  • A useful fishing hook design for catching medium to large sized fish. Alternatively. spruce roots can be used in place of paracord inner strands as well as other strong natural fibers.

This might even be more useful in a real survival than a bow. This should be shown more often in TV or videos etc. . Hope if i need it i will remember this video. haha xD

I completely agree with you brother

i only agree with this bc i feel as if people would be able to use this easier than they could a bow but if it’s a bow in the hands of someone skilled with a bow or this hook in the hands of a skilled fishermen i still think a bows better, but if it comes to overall use, there’s way more people who know how to fish as oppose to know how to use a bow so i do believe you’re correct more ppl would be able to fish than know how to accurately shoot a bow, have strength to use it, have resources to make it and also know how to hunt

It's really unrealistic and difficult to make a bow capable of taking game in a real survival situation. Even a seasoned bowyer would struggle with that and might not see it being worthwhile. In a longterm survival situation, it might make sense. But for a situation where all you're trying to do is get out of your survival situation, it takes way too much time and effort to craft a usable bow, and then there's actually using it to hunt. There are many other far more useful and efficient techniques for getting food, like trapping. You can set up dozens of traps in the time it takes to make even part of a bow.
And that's even if food is a major concern for you anyway, for a realistic short term survival situation. Food would be the last resort.

*These floats do what they say they do **enjoyable.fishing** recommend they come on and off easily and can be adjusted in seconds to adjust to the depth of the water you are fishing in. Used these with trout magnet lures and did really well with them in the stream!*

I jave found that if you groove the chisel end along its length at the tip to match the roundness of the spike shaft fill the groove with some pine pitch before wrapping not only will it hold it in place while wrapping but it makes the structures stronger too and all you have to do to tie a new spike is heat it up to release the pine pitch and do it all over again makes it ALOT easier to make super tiny minnow sized hooks.

If you can find a big thorn it can also be made into a decent hook

I was going to write the same thing as I've done it myself with a long thorn however green thorns can bend over pretty easy , I was getting into primitive skills a while back and used boiled fish skin as a glue which worked well , I used a piece of cherry for the shank and drilled a hole all the way thru then jammed glued and bound the 2 together, mine was small enough for pan fish to bite but I never did use it .

    Very well maneuvered sir.
Luckily here I. The great basin the black Hawthorne grows in much of the middle forest shelf.
It's a similar idea but the thorns are naturally very sharp and sit at that hook angle. The red berries are eatable too.

actually if you have extra you wouldn’t wanna wrap around and use the rest, you’d wanna cut it right there so you could use the left over for something else that could help you in a survival situation

Can l smoke half the bone before l make a hook out of it? Only kidding l haven't done that in many moons. This would take much practice, you have a talent for this that many of us cant match but have to work on. Thanks Guru.
