  • What a fun day chasing ‪@TerryB‬ around his home turf in Brooklyn, New York. We zipped in and out of the secret dirt paths of Prospect Park a dozen times. Terry had this whole route memorized, but it was a maze to me.

6:17 - Dude, it's like a hidden entrance to the singletrack! Harry Potter-like! That's so cool.
7:15 - And then it just pops right out onto a wall! This is wicked. Unlike anything I've ever seen before. Now I must get to New York to find this trail!
9:59 - Man, no matter where you go there's water! And in this case, don't turn right!
Boy that trail was something! It really is a gem inside the city. A little tech, and little flow, and even some urban MTB in there. I've got to keep this in mind. New York isnt' exactly right up the road from Florida, but at least I'm on the correct side of the country! haha!
Stay upright and keep the rubber side down!

I love the different approach for NY! Would be cool to focus on some of the lesser known stuff in some of the better known MTB states. For example, everyone knows about Pisgah and Dupont here in NC but would be neat to see videos from trail systems in Charlotte or elsewhere. Would love to see you ride US National Whitewater Center! I've often see them showing your videos in their restaurant.

I use to ride with the multi cultural mtb team called Team Brooklyn. We had a good loop through there but the last time I went they had put up spikes on our single track. Good fun but you'd have to do five laps to make it worth while. Wish we had strava back in the 80's. We did a good amount of sharp steep up hills for fun. Long live the nude crit at Mt Snow nationals. LOL

@@MrHunterseeker I believe I have seen comments like these from you in these videos before, but my apologies if that's not true. I would encourage you to watch this video of a speech given by Jeffrey Robinson of the ACLU. ua-cam.com/video/55ehKPUm7dc/v-deo.html
There are a lot of problems with the argument that the monuments are meant to honor fallen ancestors. Mr. Robinson goes into more detail in his video, but most problematically is the timing of when these monuments were erected (post reconstruction, at a time when black americans were being re-disenfranchised and increasingly massacred) and for who they are meant to honor (pick an example... but people like Jefferson Davis or Robert E. Lee, as fomenters of succession and therefore of treason against the United States of America, emphatically do not deserve to be memorialized, for whatever reason. Likewise, the legacies of figures like Nathan Bedford Forrest or Edmund Pettus are inextricable from the causes of white supremacy, violence, and oppression. It goes without saying to any moral person that their continued memorialization and glorification via public monuments is unacceptable.)
Lastly I would point out that your comment about conscription is disingenuous and misleading. Misleading because something like 2-6% of the Union army was conscripted, and maybe double that for the Confederates, whose attempts at conscription were wildly unpopular and nearly unenforceable. On top of that, there was literally an act that exempted conscription for slave owners called the "Twenty Negro Law" for fear of slave rebellions due to white enslavers being absent for [a] war [to protect the institution of slavery]. I believe your comment is disingenuous because it applies only to the civil war -- no one is suggesting tearing down monuments of soldiers from wars where conscription was actually significant, such as WWII.
The thing is, the "little snide comments" you're hearing encapsulate this entire argument on an intuitive level to people who consider history carefully. I agree that ignorance is at the heart of many of the problems gripping our country right now, but not the ignorance of those advocating a historical reckoning.
This video was particularly awesome, Brian! It's amazing to see the spaces and pathways crisscrossing just out of sight of our everyday world. Cheers!

NYC is also fairly unique in that most of the time you're riding from home to the trail as it is faster than driving in NYC. So there are these tucked away trails all over the city. The nearest proper mountain trails to NYC are about 2 hours away in the Catskills, which could be a rare trip if you're like many people in NYC and don't own a car.

Did he take you out to Central Park? Supposed to be some dope trails up there too, especially on the northern end.

4:22 In NYC the street cleaning hasn't been in effect since COVID and lockdown started back in April or so. Which is why everyone's parking and not moving during those street cleaning hours! I believe they're only now going back into effect this week.
edit: nvm you figured it out.

Awesome video. Both grandparents on my father’s side went through Ellis Island in 1906 and 1908 so I can totally relate. Love the urban MTB experience too! Makes me think: I know you have California covered, but from experience there are some similar short tracks in Golden Gate Park. Perhaps as a finale to your 50 state shred why don’t you roll that? 😎🚵‍♂️🤙🤟
