The beginning of the end was not the deposition of Erich Honecker. It was either Gorbachev coming to power in 1985, or the start of strikes by the Solidarity trade union in Gdańsk in Poland in 1981.

What is the point of putting German subtitles when, German is being spoken on the video. I thought the whole point of having subtitles was to translate into other Languages,
it is not at all an uncommon or strange thing to have subtitles in the same language as the audio

The subtitles were originally placed with German speakers in mind. Or for that matter, any German speaker who couldn't hear it or didn't have the audio.
But it was not made for people of other languages to understand.
Could AP or anybody provide the proper translation rather than the UA-cam one? I'm trying my best to learn German but it isn't that proficient.

It was important to promote German language and therefore Russian. The world has to catch up.
The text of the GDR hymn was referring to Germany united fatherland. And so it came.

That's how they made the disastrous decision to support a lot of the Nazis legislation in the Reichstag in the early 1930s: they decided the Nazis were the final stage of capitalism, and therefore helping them enact their legislation would hasten the "inevitable" (in their eyes) demise of capitalism. Of course the communists ended up paying for this dumbfuckery with their lives once the Nazis were in full control.

@@victorseger6044 Even putting aside the fact that the trials were purely political and punitive, he only left after charges were dropped due to his failing health. His family were in Chile so he wanted to be with them in the end
