I'll be 40 next month. Well, as a huge Alien fan since my youngest childhood, it seems that this 40th Anniversary figure is the perfect gift that I am giving myself.
Terrific review! Filming it the way you have allows us to see the real size of the figure and box, which other reviewers often skip over in favour of extreme close-ups. Good to see the comparison with the older 2008 version, which really shows off the improved paint scheme on the 40th anniversary release. Nice work! :)
Those tubes are called Dorsal Tubes and are thought to be used for breathing in the the lore. The spikes thing is just called a spine or Dorsal Spine iirc. Leave the spine out to get the head to look up more.
The dorsal tubes - so I was lead to believe, can expel the 'secreted resin' that aliens use to build nests and they can also use like a spider weaves silk in a web, to spring down and catch prey. I always thought they were just bones that protrude from the body, like the high shoulder blades.

This is prolly the best NECA Alien issue to-date & the very cool retro box makes it more appealing. I don't own any 1/4 scale figs but this thing is pretty amazing. Nice job on the review as very detailed with some great close-ups and fun to watch too as you've got some great presentation skills. I'll definitely come back to watch more of your reviews.

Great review. I’m sure I remember seeing these when they were first released in forbidden planet for a lot cheaper than they’re being sold for now. Or maybe I’m thinking of the Aliens ‘86 version? Always regretted not getting one. I think I might have to pick myself up one of these.
@@skigz5360 When your figure joints are very tight or stiff, you can always use a blow dryer (hair dryer) or hot water to loosen them up. I prefer the blow dryer (hair dryer).
I've had this figure for years and it's a wonderful figure. It's really easy to apply paint mods and diorama parts to these figures and make them rival the several thousand dollar statues from XM and Sideshow.
I believe that the unique protruberance on the Xenomorph's back is an infrared sensitive organ. Also, they have quadrophonic hearing because of ears at the front and rear of their long cranium, alowing them to precisely pinpoint their prey even without eyes.
The four ‘exhaust pipes’ are usually referred to as “dorsal tubes” (or spines). Not sure about the flat, tapered one above them, that’s lined top and bottom with spines, is called?
I know I’m late to the party but awesome review. This is the only 1/4 scale I haven’t owned yet. I always keep my eyes open for deals on eBay but the 1/4 scales are going up and up in price.

I owned the original 2008 version (problematic ankle joints caused me to accidentally break it) and replaced it with the (darker coloured) 2015 release (available in two variations). The 2019 re-reissue looks like the same (superior) sculpt as the 2015 Big Chap. This new 40th anniversary edition has better detailing and paint application for the skull and translucent carapace, compared to the 2015 release. A beautiful creature design. I wish I had got this new 2019 figure too.
You are right their was a 2015/16 version 1/4 Big chap was released , I have it, and wish I would of waited for this one :( oh well, I buy this one just for the detail head dome. Thanks man for the review!
Awesome figure and awesome review as usual. I only have one figure in this scale and that’s Dutch from Predator. So this will probably be my second one. I heard from NECA on their Instagram page that the 7 inch one is pushed back till January unfortunately, but better late then never. Well keep up the great work my friend.

Hey there! Which stands are you using to prop them up? This is my first action figure, and I don't know if I should be expect it to be able to stand on its own. I haven't been successful in finding a pose which will last for more than a few hours, but yeah, don't know what the 'norm' is for these types of models... Any insight you can share?
I wouldn't recommend letting the figure stand on its own. I used Kaiser doll stands, "16-24" The product code is 3075. The stands are available at various places like Collecting Warehouse, Amazon, eBay, and etc. They have larger sizes too, even with more girth.
so I have the 2008 also and was debating to get this one. My 2008 BIG CHAP fell apart. The torso broke where it articulates, and the left left leg never really fit. The peg is too long and the socket is too wide. Does this one seem to be put together the same way with ball/socket connected legs and arms?
Religious moms got his vintage older brother, banned, back during the birth of this movie. Original big chaps are rare and expensive. Necas still affordable. Like $139. Hopefully I have room. I’m still unboxing first of the quarter stuff.cuz he’s dope. Ps stand’s are expensive! If you display these near a wall or ceiling. . . I’d suggest just secure him to the wall. Google the proper way to this, because drywall could crumble under certain pressure or your figures , weight, could pull out the mount. Leaving a nasty hole. Drywall can be repaired

I agree that they shouldn't make the eyelets as exposed... it always takes away a bit of the fear factor with the big chap.

Can it actually bend the knees good & do a crouch position?. Or would it break if you messed with it too much?
It can do those kind of movements, but I would recommend just being very careful with it.
