there should be balance. If it's been months since you've made measurable progress while there are people out there already speaking the language then it's time to reevaluate your methods and techniques and give it some consious thought
Steve your method is working for me! I’m exposing myself to new words, and when I hear them, I recognize them! Not always the meaning, but recognize them so that counts for something 🥳
Sir, if you were a chair I would say you are the one that rocks. Thank you for the support and insight you’ve given me on my language acquisition journey.
Hello Sir, I 've followed you for three years; and I think you are one of the best youtubers in order to learn english; you are a great polyglot and your tips are the best, thanks for your great work.
Hearing this is really nice, I've always spent days trying to memorize words from small texts for no reason and it never helped me, just made me sad when I couldn't remember all of them. Thanks for the advice, Mr. Kauffman!
Thank you so much for your advices!! It really reassures me knowing that learning a language is a process, and I just need to put a little effort everyday. Because from time to times I get overwhelmed by the amount of words, grammatical estructures, etc that i still need to learn.
Using the workout example, I guess it depends on your personality and goals; because when o train, I track many objective variables to ensure I’m getting better at a certain rate (weekly, monthly, and yearly). So what this tells me is that you can try memorizing vocabulary, or you don’t have to; either way, do what’s enjoyable for you. And of course, do it enough times, because the way I look at it: no matter which method you use, you need enough repetition for it to be effective - just like working out.
I learned English by learning like a baby. I completely transcending from my native language content to English content. I tried to enjoy the content not translate everything. After years when I didn't understand some words I would sometimes search up synonyms, the meaning or images on google. Translating and studying is bad for you *WHEN LEARNING A LANGUAGE* as you will have to translate in your brain, recall words every single time and you will also waste and spend hours of your life just studying. It's important to *learn like a baby*
I ultimately agree, but I do like to memorize at least 2000 words in a target language and then I stop memorizing and practice through reading and speaking.
@@kudus9235the problem is that most people since the school are forced to memorised words from f.e. English language if it’s their second one. The same happens in schools with other languages. Majority of learners hate memorizing but think it’s a must.
I think starting from scratch, vocabulary exercises are good, just to get traction, but past a certain level put the anki deck down and watch and listen to some shows and music. Go read a book. Reading I promise you will elevate your language learning ten fold.
That's true, but now language is not only something that gives me fun and I don't consider it as a hobby anymore coz now I need to learn English to get my future magister degree. I started to learn it through watching and analyzing videos and following the Oxford vocabulary list and list of phrases and idioms with my new English buddy) Don't really know if it is going to work out. Maybe it is better to find a teacher even though I have not much money 🤔 Don't even know why I'm sharing this information
Ohhh you are so reaaaaall Your words your advices everything , you are yourself ,there is nothing about gaining followers , getting more LIKEs....thanks stevee
Actually needed to hear this today, super stuck at the moment when trying to learn a bunch of vocab that sounds similar, however been loving the grammar point development of the language. Thanks Steve!
The brain is engaged in data-driven learning. It speaks using the information stored in its memory. So memorizing a wide range of expressions, you can speakes and understand effectively. @@johanfanelli9836 I personally use Anki a lot, but I also think that it's an easily sold idea that the same strategies work for everyone and that those that do the best have the best strategies. I would recommend trying a variety of options, but also stay confident and know that it is possible, and that there exists a method out there for you! Stay persistent!
If you listen to the same content 10 times, words will stick to your mind. Not all of them naturally, but some for sure! I’m learning my 6th language at the moment 😅😊
It's really true I guess. But then you need more time for studying, isn't? My advice is just to use the new word you have heard first time to let it stick.
In Brazil where I teach at a private English school, teachers must make students aware of their learning. I never do it! 😂😂😂😂😂 Learning will happen the more interested you are, not the more aware!
@@raneemadel4049 I’m learning Russian at a University. Not sure what disappointment you feel. I also learned German at a University. There are no forbidden methods for learning. But not everyone chooses a university - and not every university program uses the best methods for language learning. Naturally university classes are not enough by themselves.
Great! The best way to make progress is not to worry about about making progress.
I tried that, at least I think. Didn't work too well. I need to make more conscious effort to study
Yes:)

Yeah right.
What a wise man, I aspire to be like you Mr. Kauffman!
For five years, I am with you everyday. You get better all the time. Thanks for your humor, kindness and wisdom.

can u tell us how its work for u? what languages that u learn?
I just learned a new word: kettlebell. Thanks, Steve!
Lol same 😂
I'm an English native and I just learned it too. 😂😂😂
You’re totally right .
I would love a go through of a daily routine vlog

This is refreshing to hear and a huge relief. 😅

Really what are the languages
Woah :O impressive!
That was the realest metaphor I've ever heard. That really helps put it into perspective
The exercise analogy is a good one, Steve. Thanks!

I enjoy memorizing vocabulary
Me too. I don't know why people demonize this. I think a problem is not in the fact that you try to memorize words, but what way you choose to do it.

You make me happy sir, what a World IS that, with people telling craps to us,making learning,a birden.....
Words don’t stick in my memory that’s why I use Anki (not the same name rip off app, the original). You look very lean and in good shape, well done.
there's a rip off anki??

You still need to learn 1000-3000 words. Flash cards is the best for that. Plus enjoy practicing it
Who NEEDS to learn?
Native English speakers don't need any of that.
Those who are learning English need A LOT MORE.

Great short! I have my hsk 1 mandarin test in month and have found your channel very interesting

How do I enjoy the language if I don't possess a vocabulary?
I should not panic
May Allah guide you and all people to Islam
Ameen
Would you say it’s good to have a bit of both? Let’s say 70% of learning as you say and 30% using specific methods to memorize phrases?
“That’s my advice” and I can say that’s my personal experience which corroborates your advice
How does it take if I want to learn English because it's my major at University.. I feel disappointed
