only one who finds pens under 129mm uncomfortable?
Obsessive Polishing Disorder... Wow.... lol
Rather fragile resin with the Van Gogh series I think.
@@InkquiringMinds Yes, and I didn't expect that... 🙄🤔
I love the name, Mythos. Fits, it seems.
Ancient Greek
Etymology
According to Frisk, of onomatopoeic origin, from μῡ (mū).
**Mu in Japanese means almost identical - Negation... Sanskrit pointing to a shared source? Negation not being negative - I liken the image to Carl Jung's: "Modern man stands at the edge of a void" It is potential, without limiting beliefs... A narrative story that empowers, synchronicity to Jung. Phronesis to the Greek**. The Japanese and Korean term mu (Japanese: 無; Korean: 무) or Chinese wu (traditional Chinese: 無; simplified Chinese: 无), meaning "not have; without", is a key word in Buddhism, especially Zen traditions. **
According to Beekes there are no plausible comparanda and the word is Pre-Greek.
