Thank you, I was having great trouble with the dead eyes on my Victory, After using your method it is much easier job and looks much better. The standard of workmanship on your model is outstanding.
Thank you Donnie. I've been trying to solder the wire to close around the deadeye with no success. This method looks like what I have been looking for.
Thanks for your nice explaination with good video recording. The only thing that i'll not doing as like as you is to using every piece of wire for just one deadeye ☺i'll use it for two or even for three deadeye. Again thank you
Hey Donnie: I’m building 1:70 Montane’s and I don’t like the models method for dead eyes with the rods and plates for mounting to hull. Too difficult and looks sloppy. Would it be a crime to use chain like you are . I really like the look too. And where did you find the correct chain. Thanks brother
Hi John, first the chain came with my OcCre Trinidad Kit. However, you can buy chain links from Model Expo here modelexpo-online.com/Modeling-Chain you will see that the links are designated as a number of links per mm or inch.. If you scroll down the page, you will see MANTUA chain that is already blackened for you. One of these sizes should represent as close to your scale as possible. I hope this helps. I also suggest perhaps registering at my website forum Ships of Scale at www.shipsofscale.com and there, you will find me and others willing to help if you need it.
Donnie, nice video. How would you attach a flat bar instead of a chain? I need to attach a flat bar to a model and can not figure out how to do it. Thank you in advance. CJG
Hello Carlos, Thank you for your question. First, the Deadeye needs one wrap around it with heavy gauge brass wire or similar maybe .5mm - this depends on the size of the Deadeyes of course. Then the Deadeye will pass through a hole on the "channel'. Basically, the Deadeye end that passes through the channel needs to have a "hook' fashioned on the end. Your "flat bar" will then have a hole on each end. Just attach the bar with hole through the hook on deadeye. The other end of bar will then attach to the HULL. usually a few wales down. I will respond again with perhaps a drawing for you to assist in this. Can you give me more info on the ship that you are building? Contact me donnie(at)shipsofscale(dot)com
John, Thanks for taking the time to make the post - I am very sorry that I have not responded in time. That is DREMEL tool vise. I got that at local Lowes. Really not that expensive either. If I remember it was something less than $20.
Wish I had found this video before I did my dead eyes. Will have to use it on my next boat. Luckily all my boats are wargamming peices so overall looks are not important for mine. However If I had seen this, before Itr would have made the ones I'm working one alot nicer.
Thank you, I used you method and it worked great for me, I am building a model and I am about that stage, please see my videos here in youtube churumbel52 I named my ship "Josephine" it is not a kit I build from scratch
Wow - Your Josephine is incredible. I wish that you would register at www.shipsofscale.com/phpBB3/ and start a build log there. Thank you for showing me this - great work ! Donnie D. Ships of Scale @ 2013
