Oof. I had told myself to wait until my old Litter Robot 3 dies before replacing it. But the noise difference is significant... now I'm considering it again haha
Thank you for mentioning the odor with the LR3! I have asked for advice from Whiskers, other users, etc. and they always act like I’m crazy. The LR3 smells worse than an open box of litter. My cats are great about burying so that makes a difference. I had virtually no odor in my house before I got the LR3, but that thing is stinky. When I asked for advice, all I ever got back was I must not be cleaning it, or I’m using the wrong litter or whatever. It’s clear when you have a drawer full of cat waste that doesn’t seal, it’s going to stink, and no expensive little carbon filter in front of an air vent is going to make a difference. I was offended that LR made it sound like a “housekeeping” issue when I knew darn well that my regular old boxes scooped once a day were less stinky I now have a LR4, but since it’s sitting next to my old LR3 I can’t say for sure it’s less stinky, but just looking at the construction of the drawer it probably is. My LR3 was getting less and less reliable and I was getting ready to go on a trip. I had previously left a regular litter box out and told my cat sitter she only needed to scoop the regular box if she found the LR3 stuck upside down so the cats couldn’t use it. Now I have the two auto boxes and the LR4 has only gotten stuck once that I can recall-well I still set up a traditional box but there were no problems on the three days I was gone. But I know last night at some point the 3 had a “bonnet removed” error and while I still don’t know why that keeps happening (contacted support, they replaced the bonnet, the LR itself has a cover that keeps the cat from messing with it…don’t know why it keeps happening), at least it’s stuck so that the cats can still use it so I’ll fix it later.
I agree regarding the odour control of the LR3, it's far from good. If you put a odour neutraliser in the litter box it helps a bit but still not perfect. I had all the issues you mention with LR3. LR4 has been much more reliable for me so far.
The bonnet removed issue I had with the two tabs. Cleaned them and bridged with a small piece of wire and taped on. The bonnet doesn't seem to keep a good connection over time on the l3. No error code since modifying it to always read its on
Bonnet removed on LR3 is driving me nuts. I now keep it off and turn it on via app one cycle a day because the 1st cycle never errors for me. The smell is also bad despite cleaning. I think it’s time to upgrade.
I've had my LR3 for going on 5 years now and it also has its issues. It will falsely show an error (orange blinking) or report as full. I've had to replace the metal sensor contacts at around year 3 from corrosion.
I've not had any of those errors, no. Just checked the link, it seems to be working, are you in the US? as the link currently only offers a discount for US purchases.
Bonnet removed happened a lot for me but I had forgotten to seat the tabs at the back first before clipping the front in place. Seems to work better now
With the liter robot 3 I have to reset it every time it cycles and I often get the blinking fast yellow light. Does liter robot 4 have any of these types of problems?
That’s the pinch fault detect. Take the globe off and clean around where the litter drops into the drawer. There’s a bit of plastic on the left side that if you wiggle a bit seems to fix it for me
As mentioned any good clumping litter that is fine grain. I use Sanicat litter here in the UK as it's on offer at Costco so just buy it in bulk. I did a video on the best litter for LR here ua-cam.com/video/xmYVs1oazHU/v-deo.html&lc=UgwJ5krRmHiWLO-CYXN4AaABAg
So many questions - I just heard a lot of ‘seems’, ‘slightly’ - I just needed more numbers and actual features - actual comparisons. The biggest question - is there $250 difference between the two?
What other features were you looking for? In my opinion, yes it is worth the EXTRA $250, is the unit worth $750? Probably not, however if you’ve committed to paying $500+ then get the LR4 (if budget allows). It’s quieter, more reliable and has better odor control and more modern tech.
I’m hoping the 4 is way better then the 3 I have a 2 and a 3 connect 2 still running strong but my cats don’t always activate it because of my floor. Had two 3’s both have broken down and it all adds up to that damn tray thinking it’s full refusing to cycle
It was some Coshida Litter from Aldi, I wouldn’t recommend it though, I was just trialling it when I filmed this video. I have a video coming out soon with the best litter for the litter robot, keep an eye out for it.

Yes, there's a massive difference in sound alone. It is much more reliable too, in my experience.

Totally agree. The LR3 has serious odor problems.

If your getting smells the seals need replacing

I have had the litter robot 4 for about 3 years now and it just broke. It was nothing but trouble from day one now I am buying the 3 connect instead
It hasn’t been out 3 years yet, it was only launched in 2022. But still most people find it more reliable than LR3. What issues you had?
How does the reliability stack up? Our LR3 connect frequently thinks it is full when the bin is far from it.
It’s been 100% reliable so far, not had a single issue with it (long may it continue). I’ll keep you updated and document any issues.
I've had my LR3 for going on 5 years now and it also has its issues. It will falsely show an error (orange blinking) or report as full. I've had to replace the metal sensor contacts at around year 3 from corrosion.
I think the deeper drawer helps keep it not read as full with litter piling up as a mound
My 4 did the same thing recently then it broke
If it's anything like a roomba, there's a light beam that shines through the bin to determine if it's "full", make sure that's clean.
Thank you, this has been helpful
You’re welcome, thanks for watching.
great review! very helpful thankyou!
Thanks, I’m glad you found it helpful. I’ll be uploading some more videos in the near future, documenting my long term experience with it.
Do you get the "bonnet is removed" or the "pinch trigger" error as often with the V4 as you do with the V3? Also, your $50 off link isn't working
I've not had any of those errors, no. Just checked the link, it seems to be working, are you in the US? as the link currently only offers a discount for US purchases.
Bonnet removed happened a lot for me but I had forgotten to seat the tabs at the back first before clipping the front in place. Seems to work better now
The part that goes on the front to prevent litter from getting out, my cats kept knocking it off so I can’t use it 😩
Ahh that's annoying. Was it a firm fit? Mine would take some knocking off as it's a tight fit.
With the liter robot 3 I have to reset it every time it cycles and I often get the blinking fast yellow light. Does liter robot 4 have any of these types of problems?
No blinking yellow light issue, it's much more reliable in my own experience.
That’s the pinch fault detect. Take the globe off and clean around where the litter drops into the drawer. There’s a bit of plastic on the left side that if you wiggle a bit seems to fix it for me
Do I have to press buttons to get it to operate or is that cycle automated?
The cycle is automated, you can set the delay between 3 and 30 minutes. I have mine set at 7 minutes.
Helpful! Thanks a lot!
You’re welcome, glad you found it helpful. I have a 2 month review video coming out soon.
thanks for this video
Our pleasure!
What kinds of litters can I use with these?
Any good clumping litter...I prefer the Arm&Hammer SLIDE litter..it doens't get stuck to the insides like other litters do

What litter are you using with LR4 in the video? It's not clay and I don't want to use clay litter so your answer will help me. Thanks.
It was some corn litter, I was trialing it at the time but unfortunately it was no good. The particles were too thick for it to sift properly.
@@persiancatcorner
The meowant litter box has large sifting holes, I’d bet the corn works good with that

did u have any issues with soiled litter leaking between the gaps in LR4
No, I’ve not experienced that issue. Which gaps is it getting down?
I’m hoping the 4 is way better then the 3 I have a 2 and a 3 connect 2 still running strong but my cats don’t always activate it because of my floor. Had two 3’s both have broken down and it all adds up to that damn tray thinking it’s full refusing to cycle
LR4 is much better than the previous versions. It isn't perfect as none of them are but it's an upgrade on the previous generations.
What litter is it you are using there?
It was some Coshida Litter from Aldi, I wouldn’t recommend it though, I was just trialling it when I filmed this video. I have a video coming out soon with the best litter for the litter robot, keep an eye out for it.
