my favorite part about your videos: you teach how to play EXACTLY what the song is...not the freaky arrangements people make up which incorporate the the vocals into notes...i hateee those. thanks so much!!
you're doing a great thing posting these tutorials pianojohn! you've really understood the purpose of communicative power that the internet is all about. thanks a lot!
the line - "sleep pretty darling, do not cry" on the word "cry", instead of playing D-E-F and A with the low D octave, I prefer to play A-E and D with the D octave, bringing the E down to a D and finally a C (to make an F chord). It's less dissonant, seems to follow the orchestration a little better, and I think it's what Sir Paul played live when I saw him at Yankee Stadium. Great tutorial though, thanks so much!
John, you pretty much have taught me how to play piano. I been studying the songwriting secrets of the beatles and coupled with your lessons Ive learned not only how to play but the theory of these great songs. Thank You.
John I just want to thank you. You do not know this, but your tutorials have made me succed in the Fab 4: A Tribute. This is a concert we made at school. I would show it to you but our crappy camarographer made a crappy job. Anyways, you have made me succeed as the first pianist in the history of our school. Thank You!
Excellent work, again! This is a beautiful song. I have often wished Paul would have made it just a little longer, but it's not necessarily a bad thing to leave people wanting more, sometimes.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!I can do this but not from sheet music { I 'm really happy you teach this way. I was just going to ask this but found the answer after checking out your channel page: Do you have any DVDs of your video lessons available for purchase? A: No, I do everything for free right here. I really believe that music should be shared and learned by everyone who wants to play. If my videos add to your musical enjoyment or help you to become a better musician, then it's worth it for me.
"first a brief demo of the song"... pam pam pam pim pim pam... OKAY! It starts with....... ah ah you are so great!!!!!!! I would like you were my piano teacher, thanks for your tutorials. God always bless you and people like you
Another great piano tutorial.I love that song. I now that its a really guitar song, and that it will not sound so good on the piano, but can you make a tutorial of run for your life. And thanks again for the great tutorial
Love playing Golden Slumbers, Carry that Weigh, The End. It's one of my favorites but I was wondering if you know any songs by The Who. Such as Baba O'Riley, Squeeze Box, or Real Good Looking Boy?
Try leaving the right hand rhythmical pattern unchanged as in the verse at the chorus while adjusting only the bass part's beat, it's easy to do and sounds great. I should know, I've finished covering this one in November. I'm going to record it next, so perhaps you'll feel the difference. :)
Diffidently one of your better teachings. I dont read music or anything but Ive sort of learned and so sometimes I think you go a little fast in your video switch I understand since your trying to make it easier by putting it all in one video instead of two parts. But sometimes you are a little hard to follow and go fast But this video was ALOT better than some of your others;)
Yes sir it is indeed there, but it was weird because I've replayed this video hundreds of times and then all of the sudden there was no sound, so the next obvious thing to do is play a different video and see if there is sound, and sure enough there was sound on all the other videos, and that's what through me for a loop. And In the end (no Beatles pun intended), I had somehow changed my Realtek sound driver setting, which because this was a mono recording , it didn't play the audio. Thanks!
Thank you! Awesome lesson! I can actually play this after watching your video! Wow cool! You explain it perfectly with just the right timing! Good job!
Thanks once again John, I love this song but could never quite grasp it until I watched your tutorial... You are a star!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Do you take requests?. If so I would love to see a tutorial of "The End Of The End" from Paul's "Memory Almost Full" album please.
+pianojohn, a tricky one for me to learn was Marth My Dear. there's a tune that ya pretty much gotta get it right. not much room for putting your own taste to it. but when you get it right...there's a real feel of accomplishment. the tricky back/forth timing was the tough part to crack
Thank you very much. After playing guitar for 2 years and working on my theory the transition to piano is made with delightfully surprising ease. Not undue to your tutorials. Not at all! Thank you!
Nils I'm doing that transition exactly right now. I also played a violin for 5 years so I got the theory, but can you tell me how was the transition for you? Is it just about learning the chords well and then I could play most songs?
Amit Kalderon Yes, I just learned to play chords in a basic way on piano (like in the case of C = C G C E G C) and started to sing along with songs (mostly beatles ;)) I make a lotta mistakes untill I don't anymore. My ears just learn. Try different inversions of chords (In the case of C = E G C, G C E, and of course C E G) Mess around with the bassline, although in the beginning I focussed on the right hand. Left hand will come. I found Lady Madonna to be a cool piece to get a swing in the left hand. You can use this swing in may songs ofcourse. But I'd say just look up chords like you do for guitar and play, make mistakes, listen for what sounds nice to you. And, when you learn new things from songs, like the octave swing bass line in lady madonna, try to apply it to another song or chord structure. This way you make them your own. Have fun playing!!
Nils Thank you so much for the long and detailed comment. It's very useful. I believe i'll also play mostly Beatles and some Queen, so I'll take everything you said into count. Thanks a lot!
British? You've been watching too many movies, my friend, in which English characters sound like well spoken Americans (they talk like Frasier Crane). Oh and I can't thank you enough for these vids, John. I only discovered Abbey Road last year and only decided to seriously improve my piano skills this year. As if by magic you've brought them both together. Thank you!
I don't understand after which chord you play the "fill(er)" at 8:40. I think you play the A D F chord twice then you start the filler but I'm note sure.
Dude, you're a genius. I'm a huge Beatles fan and a piano player (I mostly play chord style and sing). Do you have one for "You Never Give Me Your Money"?
Do you have any sheet music that I can use for this arrangement? I am currently planning on doing this for a talent show with a couple of friends, please and thank you!
pianojohn113 - would you ever make a video of how to play "sixty years on" by Elton John? Also thanks for all the videos! I have learned so many songs with your tutorials
Man, I love you ! hahaha Ok, too much... But all the songs I'm trying to play, there you are. Thank you for this tutorial... P.S.: The guy that just bought the piano and tried Martha My Dear... hehe For real, you helpped me a lot !!
Oh wow, this is truly amazing =] Thank you so much haha. I have a couple piano videos on my page but not nearly as well was this =] Fantastic work, dude. =D
pianojohn113 The video is playing without sound. There once was sound; this was one of my favorite tutorials. I learned via your teaching a while back and I came here to refresh. to my surprise, there is no audio for me.

I loved Paul’s exquisitely melodic use of inversions on such simple chords.

Thank you! This song is one of my favourites and your tutorials are excellent, great work John!
You're very welcome, Charisa. Enjoy!

Man, I've been watching your videos for years. You play everything to a T. Your time and effort are appreciated so much.
My god I've been looking for a channel like yours for ages - this stuff is great!
you're doing a great thing posting these tutorials pianojohn! you've really understood the purpose of communicative power that the internet is all about. thanks a lot!
the line - "sleep pretty darling, do not cry"

Great tutorial though, thanks so much!
The dissonance actually sounds better to me I gotta say
I think it's a Dminor9 chord there - I play F A and E in the right hand, with the D octave in my left. Sounds right to me.
John, you pretty much have taught me how to play piano. I been studying the songwriting secrets of the beatles and coupled with your lessons Ive learned not only how to play but the theory of these great songs. Thank You.
Of ALL the piano tutorials, this is the only one where I learn to play. Thank you big time.
John
I just want to thank you.
You do not know this, but your tutorials have made me succed in the Fab 4: A Tribute.
This is a concert we made at school.
I would show it to you but our crappy camarographer made a crappy job.
Anyways, you have made me succeed as the first pianist in the history of our school.

You have taught me everything I know on piano. Thanks a bunch, John! Keep the amazing videos coming! :)
Brilliant and patient teacher showing we budding pianists how to play this beautiful song. Thank you!
You're very welcome, Patrick, I appreciate the kind words!
What a beautiful melody! It's a privilege to play it
Love it! So simple, yet so beautiful. Probably one of my favorite Beatles pieces!

Absoluteley superb John. I love this tune.
I learned this song when I was 7 ! I got glad when I found you play the same version :)
Thank you so much. Most beautiful song ever.
5:26 I like the bass staying the same, but in the actual song, the bass notes move: G A B G C
I LOVE this...thx man. Perfectly explained for a guitarist trying to figure out piano.
You're very welcome, my friend, I'm glad it was helpful to you.
i hope you keep doing these. they are so helpful and fun to play. thanks so much!!!
:O I am about to learn one of the most beautiful songs that was ever written.. I can't thank you enough!!! :D
i love the beatles and have always wanted to play this song thank you very much for showing how to play it
Excellent work, again! This is a beautiful song. I have often wished Paul would have made it just a little longer, but it's not necessarily a bad thing to leave people wanting more, sometimes.

Hey PianoJohn Are you evr going to do a tutorial of Money That's what I want?
thanks once again. another great tutorial : )
Thanks, it cleared some things up for me.
it's excellent, how do you know the original keys ?
Awesome tutorial, John. One question: on the word "sleep," Paul sings a G, but you suggest playing a G-sharp. Seems weird. Is that correct?
I don't understand after which chord you play the "fill(er)" at 8:40. I think you play the A D F chord twice then you start the filler but I'm note sure.
Dude, you're a genius. I'm a huge Beatles fan and a piano player (I mostly play chord style and sing). Do you have one for "You Never Give Me Your Money"?
I learned just from watching the demo in the beginning. =D Thanks John!
Do you have any sheet music that I can use for this arrangement? I am currently planning on doing this for a talent show with a couple of friends, please and thank you!

You're welcome, John, glad it was helpful. :-)
Hello, thank you for this great tutorial. Is there any way to return the sound?
pianojohn113 The video is playing without sound. There once was sound; this was one of my favorite tutorials. I learned via your teaching a while back and I came here to refresh. to my surprise, there is no audio for me.
+Jesse Jenkins I'm no piano John but you should check your device settings because I'm watching the video right now with full audio.
Or maybe the audio came back? (just checked your comment post date)
Thank you, excelent !
hey John! you think you could do "Back Seat of My Car" from the Ram album?
Thanks! Great play!
@pianojohn113
For years I played this on C and Dm, ha ha yeah I am not exactly brilliant on the Keyboard. My sonic machine of choice is the Guitar.
