Great Job, Mayor L! Thank you and well done. Act today so our descendants dont have to apologize for us 128 years from now! Perfect vision. Thank you.
You should apologise us the President of USA.
O'Bidens ancestors or KKK friends are probably involved in the lynching & I have 56 first cousins, 1/3 to 1/2 who are at least 1/2 Irish, including my sisters children one of who is my "Godchild".
Fear and prejudice are a dangerous combination
Fear and ignorance cause prejudice. Knowledge is power!
Never act in fear, but in faith.
We cannot change history, but we can acknowledge and grow from it...
In a city full of history, the lynching was one of the most impactful historical events both in New Orleans and in Sicily. For almost a century afterwards a slur against Sicilians in New Orleans was the saying, "Who killa da chief?" In Italy the press covered the event very thoroughly at the time and sought an and got reparations from the US government for survivors back in Sicily. At the time, Sicily was barely integrated into Sicily and the efforts of the Italian government and press to seek and get redress had a big impact in Sicily and perhaps for the first time, Sicilians truly felt more like they were Italians after all.
Shout out to this guy speaking Italian, he mentioned that African Americans in particular were impacted by the racism and prejudice.
According to a report of lynchings in the US by state and race between 1882-1969 56 whites were lynched, 335 blacks for the same time period. The apology above is a ling time coming but is a step to right past wrongs. Black folk lost more than 5 times as many in the state of Louisiana from lynching in that time period, don't forget them!
Never forget.
