@@falmark187 The look on the commissioner's face was priceless when he found out that it wasn't the criminal's apartment but Columbo's newly rented place. Checkmate!
That´s the least of my worries. What is a HUGE plot hole is that an expert policeman would not be able to tell an autopsy would immediately disclose the presence of soap in the lungs!
LA police commissioners aren’t cops, it’s a political office. I forget if this particular commissioner used to be a cop, but if so he would’ve been off the force for years by this point.
All-time favorite of the entire series. So many great ones especially in the first few seasons but this for me is #1. Basically a flawless episode with a brilliant ending. Except for the carpet in the bathroom which isn't brilliant that's tacky..
One of the joys of watching Columbo is seeing the hideous designs of the 70s. 😄 Also, unlike today, a lot of the scenes were obviously shot inside real buildings, 'cause you can sometimes see the ceilings or the real world outside the windows.
This episode always bothered me because I felt so bad for the wife. Imagine thinking you were in a wonderful relationship, even having your spouse come in and seem to lovingly state how much of a joy your marriage to him is, only to have him suddenly and out of the blue hold your head under water. Her death would have taken longer in real life than they portrayed here on TV, and I can only imagine the horrified, confused, and anguished thoughts going through her head in those last moments.
@@kevino4372 Not necessarily. All he had to do was hold her down, not squeeze. He doesn't need to put in much effort. She unfortunately doesn't have much traction underwater in a slippery bathtub.
If you put $4 million in a wall safe in 1972 and took it out in 2022, it'd still be worth $4 million. If you're wondering what a comparable amount would be in 2022, in terms of buying power adjusted for inflation, that would be $28,401,600.
They went for 60 minutes but they had to condense them to under 10 minutes by taking out unnecessary and repetitive content because the old TVs couldn’t hold anything over 10 minutes. The mondo Columbus shows are very short always less than 10 minutes because of the primitive mondo TVs they had back then. The old old old TVs could not hold more than 10 minutes of show as they used CRT Catholic Ray Tubs technology and non Dylan Mulvaney CLT or Claw Technology. No harm no fowl. They tried Dylan Mulvaney to shorten the shows advertising and tried to produce a non racist TV set with Motorola involvement with flypaper control and Dylan Mulvaney CEO. Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney abandoned by Bud Lights and faced too much bullying and transphobia. The proof is in the pudding. It’s all part of the non racist discovering process
1:36 “I thought you left..” will never fail to crack me up 😂🤣. Great episode overall.
Suddenly he wasn't in such a hurry.
What a great episode this was. The Police commissioner played a great role. The ending was vintage Columbo!!!
Yes the ending of this episode was definitely one of Columbo’s best gotcha moments.
@@falmark187 The look on the commissioner's face was priceless when he found out that it wasn't the criminal's apartment but Columbo's newly rented place. Checkmate!
Our marriage has been a source of constant joy!!!
This was one of the most satisfying arrests on columbo. The commissioner was a a-hole.
What a great episode, Columbo catching the police commissioner and creating one of the most creative traps in the series.
That has to be the quickest drowning I have ever seen on T.V. 3.5 seconds

Try Death Hits the Jackpot.
That commissioner was like a mob boss.
There’s a scene in which the commissioner’s wife looks EXACTLY like Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie
I was gonna say this LOL
Drowned in 5 seconds LOL!
😂
One of the most unsympathetic villains on all of Columbo. Tremendous acting by Richard Kiley.
My favorite episode !
Apparently, one dies the moment their head is immersed in water. Or, alternatively, when walking in heavy rain.
"Make sure to get behind the ears!"
A brilliant episode this 👏

Is the man who plays the commissioner Richard Kiley?
Yes.
Love columbo 👍💕💕💕
i cant believe he did that to his own wife, how terrible
I mean. This happens quite often sadly.
Colombo was on the right track.
But it was for the second murder.
Takin the Commissioner down.😅😅😅😅
That greedy commissioner, killing his wife for her money, doesn't stand a chance with Lieutenant Columbo on the case!!! 👍🙂👍
Drowned in 30 seconds or less
Quickest drowning 🙄

The orange chairs were in Lee Grant's law office in 1971.
I love this. Too bad I can't watch The Rockford Files with his dad Rocky, in the old trailer in Malibu beach...oh the 70's 🙄🥳🥳🥳
I'd like to watch it from the beginning to the end.

Columbo would solve all murders if he was now in the LAPD
Could you see this in Blue Bloods we’re Columbo walks to Tom Sellicks office?
"You spoke to my wife?"..........oh well.
Columbo is a live and well on youtube
Why did people have carpets in their bathrooms? 🤣

That way if you took a leak and missed the toilet, the carpet could soak up the urine

In an earlier episode, he played a cop.
Got a promotion.
the title of the video seems to be mocking or laughing at the murder
