*scans and studies an elephant* 🙂 *moment later* “how shotgun shell-proof is an elephant’s head?” 😬 haha love the content man keep cooking! base look epic too
Every time I come to one of your videos I get this unshakable feeling that I've heard your voice before. I just cant for the life of me remember where from.
@@dannyrothko Do you have another youtube channel? To me you sound very much like someone who used to do documentary style videos. Good videos with really nice visuals too. Could just be my ears playing tricks on me though.
I thought I remembered reading someplace that you can't do a 1-hit harvest on the cave entrance wall, I could be wrong. I've also had the armor and skill bonus for a while and never had it hit, but have it hit often when mining elsewhere. I was thinking of starting my Styx open world playthrough soon, and looking at around G5 for the base. Some good deep mines, water, and transit to the forest biome close by. Looking forward to the next video, I'm really enjoying the series, thanks!
Yes I learned that after posting, very unfortunate! I remember getting one of those in the past and it felt amazing. Glad to hear you're jumping into styx, it's a lot of fun!
As always, a great episode! 🤠👍 In addition to the tip about the beacons on the electric drills that I told you about in the last episode, I would like to say that a great alternative is to use your Buffalo to do your mining runs, since it has more space in the inventory, in addition to being able to increase its movement speed with skills/food like you do with your Moa. Regarding your base, I think that placing the CONT4CT Device on top of your base would be excellent and a simple hidden ladder in the back would give access to it.
Thanks as always for watching! I do have my leveled buffalo in the space station so I could potentially bring it down. They are much nicer to use now that you can ride them directly instead of having to hope they follow. I like the idea of putting the device on the very top as well!
Just finished watching this series over the past week. Awesome stuff man! Everything looks so nice. Been using ur playthrough as a reference, even though I'm only on Olympus ATM it's really helped a lot thank u. I found that if u crouch when ur digging dirt u get a little bit more per dig 😊
Great vid as always Danny! Just my opinion but maybe you could keep the wood floors on the top and use concrete ramps to hide them from the exterior. Not sure if it would work and I know you set your heart on brutalist lol
Thanks as always for watching! I end up going with the concrete look, I think you'll like the style. The whole brutalist look goes really well with the concrete furniture.
Nice. That mission was a pain for me back in the day, with stone building pieces and barely enough tech level to get it done, no workshop gear, except the cool suit if you got the game early enough. I made two trips on foot, got the base floor then building, and benches in, most of the tower and some of the small stuff, was heavily encumbered each trip up, then my buffalo was finally tamed and ready, with cart, to haul the rest up, and finish it out the base still stands, but did strip the benches, generator, lights and braziers. Oh and the glass penthouse on top, for my greenhouse, at least to build some of my greenhouse. I go back from time to time, to repair it. Thinking about fully refitting it, with walls and spikes, then hedge hogs to protect the spikes, maybe grow some brambles all around it, except for a zig zag path too. But that’ll be after I finish the main leg of my Icarus super highway, progress is slow, as working on many different things in the game, and they keep adding stuff for me make and do, haha. Plus being limited by work. Have figured out, that with concrete beams and floors, and the pillar foundations you can span 8 floors total without anything collapsing. One above each pillar on each end, 6 inbetween. So, next step is to finish out the raised, built in the wall part, to a good spot, it covers a ton of distance, but I need to make it easily traverse able by buffalo with cart. Then since that main mid point one is ready, connect my upper raised base, to that…gonna be so much more concrete…a stupid amount. I seriously need to find a couple stone deposits and like 5 more silica ones that are easy to get at. And build at least one more electric stone bench, many iron cabinets for holding all the wood I need to make sticks and sap. Another iron and maybe coal deposit too, to keep up with steel production. I’m slowly building up components to do all that. Along with trying to power level 3 other characters, one knife based, the other shotgun, 3rd is spear based. My main is bow/crossbow all the way. Top tier for weapons and arrows/bolts. All titanium tools as the best you can get on Styx or Olympus.
My main base is on the long, raised rock part in the upper left hand corner of I7, just below and left of the “Y” in the river, my concrete highway is so far the eastern 1/3 of H7, almost to H9 block, granted a lot is still the raised rock portions and mainly passable by foot, as is easier at the moment than with an animal, but am working on paving over the natural rock portions and widening/railings so animals can traverse with zero issues. It’s on the eastern portion of the cliff in those zones. I plan on going up the massive slope about mid G9 continuing southeast, then to the bottom of the point of cliff in mid H 10, of that raised shelf. As right where that raised section and cliff point meet, I have a stop over base for waiting out storms, or if I don’t feel like traveling at night. I also want to see if I can span the whole canyon, from there to F 9/ F 10…at that height. No idea of concrete will allow me. But I will try to connect those areas, with no shenanigans, just super highway. Sadly that’s a long ways off.
Sounds like a massive undertaking for such a big highway and base! I want to get a bunch of bases out on this Styx map as well, places for pit stops and for taking care of all the missions.
The stone brick is crazy expensive, but rather nice. Also there's a simple mod that lets you unlock all talents by giving you some more points each time you level, so you don't need multiple characters with different builds. My head canon justification is that if you're down there for months or years you'll eventually become pretty good at everything if you're on your own. Mounts tend to have fewer issues with ramps by the way rather than stairs, though annoyingly you can't put railings on ramps. My OCD means I need to make a 3 wide ramp/bridge when doing this so the middle is a ramp and the outsides are stairs so I can fit the railings lol.
I think that is a fine way to play as well if you prefer. I wanted to keep it as vanilla as possible for this series though. For the stairs I occasionally use free-placement to make them line up perfectly, but with a huge staircase like this it would be a nightmare 😆
also when mining and chopping tree, melee attack speed food buffs help so much! you swing so much faster! Dried stringy meat and string jerky food buffs stack
Now i've completed to watch your Veteran Series and i enjoy it very much! Maybe it would look mazing if you put on the floor of your Penthouse Glas? Something crazy🙂
Thanks so much! In this new file, since my first "fresh start" episode I have 215 hours. Before I started this series I had about 150 hours on another playthrough.
Would it be possible to recreate what you did on the bottom floor in the penthouse? It might change exactly where the bedroom is level wise but you laid a concrete foundation with a wooden floor on top of it to hide the wires. Im wondering if you could lay concrete foundation under the floor of the penthouse so from underneath it looks concrete but when youre actually in the room it has wooden flooring. Idk if its possible.. just a thought.
The foundations are only really effective if they are attached directly to the ground, otherwise they are just super heavy pieces that could cost a lot of stability.
i havent tested it yet but does discount stone in the habitaion talent tree work on stone brick? if it does you can craft the building pieces on your alt character
*scans and studies an elephant* 🙂

Haha, thank you for watching!
The rock walls no longer have a chance to instant pop. Which is a bummer. Love the content! Keep up the good work!
Ahh, that is a bummer. I remember doing that once and it felt awesome.
a chicken coop would fit down there too, just an amazing looking base you got going on, it just too cool
I'm definitely thinking about bringing down a chicken or two!
Every time I come to one of your videos I get this unshakable feeling that I've heard your voice before. I just cant for the life of me remember where from.
Hmm I'm not sure haha. If you figure it out let me know.

Absolutely addicted to your channel, especially your Icarus playthroughs. Thank you so much for the content!! This base is amazing!!
Thank you for watching! Glad you're enjoying the content so much.
The tower kinda looks like a blender! Lol i love it!
Hahaha, thank you!
Wow! Super massive! Awesome, as usual. I can't wait to see the second desert base.
It's HUGE! It took a ton of time off-camera to gather all the mats haha.

@dannyrothko heck yeah I did

Loved the episode. Thanks for the great content. Hey are ya planning on running some lights up your long stair case or braziers?
I was thinking about maybe using the braziers we have leftover. Geode lamps might look pretty awesome as well.
I'm absolutely love your base look. Keep up the good work. Love the series !!!
So glad you like it! It's a ton of work to get all the materials 😆
also when mining and chopping tree, melee attack speed food buffs help so much! you swing so much faster! Dried stringy meat and string jerky food buffs stack
That's a great idea, next time I'm doing a ton of mining I'm bringing that jerky along

Thanks so much for watching! Theres more to come! I end up going with the concrete floors and really like that look, very modern brutalist looking.
Incredible base! Enjoyed as usual!
Thanks for watching as always! The base is HUGE haha, it took so long to get the materials.
Great episode, as usual! Awesome build
Thanks as always for watching! There's more to come with the build.
Wrap around balcony!
I think they made stone brick stupid expensive is because they recently added stone respawning.
Also they removed the ability to one shot cave walls.
Ahh, that's unfortunate, I didn't know they removed that. Fortunately in the latest update they became a bit cheaper to make.
you should try running thru woods at that speed on Tu-2, its really trippy
He is a blast anywhere. Unfortunately the max speed is only in the desert with that desert-specific speed buff food though
Outside plant decorations affected by weather now.
Yes, not sure I like that change. My precious gorse flowers can't be used as decorations anymore
Wow, amazing, how many hours have you been playing Icarus

Put the mission Tower on top of the roof it's gonna look cool 😅
I like that idea a lot!
@@dannyrothko thanks ☺️
How does all the plain glass not break in bad weather? All my glass walls break immediately.
The new glass update came out after this episode, it used to let you "temper" regular glass but now you have to craft the reinforced glass pieces.
@dannyrothko ohhh that's dissapointing! The old glass is much nicer.
-25% stone brick pieces cost in most recent change log.
Yeeeeees a much needed change 😆
i havent tested it yet but does discount stone in the habitaion talent tree work on stone brick? if it does you can craft the building pieces on your alt character
I actually haven't tested it either but I'm assuming it does. Fortunately with the latest update they're much cheaper now
