I love this song! In 1966 I was the oboist in my high school band and orchestra. Pop music didn't feature oboes...until Sweet Talkin' Guy. Whenever that interlude with the cellos played on the radio I would get goose bumps when the oboe played the sweet counter melody. Happened to me again right now! Thanks so much gerry Hogan!
Same! There has been nothing on the pop scene any better than it was from 1957-1963. The Beatles changed it dramatically, not at first (1963-65), but they did starting in 1966, along with the psychedelic genre starting that year.
60s black American female group records are absolutely untouchable. I'm English, but my passion for years has been collecting this kind of music on the original American labels. How I would dearly love to have lived in the States in the 60s in somewhere like Detroit or Chicago. The thing that strikes me is the fact that a lot of black groups (and, indeed, solo artistes) were overlooked because there were so many great groups out there that many of them never really got the breaks, due in part to the huge commercial success of labels like Motown, which, to its credit, was superb (the Marvelettes are my favourite group of all time). I take my hat off the the USA for deeply enriching my life and giving the world the greatest music genre of all time!
1966-I was 14 years old. Great music, burgers, shakes- Now it's lousy music and kale salads, although I admit eating healthily is a lot easier now and is the way to go. I was blessed to have my childhood in the 50's and 60's. It's getting mighty strange out there now.
The melodies of these ‘60s girl group songs are so sophisticated, almost like melodies you’d find in classical music. I am a millennial and I am truly grateful these songs exist and that I was lucky enough to have parents that always had the oldies station on when I was growing up.
I just LOVE the harmonies in this song , wow just stunning 4 part harmonies , love the sweet talking x 5 then "GUY " bit ,makes my hairs on the back of my neck stand up , fabulous !
Speaking as a musician of 70 years, I have to say that The Chiffons were by far the most musical of all the girl groups. I wouldn't be surprised if they could read and write music, The harmonies on this are quite complex, especially at the end of the bridge: "Why do I love you like I do...?"

This was at the height of the great girl group era. The Chiffons, the Ronnettes, The Shirelles, the Supremes, the Shangri-Las, the Marvelettes, the Dixie Cups, the Crystals, the Angels, the Vandellas, the Toys, the Pony Tails, the Exciters, the Honey Bees etc; etc; Great sounds from the best decade of music ever.
So so wonderful. It really was the best time -- I adored the girl groups. When I went to NYC a million years ago,for fun I started a girl group and covered alot of these. I called us The Psuedo Sisters. It was a blast -- it broke up pretty quickly tho, to my sorrow, but had fun while it lasted.
what is realllly sad, and just finished reading a book about the girl group era, very few of them ever made any money off their music. several of the lead singers for someof the groups actually had great music training before they recorded but the bad treatment they received after they joined groups and got riped off made them give up music all together
Appleholic, sorry to inform you that by 1966, the great girl group era was over. It ended in 1964. BTW, the Honeybees was the made-up group name for the 3 women on "Gilligan's Island" singing, "You Need Us" and who competed with "The Mosquitos" that invaded the island. One of the funniest G.I. episodes! And here it is: ua-cam.com/video/Sz7gr4hSkNQ/v-deo.html
The soap opera Guiding Light played this song as background to a touch football game.Positive good fun. I nearly fell off my chair and then I cried like a baby.I'm 75 a this song brings everything back..God bless the 60's,the good and the bad!
I came from Detroit and the Motown was the greatest. The harmonies from this group is great. Not like this crap/rap. It was a more innocent time, yes I know there was turmoil but this music deserves to be heard. I have turned my grandchildren onto to this and the history that goes with it, It's history in the making!!
These Girls plus my heart, they were black girls from Australia Aborigines native Australians they beat all the odds of becoming famous that were made by them as hits. Be sure to watch the movie One Fine Day shares her success story with us. God bless them wherever they are today I don't even know really they're all relatives of one another I do know that they overcame every obstacle that a person can and even did tours in Vietnam for American soldiers
What a great record, right in the middle of the British Invasion the Chiffons bring out a super slick record like this, and the only other artists I know of who recorded on Dion's label Laurie.
I'm very, proud, of the respect they had for each other, to stay together, its so easy to disband, a group...the chiffons looked disciplined,...they are a fine example,..of Teamwork!!

This is a typical song we lucky Sixties teens got to sample first hand. ...Every week another fantastic record would roll off the presses and it would debut on AM radio..one after the other after the other. All great stuff. The songs, to make it, had to have a real pretty melody, good lyrics, people who could carry a tune, a great manager, great production, top notch musicians and lots of luck. The tunes were orchestrated by and large by older men, studio musicians of the Forties and Fifties who still wore suits to the recording studio and who had an authentic resume in music. Some came from symphony orchestras. Unlike today's....uh......."music". Take me back, please!
I love this! This was one of the last songs of the early 60s "girl group" genre, and those were some of the best, most well crafted rock and roll songs ever!

Always reminds me of my best friend Jacki [since we were 3 years old] Always said one day we would share a flat together when we grew up and when we were 17 we did and on the first morning I woke up and put on the radio and this was playing so I ran into Jacki's room and started jumping up and down on her bed singing this at the top of my voice Jacki woke up and did the same Happy Days ! Jacki died when she was 36 from breast cancer and I miss my best bud every day and always when I hear this track
Hey Jan That's so sad. This music is part of the happiest part of my life - so many highs. I saw the Ronetted and the Crystals live back in the day. Glad it brings happy memories to you - God bless xx
I love this songs, they always make me smile, even though I don´t link them to a special memory, it does to you Jan. It would be horrible for me to loose my beloved best friend, I used to call her best bud, but she likes folk so, best folk haha. You are blessed for having had the honor to meet her and share golden moments with her. I´m happy for you :)

This was the first record I heard when at 15 years old I waked into my first dance hall and this beautiful girl looked at me and smiled. I thought she was far too good looking for me and turned away in fear of being rebuffed. A tap came on my shoulder and it was her. We spent all night together and kissed a lot. I walked her home and then caught a bus home with the scent of her perfume all over my clothes. Somehow I never saw her again, I got caught up with other stuff. I often think where she is when I hear this record. I am 64 years old now. 1969!!!!!!!! God what god years. I feel so sad when I look around now. Maybe one day I can go back.
Saw them perform in Revere Beach at a place called The Beach Ball when I was around 16. I just loved them and they were awesome. Also saw and loved The Shirelles
