The last couple of prep tables I have done, I installed a new condensing unit instead of the compressor for that reason, the fan motor was old too. I explained this to the customer
and showed them that the labor time was longer on the compressor than the condenser install and would have put the total cost not too much from what I could sell them the new unit and install it. They thought it was reasonable and agreed. This might not be feasible on bigger units, but it worked out on the small ones.

I have been putting the pigtail on these coolers before I set the compressor and do the brazing. I think its a lot easier because I dont have lay down and fight the wiring and that cover.

Replaced a compressor similar to this unit. Got a restriction where. Installed new dryer, capillary tube, still getting Zero on suction side. Jim wish I'm as good as u Sir! Haha

great video Jim...good to see you back. I think it's a good idea to wash out the condenser coil in the sink when the compressor is off the base this way you start with a new clean coil. As far as the discharge line goes I try to heat up the steel stub first instead of on the joint cuz that's when it breaks apart. Most guys heat it up at the joint and pull on it at the same time and it snaps off but you should always cut off the soldered end anyway...start with new copper line on a new compressor.

Hi Jim, nice video! I wanted to ask, what is the best way to work on those little guys. I mean is it easier to just use a piercing valve to recover the refrigerant and then braze in new access shraders or is there a easier way. Thanks Jim, I learn a lot from you.
