I love this melody. It is very simple and yet the quartet seems to enjoy playing it so much.

Ive been playing it on fiddle and hardingfele for 20 years now, so I can tell you... it is very meditative to play. It sounds simple and still, Norwegian fiddle tunes are exhilarating to physically play! Simple sounding, but the challenge comes in the evocative nature. When to play louder or softer, when to do drones, trills, without overpowering the subtleties.
If you haven't already... Look up Annbjørg Lien and her live version from the concert album "Aliens Alive" - it's even better than her original album version, on 'Felefeber' (fiddle fever). She recorded it originally in Amajor/F#minor. I'm assuming her fiddle was tuned AEAE. But in the concert, and 99% of the time, she tunes-up her fiddle to BEBF#. Really only possible on the smaller frame of the Hardanger. So she plays it in Emajor/C#min. It's even better!!
