- Another great thumbpicking track by Tommy, and with some good news: Cowboy's Dream is not as freakishly difficult as some other TE songs. The alternate tuning makes life for the left hand a lot easier, allowing you to focus on the bass and melody parts!

How do you like the view the "Magnet" offers? It is mostly for slowed down use, at full speed it can be a bit... much to take in 🤯
Looks great!
Pretty good! You probably know that, but James Taylor made a few guitar lessons too, with a picking hand view from inside the guitar body, and another close up on the fretting hand. His set up has nothing in the way up the neck, wich you have here...
The magnet gives an amazing look at the right hand. Really shows how quiet and close you stay to the strings. Well done 👍 💜🇺🇸
Definitely a good addition, very useful see what is going on from another perspective👍
Gives a much more precise visual of the thumb vs finger picking timings! So very helpful
I didn't expect to see the magnet here! Troy Grady's videos helped me so much with my picking technique years ago. I remember that the original crowdfunding for the magnet didn't really work out, so it's great to see it being used by others after all.
Special...thanks
Excellent. You’ve done him proud.
Awesome cover!
YEE-HAW Cowboy!, YEE-Haw!! That was great Tim. Your fluidity, articulation, smoothness, timing, is off the charts. I have listened to most of your music on UA-cam, and you are really one of thee best on here, and there are a LOT of players on here my friend. So "pick it like ye like it" my friend,
Bob in WV
Fabulous Tim!!
One of my favorites by Tommy. This is such a fun and beautiful song made by a equally fun and beautiful man. well done Tim you nailed this one👏
One of my favorite of Tommy’s, especially when he does the medley with Chet’s “Kentucky “. But no Tim, this is NOT an easy song (maybe for you! 🙂). I bought the lesson on TrueFire years ago and finally have everything down pat but only to the bridge. Now I’m not too hard on myself because this song was also my first attempt to incorporate a thumb pick into my playing. So, I’ve been learning a new song but also become pretty good with a thumb pick. Maybe I should purchase your lesson to get this under my fingertips because man, it’s taking me FOREVER! 😅
Magnificent!
As always..you did it again!! Nice work Tim. Thank you for share my friend🎸❤️
Splendîd ! ❤
Excited to do the first tutorial part!
I'm really grateful for your videos! :)
Thank you, much appreciated!
Thanks for another great addition and I'm glad to be one of your patrons! :)
Glad to have you as part of the community, Zemi
Time to sign up to Patreon 🙂
Ya I’m thinking the same thing
@@vaughnmaurt5013 love this track, struggling with the "boom chick" timing on the intro though!
If this one is giving you a headache, maybe try Chet Atkins' version of "Wheels" first (tutorial on my channel as well). It is played in the same tuning, and it allows you to focus completely on the bass part (since the left hand fingerings are so easy)!
@@TimVanRoy Nice, thanks very much man 👍
Yeehaw!
Очень классно получилось! Конструкция с телефоном тоже хорошо придумано, видно какими пальцами бьешь струны😀
Thanks, that's good to hear!
We want this lesson
Love this song! Could you please play Chet's Ramble ? It's an amazing tribute Tommy wrote to Chet after he died. Would be awesome! Cheers, Tim!
Hi Rafael, the request list is getting long, hard to keep up 😉. I will definitely put that one on it, but I can't promise when I'll get around to recording it. My website (which I hope to launch soon) will have a request board with a voting system, so stay tuned!
Bro when are you gonna do keeping it simple ??? That's his best one
That is definitely something for the future, but I can't give you a timeframe yet! First I want to get my website published 😜
Tim, when will your webstie be up? I ask because I like to download your videos so I can use my computers and software to play them on my big screen the learn from. With my software (e.g. VLC) I can set A and B markers to loop between things so I can go over and over a tricky transistion from say a verse to the chorus or a bridge. This is extremely useful. On Pateron I cannot do that with their video player (they user Vimeo I believe). I don't mind paying Pateron for your lessons because they are so good and you deserve it. That's not something I can say for most things. In fact, I only have one subscription to Pateron and that's for you. But I do want the material provided so I can learn at my own pace and with my own tools. I'm not looking to steal content, just to have control over that which I believe I pay for. Will your new site allow downloads for paying customers like myself? Interestingly right now I am taking some online computer courses that my employer is paying for but which are expensive. They allow me to download all of the content. And like your instruction, I'm not looking to steal it, just have it conveniently located so I can review it when I want to using my own tools.
Keep 'em coming!
Very well played. I attempted this song last year and mostly got it but I could not do the palm muting on the bass strings and keep the melody clear. So it didn't sound clean. The song just doesn't sound as good when you let the bass ring out. I wish somebody would do an extensive tutorial on palm muting. Perhaps you could do it.
I already have Eric! I cover the topic in my “Thumbpick Starter”, the full series is on my UA-cam channel. I think video 2 or 3 is all about picking hand posture and muting.
@@TimVanRoy Ahhh, I remember now, I was hybrid picking it and I showed Tommy what I was doing. He tried hybrid picking it (on my guitar) and of course he played it perfectly, but he said it was much better to thumb pick it. He also told me to get a thicker pick which I have done and it's much better. Hard to argue with Tommy. I'll take a look at your lessons.
