    Thanks for your informative presentation.
Mine 1982 R 100 CS with 18 k miles, feel like lubing the splines and changing the clutch . Is the swing arm to be taken apart for this job.
    Will appreciate a reply. Thanks

Thanks for the great video - and others. I've just pulled my gearbox out and am looking at options for cleaning it up. I've read your artcle about how you do it with scotch brite and wire wool etc - and had a go myself. But after about three hours work I have made little progress. Maybe I am doing it wrong - or maybe my gearbox is in a particularly bad state. Or maybe I just need to settle in for several solid days of effort? How long would you expect to spend on cleaning up a gearbox? I've also got the rear drive to do - and that is seriously filthy - virtually black. I might have to look into bead blasting.

Mark, I have a document on refinishing products, tools and techniques on my website:
      brook.reams.me/bmw-motorcycle-rebuilds/1973-bmw-r755-rebuild-project/51-bmw-r755-refinishing-techniques/
In summary I get all the grease, crud and dirt off first using engine cleaner. I often use brake cleaner next to remove any traces of oil. Then I use Auto Sol aluminum cleaner with green scotch brite pads and then steel wool. This takes multiple applications to get the aluminum oxide off and a decent sheen restored. I finish up with Auto Sol aluminum polish. It can take awhle.
As to bead blasting, I never do that to the outside of the transmission or the rear drive unless all the parts are removed. You don't want any glass inside them and it can get past the seals.
      I hope this helps.

I had a problem where my clutch push rod had broken into 2 pieces. Do you know what could have caused that?

Dave, No, I don't know for sure what would cause that. If the ball bearings, or earlier roller bearings, froze due to lack of lubrication I suppose that could be a cause.

@@BrooksAirheadGarage it came to light when my clutch kept going out of adjustment. It looks like the two halves of pushrod were rotating against each other and grinding themselves shorter.
