I keep seeing a Mosaico in Hawaii blues. Little bars of blue with a very intentional brickwork pattern. My heart palpitates a little every time it shows on a UA-cam vid.😍😊
Thank you for another informative and thorough review! I find the side-by-side comparisons (capped and uncapped) very helpful :) There's another Leonardo model that wasn't mentioned -- the Messenger, which came out in 2020. It's still available on the company's official site, but you have to find it using their search function.
Makes sense, I guess, but I thought I’d mention it as there are a small handful left on the company’s site. I saw one at a pen club meeting and the person that owned it said it was made to be a more economical model. It was thinner than the MZ/Furore models.
My Leonardo Mosaico Hawaii will always be my most personal pen as it was my first fountain pen as an adult after a long hiatus from school days. Lots of his models are absolute beauties, I would have loved an ebonite he had in pink, green and blue but that one has silver hardwear and I love gold.
In Leonardos' website, their special editions have a model called the Fioritura. Looks like another brand with the fancy cap band but with a different section shape.....the ebonite barolo looks luscious!
I will have to watch this video several times (my brain is slow to digest) however, thank you very much for finally clearing up the differences in all the types of pens that Leonardo makes.
I'm lucky to own a Leonardo Art Deco. It is quite a big pen, making my Conid Kingsize even seem small, but the ebonite makes it not overly heavy. Absolute delight of a pen.
I have so many Leonardo pens that I couldn’t bear to part with that my favorite depends more on my mood for the day given they all write like a smooth and wet dream. So it’s more a matter of which nib I feel like using. For looks, my blue Art Deco has the edge.
Hey Doug, great overview of the Leo line. Don’t have one yet. I went a little nuts with pas gas last year with penbbs, jinhau and moonman. I do need a pen display of some sort for my desk. Got any recommendations? As for a Leo, I am tending towards an MZ of some denomination.
That ink color is perfect with that pen color. 😍 And the pen is gorgeous, even though amber is not my fave. This one could change one's mind. And the unboxing was so exciting.
I have some serious Leonardo envy here. I have been eyeing these pens for a while and planned to take the dive last fountain pen day. But I held myself back because at the time, I felt I was acquiring pens too fast. For months I wanted the Gaida green one because it reminds me of my birthstone. It goes in and out of stock and I guess i was too undecided on nib size. Plus there are so many lovely acrylics to choose from. I also love that Blue Hawaii. Which one should be my first? Lol😂. Lately I have been saying next sale I will go for it, whichever acrylic is available. Plus Goldspot and Endless Pens have some awesome special exclusives.
@@InkquiringMindsI had to come back and report. I got the Blue Hawaii MZ and oh my, I am in love. It’s currently inked with Diamine Marine. Absolutely gorgeous!
Hi..I have that exact same pen…same nib and trim. I love it. I had to take a break from buying Leonardo’s. LOL. They are all just so gorgeous..I’m trying to find a nice display box for my desk but I have not yet found one I like, so they are all hiding in a pen case. 😂
I have a Supernova with the same trim but a different color. It is one of my favorites. I am not a fan of the step as I find it sharp, but that pen could grow teeth and bite me every time I use it, and I wouldn't care. It's a gem.
That really is a beautiful material. Of all my Leo's, my favorite is a Furore Grande with a medium steel nib and ebonite feed in Blue Positano. I love the shape of the pen plus it's easily the best writer of the 4 Leo's I currently own. Unfortunately, writing performance has been inconsistent with the various models. I also like the MZG model as well as the MZG 2.0, which I have in the Sea Anemone finish that is spectacular to behold. I don't have any of the regular MZ's or Furore's yet. I do like broad nibs, but the two I have from this brand have a stubbish quality that is not my favorite. If I want a stub, that's what I'll buy, otherwise I prefer them to remain round. I agree that the Furore is underrated and wish they'd focus on releasing more iterations in that model. It's sleek and streamlined and looks really cool, and this from someone who tends to avoid cigar shaped pens unless they really grab me. I love writing with mine because it works so damn well. It's a great brand and they release a lot of beautiful resins. Thanks for the review, Doug!
I have what I call the MZG 1.5. It has the barrel grip section but no ink window. I do miss the window as I have run out of ink mid-sentence a few times but the pen is glorious, nonetheless. I also have a Furore. It came with a steel nib and I did get a separate gold nib. I will seriously look at the Supernova. The resin is gorgeous.
Doug, do you still have that Visconti Mirage Mythos Apollo pen? If yes, how would you compare it to these Leonardo pens? I love that caramel color for fountain pens. They're in the same general price range. Thanks again
Great video Doug. I have a Leonardo Momento Grande in Sea Anemone with Fine nib, a Special Edition Momento with yellow/black ebonite and a Leonardo flex nib, and Leonardo Spaghetti Sand with architect nib. All are very nice looking pens but my favorite writer is a toss up between the flex and architect nib. All steel nibs and they are smooth. I consider these reasonably price for the quality. Not sure the extra cost for gold is worth it. I have 4 Pelikan 800’s, MB 149 and the Shaffer Legacy 2 - all gold nibs. How many do you need? But I am close to pulling trigger on a Supernova. Maybe sell the Sea Anemone first. Be well!
Just picked up my first Leonardo. An MZG Mosaico in Baobab (steel medium). I have big hands and it’s an absolute dream! Already looking for my next. Any recommendations?
Furore all the way! I like the Aquapietra with Rose Gold nib option. If it's the girth, length and weight of PenBBS 308, I can use it for writing. For sketching, it has to be slim Japanese pocket pen with gold nib, 13g.
I only have two versions - MZ in Blue Hawaii after watching a certain channel and MZG in Sand. My favourite is the MZG as I prefer the slightly larger pen. I doubt that I will only have two for long though!
If you could swap that nib out for what the Plinth Roman Legionaries put on the end of their javelins, you’d have a true weapon. Feedback might be a bit scratchy. Seriously though, that’s a lovely pen. I’ve been using a Diplomat blue demonstrator Nexus with a broad nib, my pen of the year.
Leonardo is now my favorite pen brand, with the purchase of the MZ Nebulosa Laguna. How do you account for the resin in your new pen, being the same as in the Chinese pens? Are the Chinese buying Italian made resin? I'd be seriously disappointed if I found out that Leonardo has outsourced the production of some of their pens.
Every time Doug said "unscrewable" I had a double take as the first time I thought "surely you should be able to remove it". 🤣 I would describe the finish as "Warm Honey".
I agree with you that Leonardo should offer the specialty nib grinds separately. But maybe it's limited stock (like Esterbrook's specialty grinds) so there's no excess to offer? Anyway, thank you for the wonderful review. And wow, that is quite a collection of your "Amber is a Cat" pens, indeed! it's almost like looking into the sun...so bright and warm, I just can't look away!
Doug, one could get the impression you find this pen superb. I think it would be hard to view it any other way. I count my pennies and they just don’t add up. I will remain attached to my P 20. Congratulations and enjoy.
There is no question Leonardo is a great line of pens. The best, in my humble opinion, is whichever one somebody would like to gift me 😊
LOL

I didn't mention it because it is no longer part of the line-up and I never held or wrote with one. They looked interesting.

You can’t go wrong with any model of Leonardo Pens, but will always enjoy the Momento Zero!
I agree 100%, @Javi_C!
Great reveiw, Doug. Goldspot pens has a sale on some Leonardos. I would love the Leonardo Momento Zero, $159 . Not sure which color, yet. Thanks. KB
In Leonardos' website, their special editions have a model called the Fioritura. Looks like another brand with the fancy cap band but with a different section shape.....the ebonite barolo looks luscious!
They are doing a lot of funky, one-off, designs with their special editions.
I will have to watch this video several times (my brain is slow to digest) however, thank you very much for finally clearing up the differences in all the types of pens that Leonardo makes.
Awesome Doug. My favorite Leonardo is a special edition Supernove Grande. Love it!
Thanks Don!
I'm lucky to own a Leonardo Art Deco. It is quite a big pen, making my Conid Kingsize even seem small, but the ebonite makes it not overly heavy. Absolute delight of a pen.
Nice pen. If Asvine wouldn’t be making very similar pen of same quality for one sixth of Leonardo price I would definitely consider it.

Great review - as always. Gopher guts - lmao. My favourite is the MZG 2.0 btw. 😊
I’m amazed how your handwriting is so crisp looking with a broad nib. You must have a light touch.
Thank you @cd3694. That is much appreciated!
Damn it. Now I regret not jumping on the sales for a Supernova. This year though, for sure… Awesome review, Doug.
Thank you, @oscarmedina1597!
I have the Momento Zero in Jade on back order at Apple Boom. Hopefully it comes soon
Pura Anthracite Satin with a steel fine nib is my favourite.

I would snap up the Haida when you see it. You can always replace the nib later if you wish. The steel nib units are reasonably priced Jowo.

hands down I like the Leonardo momento magico the best no step down beautiful finish and its the smoothest broad nib in my collection :)
Right on

The blue Mz without a doubt! Enjoyed the review. 👍
Good choice!

I do have the Mythos and I like it very much. It doesn't compare to the Leonardos at all. The finish just isn't in the same league.
Great video Doug. I have a Leonardo Momento Grande in Sea Anemone with Fine nib, a Special Edition Momento with yellow/black ebonite and a Leonardo flex nib, and Leonardo Spaghetti Sand with architect nib. The pens are fine, specially the new ones with better grip section. The Diamine ink is fantastic to say the least.

@@InkquiringMinds Probably a Leo, but I'd be happy to explore some other Italian brands, as well.

I can only think that it is a classic acrylic formula that is made and available from several sources.

Fair enough!
I just ordered one of these! Waiting for it to arrive. I already have a Furore, but wanted the slightly larger grip on the P20!
Leonardo is my favorite brand. I have far too many in my collection (24)…. 😂
I want one in the Calico Koi material; don't care Too much about the model, but that step-down does look really unpleasant.
It all depends on your grip.
