I am a Bengali non Brahmin born in the General category... I learned the scriptures myself with the help of eminent Gurus and their books, and perform my own yajnas, pujas myself including our most elaborate Durga Puja which even many of the inexperienced Brahmin family born men doesn't dare to. Interestingly, not a single Brahmin has ever asked me "Why are you performing pujas, you are not a Brahmin". It's often people from other communities including my own relatives who have asked the same!
The Vedas do not say that caste is determined by birth. Rather, Shri Krishna explains in the Bhagavad Gita that a person's caste is determined by "guna" and "karma" (characteristics and actions of the person). the birthright is Kaitava Dharma (deceit religion). In addition, it is explained in the Vedas that in Kali-yuga every person is born as Shudra. A brahmana is one who has realized the Brahman, which means that one has realized that one is not the body but a spiritual soul. Such a person can live in celibacy without any problems and is only sexually active when it comes to fathering a child. In addition, the consciousness of the parents during the conception of the child should be as pure as possible, free from passion (rajaguna) and tamaguna (ignorance). So there are only a few in our age who are allowed to call themselves Brahmana and those who do it anyway even though they don't have the qualifications are nothing but hypocrites and are only deceiving themselves... no good karma for the next life. Mindset is what matters in today's day and age. I come from a Havyaka Brahmin family where traditions are respected but at the same time my parents have always taught me to never judge a person based on their background. No restrictions have ever been placed on me making friends with people of other castes and my dad has even made it clear that i can marry anyone i wish to. My non-Brahmin friends are actually more casteist than my Brahmin ones. People opening their minds and removing the caste political angle is what is needed to solve this issue, but ofc that is easier said than done.

Whether I am a Brahmin through my actions is irrelevant because I, and every other Hindu in this country is classified into castes on the basis of lineage by the constitution and our census, regardless of the Vedic requirements. Is this wrong, yes, but it is what is. Changing the system is much more difficult than people opening up their minds and working together towards building an inclusive society (ie: the point I was trying to make in the original comment). And just as a matter of fact, i have indeed made an effort towards trying to understand the Vedas. I have started learning Sanskrit for the past few months so that I can grasp the knowledge without the need for too many translations. It will take a long time, perhaps my entire life in order to understand the the vast trove of knowledge held in our Shastras, but I am definitely dedicated towards it.

You are right. To teach others not only the teacher but the student also should be (capable of) interest in the learning { which is called Jignyasa in Sanskrit}. So that's why some of the students like Ekalavya for example is rejected. It's because of his impatience. If you are a Telugu person then I am telling you to watch the upanyas of Bhagavad Gita by TTD came at Corona time. So Sanskrit is so complicated in it's grammar or poetic meter it is hard to learn it. so, that's why it can't be a national language and this is another reason for the birth of Indian languages.
Dude, restricting learning to one caste or group does not classify as furthering knowledge. Of course there were many bright Brahmins (geniuses, really) but who knows what all progress would have been made if 85% of the population were also educated. People lack intelligence and virtue. They just survive from day to day. What's created by the wise can only be sustained by selected people. In animals, this is called animal husbandry, but its real name is eugenics. Take Indian religions completely out of the equation and let's look at science and maths. In the UK, there are many poor and ignorant white working class people. Those people can take a fully funded (by the taxpayer) degree in maths, and go instantly into a very highly paid job. So why don't they? The problem is ability. Even though there are no entry barriers, they cannot do that degree. Humans are not as smart as you think, so it's necessary to select for positive traits and repress undesirable ones. If you leave breeding in the hands of nature, you get strong humans, with big p3nis, strong disease resistance, big muscles, etc. In classical India they began to select specific traits to specific jobs. Then it was observed that training (education) was mostly father to son. Then it was observed that the children of educated people are naturally brighter and can learn things easier. What use is it to teach a farmer the Vedas? He is the best at farming and his son is strong at wielding farm tools. When you look at teachers' children they are, likewise, smarter than factory worker children, even to this day. This is the reasoning that has brought you the Vedas intact in 2024, memorised by generations of genetically selected people over thousands of years. Just the facts.

They are not allowed to marry outside that (not even other casts that calls themselves Brahmins). How did these groups(caste isn't right word)? These groups are followers of certain interpretation of Vedas or puranas. They all have their own most valued scripts. They is never been single bramin caste. Its modern idea to call they all Brahmins.

I think you are talking about Rudra. Shiva is an adjective which means auspicious or mighty. In Rigveda 7.18.7 and Atharvaveda 8.9.22, Shiva is used for the formless supreme Brahman. The adjective Shiva is also used for Rudra in Rigveda 10.92.9
A comprehensive educational system must also inculcate studying S. Indian texts, e.g. Thevaaram, Thiru-vaassagam , Thiru Arutpa, Thirupugazh, Thirumandhiram , the Thirumurrays, Siva-nyaana-bodham, inter alia.

The example you gave regarding Krishna cheating Karna exhibits the complexity of the concept. Fortunately, there are no gods among us to overturn what we know to be right. Dharmic renaissance is largely cultural. Would it have effects on law and politics? Just as much as other beliefs adopted the people whether religious or secular. Let us also not think that secularism is a desirable feature of society. Many nontheistic ideologies which are essentially are the substitute of religions proliferate and cause much damage to the society. Not to mention Abrahamic culture which has carved up countries and dragged them into conflict.
@DesiLaunde-um7dq A good question to which I now will try and provide an answer. I am not sure if this is the right explanantion or even makes sense but Karna as a person has his crests and troughs. He was a great archer, student and friend. He even donated his kavach kundal knowing it was Indra asking for it! I have the utmost respect for this side of him. Now to come to his troughs, he as a friend never corrected the ways to Duryodhana, he blindly supported him in his endeavours. Even though one can say that Duryodhana helped him but the way he returned back the favour was not just. Even when Duryodhana ne Draupadi ka chir haran krne ko bola us bhari samaj me, Karn ne kch nahi kiya. So he did fail as a warrior who is supposed to protect the helpless. Here Shri Krishna too is binded by Karma and just. He has to ensure as a saarthi and as a bearer of Dharma that the one in wrong should not win over Dharma. Karn even though he had his crests was supporting the one in wrong. So Krishna did what his karma was to win over the wrong

So, I desperately want my son (who is just 18 months old now )to watch this entire video so that he grows up to be a better human being and learns to respect every living being for who they are. In the olden days, Brahmins were not allowed to enter temples if they crossed the seas until they did prayaschit My grandfather was not allowed to emter the temple after his return from Europe unless he did ptayaschit inspite of being a Brahmin Growing up, as a telugu Brahmin woman, we were not allowed to enter the kitchen or puja room im the house during menstruation The practice of sutak when there is a birth or death in the family When a baby is born, both mother and child were not touched for 3 days Maybe there was a scientific reason to keep the infection, which was misinterpreted as discrimination

Coz u might know that Indian sailors often caught a sickness from sea that's caused by deficiency of vitC ,later they caught some bacterias that continuously spreaded amongst others.. It has happened with the Mayans and Aztecs due to Spanish colonialism.. So , ancient people had the notion that sea sailors often catch some viruses from other foreign lands..

There is some detailed evidence in ancient texts and puranas to indicate that caste was a horizontal construct prior to the islamic invasions. There were many castes but not in a top down hierarchy. You could belong to any caste and still have the knowledge imparted provided you were fit to receive the knowledge. Then the brutal islamic invasion turned this horizontal caste system into a vertical hierarchy one and this was done I guess to preserve the knowledge system from being erased completely. But over time this hierarchy became rigid and oppressive.

He totally discounts the very scientific and extremely well researched body of science called linguistics, claiming it's nothing more than a 200 year old whim of a British official. Of course he knows better but it does not fit his narrative. He also left out Sino-Tibeten languages from the North East. Be careful, he is using pseudo science to sell his ideas. Do your own research into the various languages families of India to understand what a truly wonderful sub continent India is.

Shudras were allowed entry in the temples. It is the Dalits who are denied entry. The temple entry movement in the south is for the Dalits. Nandanar was a dalit. Not a Shudra. Untouchables are not part of Shudra community. The Dalits were not part of the four Varna system. Brahmins alone were not responsible for untouchability. The ruling class like Cholas were not Brahmins and the system of untouchability could not have existed without their agreement. This is not to say that Brahmins were not complicit, but untouchability could not have existed without widespread support from the society.

Really loved the documentery. Pranamam sir🙏. Society takes all different turns when we move away from Dharma. I also like to bring in one perceptive which i heard from an author why shudras were kept at a distance. Each varna people had certain practices and eating habits based on that. They held different occupation. One of the occupational hazard of priestly class was low immunity as thier job was in temple and teaching, but people learnt that shudras who did it all kind of mineal job had greater immunity passed on diseases in other sections of the community who were not exposed to those pathogens, died often for this reason and they had to keep distance. It was an intelligent system based on the situations of their time. But at one point of time it became rigid. The planning of villages were also like that back then, priest in centre, then trading community then others who did cleaning work, etc. You know why indigenous people died in Americas and other places when Europeans came in. So it does make sense to not spead diseases around. But the system got rigid later on with mistreatment of others which is not acceptable.
I am a Bengali non Brahmin born in the General category... I learned the scriptures myself with the help of eminent Gurus and their books, and perform my own yajnas, pujas myself including our most elaborate Durga Puja which even many of the inexperienced Brahmin family born men doesn't dare to. Interestingly, not a single Brahmin has ever asked me "Why are you performing pujas, you are not a Brahmin". It's often people from other communities including my own relatives who have asked the same!

The Vedas do not say that caste is determined by birth. Rather, Shri Krishna explains in the Bhagavad Gita that a person's caste is determined by "guna" and "karma" (characteristics and actions of the person). the birthright is Kaitava Dharma (deceit religion). In addition, it is explained in the Vedas that in Kali-yuga every person is born as Shudra. A brahmana is one who has realized the Brahman, which means that one has realized that one is not the body but a spiritual soul. Such a person can live in celibacy without any problems and is only sexually active when it comes to fathering a child. In addition, the consciousness of the parents during the conception of the child should be as pure as possible, free from passion (rajaguna) and tamaguna (ignorance). So there are only a few in our age who are allowed to call themselves Brahmana and those who do it anyway even though they don't have the qualifications are nothing but hypocrites and are only deceiving themselves... no good karma for the next life. Mindset is what matters in today's day and age. I come from a Havyaka Brahmin family where traditions are respected but at the same time my parents have always taught me to never judge a person based on their background. No restrictions have ever been placed on me making friends with people of other castes and my dad has even made it clear that i can marry anyone i wish to. My non-Brahmin friends are actually more casteist than my Brahmin ones. People opening their minds and removing the caste political angle is what is needed to solve this issue, but ofc that is easier said than done.

Whether I am a Brahmin through my actions is irrelevant because I, and every other Hindu in this country is classified into castes on the basis of lineage by the constitution and our census, regardless of the Vedic requirements. Changing the system is much more difficult than people opening up their minds and working together towards building an inclusive society (ie: the point I was trying to make in the original comment). And just as a matter of fact, i have indeed made an effort towards trying to understand the Vedas. I have started learning Sanskrit for the past few months so that I can grasp the knowledge without the need for too many translations. Personally, I appreciate the Brahmin community for upholding our civilisational knowledge despite the insurmountable odds Bharath and Sanatana Dharma has faced. Correction, not just Bharath but the whole world................. .............................................................................. If I recollect reading somewhere, there were 36 known major civilistions from real antiquity ( _Abrahamic ones are relatively newer ones, so, as far as I can remember they don't count_ ). All of them perished except in Bharath. We are the only surviving one -- hence, the jealous targetting by outside forces. We are the only living link to the long dead civilisations .......................................................................................................... Military solutions can only take you so far, but the knowledge systems ( _especially the oral transmission knowledge system_ ) have proven to be the most successful ones in preservation of our civilisation, it is time tested as well. .................. ................................................ My only criticism is that rest of the society has been kept out of this knowledge stream and the Brahmin community itself has become ossified. .................................................................. Some dynamism in the community with updation of handling of contemporary issues would revive the knowledge community. ..........................................................Sanskrit as a national language can spread the knowledge outside the community and provide access to classical literature to one and all. It also acts as a glue language to various other Indian languages. ..................................................... Just basic level Sanskrit, not elaborate "granthika" version ( _if there is a difference_ ) would do. caste: This English term originates from the mid sixteenth century (in the general sense “race, breed”): from Spanish and Portuguese “casta” (“lineage, race, breed”), feminine of “casto” (meaning “pure, unmixed”), from Latin “castus” (meaning “chaste”).
Therefore, the term “caste” should NEVER be used instead of “class”, and especially ought not be conflated with the notion of “varna” (literally, “colour”), an ancient Sanskrit word that refers to the natural-born proclivities of adult males and their occupations.
As clearly explained in Chapter 19 of this “A Final Instruction Sheet for Humanity”, the division of adult males into four social classes (that is, priests, kings, businessmen, and workers) has absolutely naught to do with one’s birth but ENTIRELY dependent upon a man’s innate qualities and the kind of work he is performing (“guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ”, in Sanskrit). Of course, it may seem rather bewildering to consider that a man born to a carpenter, for instance, has the opportunity to break away from his social milieux/circumstances and become a king, for example, but it does happen more often than one may believe. In my own particular case, I was born the son of a working-class man (an aircraft instrument maker, to be precise), yet in my early twenties, became attracted to the monastic life, swiftly becoming a member of the Holy Priesthood, and eventually the current World Teacher Himself. If I had not joined the priesthood, but had decided to devote my adult life to some kind of manual work, such as that of my father, I would still probably have embodied the priestly qualities enumerated in Chapter 20 (since that is my nature) but I could not in all honestly claim to be a priest/guru, because my occupation would have been other than that of a spiritual guide, at the risk of stating the obvious.
So, in summary, it is ABSOLUTELY imperative that, in order to claim that any particular man is a member of any particular social class, that he both exemplifies the pertinent qualities of the particular class and actually works in that class (although, at the risk of sounding sophistic, only members of the working class, by definition, work - priests and monarchs, for instance, have a “vocation”).
Therefore, there is no such thing as a child or a woman belonging to any social class. As a child, I was not a member of the working class, even though my father was a worker, since, as a child, I did not work, nor was I member of the Priesthood, since I had yet to join the monastery/seminary until I was well into adulthood. Similarly, there is most definitely no such thing, for example, as a “Brahmin* woman”, since, excepting extenuating circumstances, women can not and should not perform male roles.

You are right. To teach others not only the teacher but the student also should be (capable of) interest in the learning { which is called Jignyasa in Sanskrit}. So that's why some of the students like Ekalavya for example is rejected. It's because of his impatience. If you are a Telugu person then I am telling you to watch the upanyas of Bhagavad Gita by TTD came at Corona time. So Sanskrit is so complicated in it's grammar or poetic meter it is hard to learn it. so, that's why it can't be a national language and this is another reason for the birth of Indian languages.
Dude, restricting learning to one caste or group does not classify as furthering knowledge. Of course there were many bright Brahmins (geniuses, really) but who knows what all progress would have been made if 85% of the population were also educated. If you leave breeding in the hands of nature, you get strong humans, with big p3nis, strong disease resistance, big muscles, etc. In classical India they began to select specific traits to specific jobs. Then it was observed that training (education) was mostly father to son. Then it was observed that the children of educated people are naturally brighter and can learn things easier. What use is it to teach a farmer the Vedas? He is the best at farming and his son is strong at wielding farm tools. When you look at teachers' children they are, likewise, smarter than factory worker children, even to this day. This is the reasoning that has brought you the Vedas intact in 2024, memorised by generations of genetically selected people over thousands of years. Just the facts.

They are not allowed to marry outside that (not even other casts that calls themselves Brahmins). How did these groups(caste isn't right word)? I think you are talking about Rudra. Shiva is an adjective which means auspicious or mighty. In Rigveda 7.18.7 and Atharvaveda 8.9.22, Shiva is used for the formless supreme Brahman. The adjective Shiva is also used for Rudra in Rigveda 10.92.9
A comprehensive educational system must also inculcate studying S. Indian texts, e.g. Thevaaram, Thiru-vaassagam , Thiru Arutpa, Thirupugazh, Thirumandhiram , the Thirumurrays, Siva-nyaana-bodham, inter alia.

He was a great archer, student and friend. He even donated his kavach kundal knowing it was Indra asking for it! I have the utmost respect for this side of him. Now to come to his troughs, he as a friend never corrected the ways to Duryodhana, he blindly supported him in his endeavours. Even though one can say that Duryodhana helped him but the way he returned back the favour was not just. Even when Duryodhana ne Draupadi ka chir haran krne ko bola us bhari samaj me, Karn ne kch nahi kiya. So he did fail as a warrior who is supposed to protect the helpless. Here Shri Krishna too is binded by Karma and just. He has to ensure as a saarthi and as a bearer of Dharma that the one in wrong should not win over Dharma. Karn even though he had his crests was supporting the one in wrong. So Krishna did what his karma was to win over the wrong

I am a non-brahmin, married to a Brahmin man but me and my parents are being awfully discriminated against by my in-laws, except my husband. My grandfather was not allowed to emter the temple after his return from Europe unless he did ptayaschit inspite of being a Brahmin
Growing up, as a telugu Brahmin woman, we were not allowed to enter the kitchen or puja room im the house during menstruation
The practice of sutak when there is a birth or death in the family
When a baby is born, both mother and child were not touched for 3 days
Maybe there was a scientific reason to keep the infection, which was misinterpreted as discrimination

There is some detailed evidence in ancient texts and puranas to indicate that caste was a horizontal construct prior to the islamic invasions. There were many castes but not in a top down hierarchy. You could belong to any caste and still have the knowledge imparted provided you were fit to receive the knowledge. Then the brutal islamic invasion turned this horizontal caste system into a vertical hierarchy one and this was done I guess to preserve the knowledge system from being erased completely. But over time this hierarchy became rigid and oppressive.

Shudras were allowed entry in the temples. It is the Dalits who are denied entry. The temple entry movement in the south is for the Dalits. Nandanar was a dalit. Not a Shudra. Untouchables are not part of Shudra community. The Dalits were not part of the four Varna system. Brahmins alone were not responsible for untouchability. The ruling class like Cholas were not Brahmins and the system of untouchability could not have existed without their agreement. This is not to say that Brahmins were not complicit, but untouchability could not have existed without widespread support from the society.

Really loved the documentery. Pranamam sir🙏. Society takes all different turns when we move away from Dharma. I also like to bring in one perceptive which i heard from an author why shudras were kept at a distance. Each varna people had certain practices and eating habits based on that. They held different occupation. One of the occupational hazard of priestly class was low immunity as thier job was in temple and teaching, but people learnt that shudras who did it all kind of mineal job had greater immunity passed on diseases in other sections of the community who were not exposed to those pathogens, died often for this reason and they had to keep distance. It was an intelligent system based on the situations of their time. But at one point of time it became rigid. The planning of villages were also like that back then, priest in centre, then trading community then others who did cleaning work, etc. You know why indigenous people died in Americas and other places when Europeans came in. So it does make sense to not spead diseases around. But the system got rigid later on with mistreatment of others which is not acceptable.
