Well, how refreshing to see a potato harvest where the 'harvester' is quite happy with the result. So many of these videos ( that I love watching ) and mainly in the UK - have the so sad/disappointed/not big enough blah, blah, blah. We don't do chips or many baked spuds here in this house (Australia) - but we love steamed/roast/smashed smaller ones, and the wee ones I would just wash and chuck in a soup or stew. Can't compare fresh home grown taste with the spuds that are on offer in supermarkets - that have been languishing in 'storage' way before they get to the shelf. Well done you Mark🙂👌👏 and you have another subscriber.
Thanks Jen 👍🌱👍 I was surprised how nice and clean the potatoes were out the buckets. Think I'm fully converted to the buckets now and no more potatoes in the ground
I didn’t do this, this year and now regretting it 😂 but I have definitely started in containers in the greenhouse to give them a boost. Well worth it 🥂
Thanks Elaine, I was pretty chuffed with the harvest from the buckets 😊 Think I'm pretty much a convert to doing all the potatoes in buckets now. So much easier than planting them in the ground 👍🌱👍
Great harvest Mark. I like to grow my tatties in buckets because I always spear them when digging them from the ground. Plus no sticky soil on them, which makes cleaning/prepping for dinner much easier. Happy gardening 🙂
Totally with you on the spearing when digging them up. I've done that so many times 😊 Think I'm a complete convert to doing all of them in buckets now, even the main crops. 👍🌱👍
That's a really good harvest. You've convinced me to plant a few buckets up earlier next year. My earliest this year, went in two weeks after you planted these so I'm still waiting for fresh spuds.
I think the little boost they got from being in the greenhouse for a couple of weeks before braving the outside was a big help.👍🌱👍 Wonder if I could get them even earlier as well next year 😊 Only one way to find out 😂
Thanks Joe. With you on the watering had to give the ones I have left a good watering at the weekend as the leaves were just starting to wilt ever so slightly 👍🌱👍
Potatoes are the one thing that seems to be going well this year. Lots of other things knocked by the early dodgy weather. Hoping for a half decent summer so things pick up a little. 👍🌱👍
Had my first harvest a fortnight ago (East Riding Yorkshire) planted mid March - 'International Kidney' variety. Not a big yield per bucket but oh so tasty!!
I did a experiment planted some spuds in ground and some in a large bucket harvested them in bucket them in ground nothing as always happy gardening Richardx
my wife planted two potato skins as an experiment in a shallow bed, just to see what happened , low and behold they took and because they soil was only four inches deep she was shocked to find five massive potatoes ( unknown asda spuds)
Looks like another few weeks needed for the couple of buckets of charlottes I've got on the go as well. Hopefully towards the middle/end of July they'll be good to go 👍🌱👍
Hi Mark, I reuse my compost too 😊 I haven't harvested mine yet, they are Charlotte, 2nd early variety. Only a few leaves have started to turn yellow so, I'll wait another week or two. They are lovely potatoes you have harvested. Another great video. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Thanks Christine. Had some of them for dinner last night and they were delicious. Can't beat the taste of freshly picked potatoes 😊 Charlotte are a great potato. Think I might have a bucket of them hiding somewhere as well. Can't wit for them to be ready 👍🌱👍

I had really good crop this year. Disappointed with the taste of pentland javelin. However, the rocket variety have an amazing 'new potato' taste
