Yesterday I had an appointment with my doctor. I got up earlier than I like to and got on the road. Come to find out Route 84 was blocked by a terrible accident. Trailer trucks were backed up as far as the Mass, line. I decided to go a rural way to bypass the mess, but everyone else decided to do the same thing. Traffic got backed up on the country road. Finally I got there. The receptionist said "you don't have an appointment today" I said, "yes I do. I received a reminder from your office on the phone. Nevertheless, they insisted I did not have an appointment. So I went out to my car. On the way to my car my hearing aide dropped off my ear and I looked everywhere for it. Finally I walked back into the doctor's office to see if my hearing aide was around there. The receptionist said "oh good, I'm glad you came back because you do have an appointment after all. " She said that "one of the girls had given my appointment to someone else so that was the mix-up."
So I got to see the doctor. It was a useless trip because all he said was to drink more water. Bullcrap, (pardon me)
After I got back home and took off my clothes I found the hearing aide. It had slid down the inside of my shirt. So it all ended well. Take care of yourself!

Unbelievable Mr. Tom. I am sorry. This is what our healthcare has become. The problems are, a shortage of qualified doctors, census exploding, Insurance companies are derelict, poor procedural organization, poorly trained ancillary staff, lack of care for seniors , shortage of RN’s versus using medical technicians. I could go on and on as that is how broken our healthcare system is. I will avoid commenting on other areas contributing to this decline. Kudos to you Tom for remaining civil during your unfortunate experience. My prayers are with you, and you will be a victor in Jesus name…..God Bless…😇🙏

I am green with envy over your blueberry bushes. I have squirrels, and I'm sure you do also. But do they really let you have any of them? My squirrels fight me tooth and nail for the star fruit and the loquats. Now I have mulberries on the tree, and they're into that as well! I have a peach tree (Florida peach tree) with six peaches on it, and I also have some squirrel repellent. Guess who's going to use it tomorrow? Black cats are my favorite. I have one also, and her name is Lily. She's my heart.
What a drive you had. I hate traffic, and getting on an interstate leaves me with PTSD. My hands sweat, and I get very shaky. I'll do about 65 but that's tops. People drive like maniacs, and I'd just as soon stay home. I hope the biopsy comes out OK. That must be a bit stressful too. I am one that avoids doctors at every opportunity, but this last time I had pneumonia and thought it was a really bad cold. I let it go too long.
Your birds were giving you a lot of competition in making the video. You should have just handed them the mike. Beautiful songbirds!

Oh for the love of Pete!:( Remaining patient was the best way to handle it. When I have to do something like that, I go armed with my bag of toys to keep me occupied because never know if it will be fast or an hours long ordeal. The other thing I learned the hard way long ago was to have a printed copy ready. The orders, email or whatever. Every breath they take in your direction, demand it in writing. Appointment card, orders whatever you need. If they don't hand you an actual piece of paper and you can't print it out, take a picture with your phone. Sheesh. That is exactly why I'm so extremely slow to get anything done. My first line of defense is I just freeze in place until I can't put it off any longer. Had to deal with my Internet company, waited until the last day yesterday to get it done. Was on the phone for over two hours with the different departments before it was settled. Yep, always takes me a day or so to recover so I'm not one to jump back in the next day with the same problem or a different problem without a break. Continued prayers and wishing you smooth sailing for your preop!

George Washme (my Jeep) died saving my life a couple of years ago with an ice issue. I don't miss the traffic or opening my mouth as the only question that is dumb is the one not asked. Over the past couple of years the medical world has reminded me of the cartoon 'The Jetsons' only with a medical twist. God Bless you Mr Tom!

I live in the capitol city of Oklahoma and have found interstate travel is no faster than backroads and honestly, the speeds of 70 mph make me nervous so there’s that. The receptionist said some explanation and I went and sat back down and then they had me waiting so long I finally got up and said "I can't hold it much longer." Then they called me next and the xray technician was yelling at me and nasty. That should never be accepted in a medical facility. I decided from now on I will go to the hospital for the tests instead of their center. If it was a mammogram- ok I can wait but my bladder was going to break! Hello Dobie :) I am so sorry to hear about your experience - doubly sorry because of how you were treated with the urologist. I'm a retired provider (family practice) and I can tell you it was either the doc or his medical assistant who dropped the ball. That never should have happened. I practiced in a very rural area and I knew my patients came from many miles away; most were elderly, making the trip harder. I made a point of getting everything done while they were right there in the exam room - no loose ends. I understand what you are saying about not losing your cool, but I would encourage you to call before you go next time, making sure all the t's are crossed and the i's dotted ... and if you wait anywhere more than 15 minutes - check in again and again. I would also encourage you to speak with a 'customer service' person (I don't know what they call it by you) and you can express your concerns. This is a service that you are paying for. You should be considered #1. Hoping all goes well for you.

In theory your opinion has a lot of merit. But the truth is our medical system is the pits! It is getting worse all the time. I don't know why. Maybe they are trying to do too much and that's the reason for all these snafoos. I just hope they are more efficient in the operating room.

@@grandmajane2593 I agree - and that is why I left/retired. Working 12-14 hrs a day and the job is never done - and they expect more. I've been in the medical arena since the 70s and it has changed dramatically. I would agree that it is getting worse - and it will get far worse in the very near future. That said, I was thinking the same thing --- I hope all goes well with the biopsy!!

I love all the blue berries, Mr Tom, I need to learn how to pack my patience, so to speak. And these days more than ever, it's always hurry up and then wait, wait ,wait when dealing with the doctor. We wish you the best and say hi to the kitty crew as well.

God bless you with safe travels and clear sailing the rest of the way. I have some scary health concerns that were discovered incidentaly. I'll see the pulmonologist May 6. Prayers appreciated. xo

As you have found out, we do not have a health care system anymore. What we have is a none caring, not enough healthcare workers. There is so much incompetence that i feel many will die. Where I live, every system is going down. Traffic sucks, grocery stores, and schools. People are just rude. You did well to keep your cool. This country needs some new leaders and of course, God.

What a day you had, Mr. Tom! Glad things all worked out. In our rural county, waiting a long time is very common with a medical visit especially since Covid gutted the medical system here. We now plan on waiting at least an hour to be seen. Keeping you in my thoughts and hoping for the best for you. Hello to the Kitty Crew!

I'm also 68 years old. And I'm so fortunate that I got off that bus and stood on those yellow footprints for Marine Boot Camp in 1975. I don't know how I'd afford health care if not for VA Hospital. And Minneapolis VA Hosp. is one of the best. I see you are victim of our Health Care system that's very overcrowded and under-staffed? Hopefully your next trip is more successful.

My ex. used to go to the West Haven Veterans Hospital (CT) for his medical care. He received the most wonderful care and treatment. He could call his doctor on the phone with a problem. They were very busy too, but not too busy to care for each veteran. When my ex. died I called his doctor to inform him and thank him for the care he provided.

I've come to the conclusion that if I have to go to a city for a doctor's appointment that being late is not a big deal. They are always running late and have emergencies...and they understand traffic jams. Maybe it's best to call pre op and make sure the orders have been placed before leaving the house. These places are so big that there is a lack of communication. All the offices are overwhelmed by all the appointments. Leason learned.

So sorry you had such a frustrating day, Mr. Tom. I can certainly feel for you. And yes, keeping your head and being pleasant works much better than throwing a hissy fit. It seems like our medical system is designed to keep us frustrated. I've gone from having a primary care doctor that wanted to "milk" Medicare on a monthly basis to having one who's hands are tied so far as doing much of anything for me. I have mild but frequent upper back pain - He refers me to an orthopedic surgeon who wants to do major surgery instead of trying non-invasive methods. All seem so eager to schedule test after test, lab after lab, when all I need is attention to whatever is causing me pain or discomfort, and more often than not, I find my real answers on my own. I trust my herbalist far more than any doctor nowadays.

I thank God Alice didn't blow a tire, hose, or belt in the traffic mess. Extra early on Monday I prayed as follows: Dear Lord Jesus, walk with Tom this day. Wrap your arms around him, hold him tight, and protect him in any and all ways. Thank you Lord! Amen (The nicest people always get tested...maybe God wants to use them as an example of how people should treat each other.)
