At Zula Driving School, we are committed to helping you achieve your goals. We know how important passing your ICBC Road Test is to you. So we've put together this video to help you succeed. These tips are relevant to the Class 5 and Class 7 Road Test in British Columbia, Canada. If you require more information or would like to book driving lessons with us, please visit www.zula.ca. We also offer an online video training course where we teach you about everyday driving scenarios you are bound to encounter.
The ICBC Road Test tips covered in this video are:
Road Test Tip Number 1: Have all the appropriate documentation and fees with you.
Road Test Tip Number 2: Arrive early. ICBC recommends that you arrive 15 minutes earlier to your road test appointment.
Road Test Tip number 3. When you're parking into your road test stall, reverse stall park into it if it is allowed and it's not an angled parking stall.
Road Test Tip Number 4: Bring a licensed or insured, road worthy vehicle to the road test.
Road Test Tip Number 5: Now is a good time to ask any questions you may have. This is also a good time to let the examiner know if you're feeling nervous.
Road Test Tip Number 6: They want to see: are you communicating with other road users?
Road Test Tip Number 7: They want to see that you're always looking in the direction of travel.
Road Test Tip Number 8: This is along the lines of Tip number 6, but they are looking to see if you're scanning.
Road Test Tip Number 9: The want to see you show that you understand the speed limits on the stretch of roads.
Road Test Tip Number 10: Maintain a good following distance and stopping distance.
Road Test Tip Number 11: Have smooth acceleration and deceleration.
Road Test Tip Number 12: Watch out for school zones, play ground zones and construction zones.
Road Test Tip Number 13: Know your hazards.
Road Test Tip Number 14: Parking maneuvers. What they want to see if you're doing the maneuver safely. Which means communicating with the other drivers and looking in the direction of travel.
Road Test Tip Number 15: At some point the examiner will ask you to open your car door. They are looking to see if you check left side mirror and shoulder check before opening the door.
Road Test Tip number 16: Keep both hands on the wheel at all times.
Road Test Tip Number 17: Stay centered in your lane. Don't deviate from your lane if you're not performing a lane change or turning.
Road Test Tip Number 18: Make full stops at stop signs and red lights.
Road Test Tip Number 19: As you approach an intersection, have a plan!
Road Test Tip Number 20: Is it an uncontrolled intersection? If it is, then you can proceed without stopping only if it's safe to do so.
Road Test Tip Number 21: Is it a 2 way stop? Did you make a full stop before the stop line? Do you have a good view of the cross street traffic? If not, pull forward a bit more to get better viewing angle without blocking their path. Is there another vehicle at the 2 way stop and you want to turn left in front of them? Then they have the right of way.
Road Test Tip Number 22: Is it a 4 way? As you approached did you pay attention who was already stopped at the intersection? Remember it's first come first serve. Did you and another vehicle arrive at the exact same time? Remember the person on the right goes first.
Road Test Tip Number 23: Is it a traffic circle? As you approach you signal as you normally would at an intersection and you go around the circle on the right but you need to yield to traffic that's already in the circle and approaching from the left hand side.
Road Test Tip Number 24: Are you coming up to a traffic signal controlled intersection? Did you see the light turn green or is it a stale green?
Road Test Tip Number 25: As you approach the intersection, where is your point of no return?
Road Test Tip Number 26: Are you making a left turn? What kind of light are you dealing with? Is it an advance, protected, or regular intersection light?
Road Test Tip Number 27: Are you making a right turn? Make sure you signal in advance, but not so far in advance that's not clear where you're turning.
Road Test Tip Number 28: When make a turn, turn into the first available lane.
Road Test Tip Number 29: Do you lane changes only when it is safe to do so.
Road Test Tip Number 30: If you're going for your class 5 road test, you will be taken onto the highway. Make sure you know how to enter, drive on and exit the highway safely.
Road Test Tip Number 31: If you're not familiar with the test area, consider driving around that area before you road test date or ask a local driving school for a mock road test to help you better prepare.
Road Test Tip Number 32: Don't make a big deal out of the road test.

I PASSED AYYY.
1. bring ID and money - if your care card and DL are on the same card
they only count as 1
2. arrive early - ICBC recommends 15m early
3. reverse stall park into the road test stall to allow you to start
your test forward
4. bring a licenced, insured, road-worthy vehicle
5. before the test, talk to the examiner and ask any questions you have
- let them know if you're nervous
6. signal
7. look in the direction of travel - 360 check before reversing *not a
mirror*
8. always be scanning
9. speed control - 50k on city roads, 20k on lanes or alleys
10. maintain a good following distance and stopping distance
11. smooth acceleration and deceleration
12. watch for school zones, playground zones, and construction zones -
all 30k
13. hazard perception - at some point in the test youll be asked to name
5 hazards you can see
14. parking maneuvers - they don't care as much if you can park
perfectly; they're looking for safe maneuvering, communicating with
other drivers, looking in the direction of travel, etc
15. vehicle door safety - check the mirror and shoulder check
16. keep both hands on the wheel
17. stay centered in your lane
18. full stops - don't roll at all, make it clear
19. plan for intersections before getting there
20. uncontrolled intersection - proceed without stopping only if safe
21. 2-way stops - pull forward to get a better viewing angle *after*
making a full stop at the line
22. 4-way stops - if you arrive at the exact same time the person on the
right goes first
23. traffic circles - signal left while in the circle and right to leave
the circle
24. traffic lights - remember stale greens etc. *don't* run a yellow
unless you can't stop safely
25. know the point of no return approaching an intersection
26. left turns - know your waiting position, know what to do on a yellow
27. right turns - check rearview mirrow, rightside mirrow, shoulder
check before making a right turn
28. turn into correct lane
29. lane changes - only change lanes if safe
30. highway driving - make sure you can enter, drive on, and exit
highways
31. be familiar with the road test neighbourhood
32. don't worry
Awesome 👍

Congrats guys 😂🎉
i would like to say thank you because your video helped me to passed my roadtest for the first time today in Vancouver
Hi Rowell,
I am glad to hear that your Road Test went well. Try to keep your good habits that have helped you pass your road test such as, making full stops at red lights and stop signs, shoulder checking each time you are turning or changing lanes, and looking further down the road and scanning your surroundings frequently.
Wish you all the best,
Shayan
Would you mind sharing some easy to miss road blocks?
@@limadu671 are you talking about constructions? just follow the road sign and right speed
@@owie0021 no, the route of the road test for point grey ICBC
Very good first time pass.
Just passed my N test today.
The main takeaway for everyone tryna pass, EXAGGERATE your shoulder checking and scanning as much as possible and make sure that you call out when u shoulder check if the examiner ISN'T looking or is writing something down, they will assume you didn't at all if you don't tell them. They have dinged me for that over 2 times, I was only able to pass today because I made that effort to let them know.
going into it thinking you've already failed so you can actually focus is the best advice I've ever heard
Popping in to say after 4 days of listening to these tips and remembering everything word for word I have officially passed my icbc road test! Thank you so much for making this video. It's very informative and has made me a much better driver
I watched this multiple times before my road test and can happily say it helped me pass first try! Not a single error, thanks to zula!
I just passed my N test today! thank you I watched this video twice and did some lessons with an instructor, and that's all it took!
I’m 19 and I’ve always been scared of driving. I’ve started practicing using the brake petal just a little and being able to make small turns in an empty school parking lot when no one’s around since I worry about people watching me. I decided not to skip my test drive by hiring a professional and license Dmv private agent and i was given a provisional driver's license. Driving is something I’ve never wanted to do because I’ve always been scared of it, but I’ve realised it’s something that we all have to do when the time comes because without having the ability to drive, you will not be able to have independence or have any freedom in this life or even make anything of yourself. So, to anyone who is in my shoes right now the best thing to do is not stress, ask questions, or just go for a provisional license.
Interesting
Can you give more explanation on how you are able to skip your test drive
Yo John, can you lead me through the process. I don’t won’t to take any fucking test I hate it. I need license buddy
Hey John,
I’m 23 and I still haven’t been able to pass the test drive not to talk of getting a hold my license. I’m so heart broken right now but seen this here has give me a good hope.
Have always heard about this provisional license but don’t know who to contact or how to get it.
Just taking a stroll on some dmv test drive channels since am having my 3rd test drive in 2 weeks' time was deeply nervous because i can't imagine failing again my nephew will make jest of me. But seen this here now am relieved. can you please recommend me to the agent you hired or probably tell me how i can get one? Thanks
This video is a really good reference for those who have practiced their driving skills and need a refresher on what to expect on their road test. I passed on my 4th try a couple days ago and watching this over and over got me in the right mindset and helped me mentally prep for the test! Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for making these videos. I just passed my class 5 road test today!
I failed the same test 2 weeks ago. Between the fail and today's pass, I literally binge-watched your videos 😀.
I will be recommending this channel to anyone in BC who wants to improve their driving or pass their road test. It's such a great resource!
Thank you so much this video helped me pass my test. Remember everyone safety is the number 1 priority, don’t stress too much you’re going to do great :)
Thank you thank you thank you! I passed my Class 5 first try (perfect with no mistakes, very good defensive driving and shoulder checks/scanning) thanks to this video! I watched it almost 20 times! And a bunch of your other videos, this channel really helped me feel confident enough to pass! She didn’t even have to ask me hazards as I was communicating my decisions with her when they arose, which she appreciated!
If anyone wants to pass, this channel is this best for tips and lessons. Good luck to anyone else taking their tests!!! 🤙
You're most welcome. 😊
Congratulations on passing the road test. Sounds like you prepared well for your road test and reaped the rewards. Thank you for coming back here and sharing your story. Keep up the great driving habits.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for this video! I watched this video right before my road test and passed :)) your tips are extremely helpful and cover things that can be confusing, such as how to deal with a stale yellow light, and helped me review important things to remember for the test! This video calmed my nerves and helped me go into the test confidently!
Excellent video. Has covered almost everything a prospective driver going for test should know.
I’m happy to say I passed my road test in BC today and your amazing videos are what helped me be successful. Thank you Zula Driving School!

I remember failing my first road test because I had an allergic reaction to the examiner's aftershave. Within 10 minutes of him being in my vehicle I had to ask him if we could stop because I couldn't breathe and my eyes were swelling shut. Now I think ICBC has a scent-free policy.
I’ve watched all your videos, practised and improved myself to pass the road test on my first attempt. Thank you Shayan for posting such wonderful videos.
After a couple of tries, I finally got my driver´s license class 5. I
still can't believe it. Thanks for sharing all this valuable information

Meant to write this a while ago but have been too busy enjoying driving all on my own!! Last month I got my N on the first try thanks to a lesson from Shayan at Zula Driving School. He helped me understand all the nit picky details you need to know for various manoeuvres to pass your test. Thanks Shayan!!! Highly recommend these videos and lessons

Passed my class 5 yesterday. Your videos are definitely of great help. God Bless you.
Thank you so much, I passed my Road Test!!! Thank you, your tips were awesome and crucial to my success.
I passed !!! Just saw it twice before my test in BC. Must see video for all. THANK YOU for such a detailed, well explained video
I had my test today in Langley and I passed. Your tips are excellent. The detailed video about complex intersections saved me! It was a class 5 test , they did not make me parallel park but took me on a highway and reverse park at the end. I didn’t do a perfect job at parking but they were more than happy that I corrected myself and made sure to shoulder check again when correcting myself. I did go over speed limit a few times but immediately corrected it so you shouldn’t be too worried about that either. Just ask questions and keep calm the examiners are really nice.
Im so nervous for my class 5
What sort of questions are okay to ask?
your videos helped me pass my test today in california .A big Thanks.
I passed my test in first try after watching this video day before my test . all the tips shown in video were really helpful. I had international license before ,I knew how to drive but these tips are main things u have to learn if u wanna pass a test here in CANADA.

Great video! Thank you so much. Very informative and empowering! More power!
Thank goodness I finally passed my Class 7 road test recently after 7 unsuccessful attempts in Surrey. I won my license on the 8th attempt. I was used to the roads in Surrey, that's why I did not choose another city to do the test. My advice for those of you that are taking the road test in Surrey is to avoid taking any risk that can result in a dangerous action or a violation, make sure to exaggerate your observation, and maintain speed to impress the examiners. Surrey has the strictest examiners than any other city in BC!
Thanks a lot. Got passed my class 5 road test first try because of this video. Nov 16 at North Vancouver.
I was watching this non stop today 3/4/2023, and this video is spot on. I passed the test in one try.
Just wanted you all to know that I was watching this guy's videos and I just passed my Class 5 Road Test here in Burnaby B.C on my first attempt!
Also, I fully agree with all these tips especially tip # 31 which is to practice in the area where your test is. Make sure to find out where the school zones and playgrounds are so you can slow down before you come to them.
Good luck with your test if you have one! Keep practicing and preparing: you can do it!
Taking class 5 road test tomorrow, my 2nd attempt. On first one i failed because of inconsistent shoulder check only.
Great video to review before your driving test. Watched it yesterday and passed my class 5 today!

Going for my test in October... these have been really helpful tips for me to practice. Thank you
Amazing video!! Thank you so much for these valuable tips!!
My road test is in 28 days and I’m so ready to get rid of my L and get my N. This video really does help, I’m gonna watch it every week till then just to brush up on a few things. My road test will be held in a tiny town of about five thousand people so I’m not too nervous, there are no freeways or traffic lights here, it’s just a little town with small neighbourhoods, there is only one gas station, a few shops here and there, one grocery store, and maybe two restaurants, so I’m glad I don’t have to worry about intersections with three lanes or traffic lights. All the intersections here are uncontrolled or stop sign controlled. Wish me luck.
Wjere do u live

Sometimes the instructors fail you regardless even if you did everything right
bruh no they won't
@@coleanderson9767 actually they do if they want to make up some bullshit reason which happens all the time
@@PomeloMk8 ... they really don’t let their personal feelings intervene with their job, if you feel they did you can grieve it. Some instructors are going to be more stern than others, you just need to be fully prepared. Most of the time when you’re failed it’s because you didn’t demonstrate the full ability to drive safely on your own.

My road test is on 14th of October. I’m so nervous Does anyone know if icbc has changed the road test due to Covid-19. For example not test you on certain things or shorten the test. I’m so scared I barely know how to drive.
Hi Kiran, nothing has changed in terms of the structure of the road test. I recommend that you start practicing right away. You'd want to go into a road test having driven 60 hours. That's what ICBC recommends and it's a fair amount of practice. Each examiner does about 160 exams per month, so they're pretty good at telling when someone needs more practice. You want to show up prepared, not just "trying it out" or "testing my luck." Hope this helps.
Zula Driving School, thanks for replying I know I need to practice a lot and at least drive 60 hours on the road. I had another question. My learners is going to expire on the 21st of October. So I can also book a knowledge test in case I fail my road test. Are you allowed to book 2 appointments?

Thank you for this video!! Very helpful and informative
Be good looking, drive a BMW or a new car, drive slow like you live on a trust fund and have all of your time and show that you'll never have the need to work. Don't have empty beer cans in the back seat or weed in the astray. After you've gone hunting that moose head on the hood and that hunting rifle should not be in your vehicle. Drive around the block before the test to spot possible hidden road signs and other traps the examiner migth use against you, be aware that the 50km/h yellow ligths duration are for people that don't obey the law and are speeding, entering at 50 km/h the light will turn red before you're thru. So either way you'll fail. Be prepared that the examiner haven't showered since 2 weeks and have a stinky cologne that will almost make you pass out. Be aware that approching an intersection the examiner will be like a cold hearted capricious wife who will tell you where to go at the very last time so you need to figth fire with fire and in case the examiner does'nt speak enough like an angry girlfriend, be proactive and ask the examiner where are you going. And lastly you have 2 chance out of 3 that the examiner either mumbles or can't even speak one of the 2 official languages correctly. Great video btw.
The worst advice for anyone to learn from, but your advice is the best for whoever wants to die alone with dementia/Alzheimer’s because you lie to yourself all the time. I hope you were joking. Good luck!

After 2 fails I finally got my license! It's pretty easy for the evaluator to fail you for simple mistakes so keep your head up if it happens. Failure doesn't necessarily mean you're a bad driver. Keep practicing and go at it again. You're bound to get someone who believes in you. But for me I took a step further by contacting a private license and professional dmv agent that helped me to write a provisional letter to bypass the test drive and i was given a provisional driver's license which will last for 12 months. I got a license now and it will serve for 1 year then I renew again.
My little advice.
* If you think are too nervous for the test drive then you can easily switch to a provisional driver's license which you won't need to test drive.
Thank you so much for the tips. I watched this video few times before my test and i cleared it in first attempt.
